On another note, I remember when I used to have a chaos army with a unit 20 warriors and 30 Beastmen. (I forget which edition that was) I'd love to be able to recreate that army as much for nostalgia as anything else.

If you're not opposed to Warhammer Forge, the Tamurkhan book has what you're looking for.

Allies would be nice.

I think the only thing I would use in my dwarf army is a big ass unit of free company, 50+ with a 5+ Grugni rune near buy to make it a huge unmovable block.

Banished, from my own homeland. And now you dare enter my realm?... you are not prepared.

nowhere: north of colorado, south of motana, west of nebraska, east of utah.

So, what's to keep a person (in a friendly private game, not one of those tournament deals) from using the allies rules for a single army that they control? only difference being the amount of players on each side. all other rules remain the same (no lizardmen siding with chaos and garbage like that).

Absolutely nothing. If you and your mates wanna do it, have a bang up time. GW's not Big Brother, they're not watching your every move.

Hell, as White Dwarf shows, the studio blokes barely know their own rules.
