I had a huge number of what would be described as risky encounters during my youth yet as I always used protection I have never once caught an STI (and I have even had a condom split at least 5 times). If you are careful it is unlikely that you will catch an STI.

What this does is that it exposes the bugs and they inherently can develop resistent strains.
It takes 24-48 hours for N.gonorrhoeae to grow via conventional methods and a further 24-48 hours to get a confirmed ID and sensitivity pattern. Thats broadly the same as other pathogenic bacteria but there are methods which will given an ID in a much shorter timeframe
Doctors irresponsibly perscribing antimicrobials is a leading cause of drug resistance and any doctor who does give you a broad spectrum antimicrobial without having lab results in most cuircumstances is effectively negligent.
N.gonorrhoeae is usually susceptable to spectinomycin but it isn't licensed in the US so there options left for the rest of the world

Yes they do, but in only in very small numbers. Individuals can choose to be asexual (true asexuals lack a sexual appetite but they account for about 1% of the population), but it has to be a personal choice. Even then it seems that quite a few of them fall off the wagon.

Yes, but thats not a guarantee ( ), but also people who chose to be celibate for whatever reason, although I suspect that quite a few of them are simply asexual. I know a couple of people who have tried to be celibate and neither managed it past a year.
Basically promoting absintence as a realistic way to prevent STIs is a terrible idea as it simply doesn't work for the majortiy of the population.

Let's put it this way, abstinence works, but human nature kicks in and overrides abstinence most times assuring that STD's will always be with us and growing harder to treat, perhaps getting to the point where drugs are useless.

This has been a long time coming. As with any untreatable disease, you can take measures to prevent infection. Some of these include not having casual sex. If you have sex with people that you've gotten to know AND use protection, you're much less likely to contract anything nasty.

They aren't growing harder to treat any more than other bacterial infections. If you want something to be worried about I would pick TB which is becoming worryingly resistant and unlike gonorrhea is likely to actually kill you.
In fact STIs as a whole are becoming easier to treat as resistance is fairly uncommon and as screening (and vaccination) becomes more widespread there is less chance of transmission. The only STI that people need to truly fear is HIV and its only a matter of time before that is preventable/curable as well.

And I've experienced first hand what you're saying about TB- a student of mine was diagnosed with a nasty strain of it a couple of years ago and we all had to be tested. Slightly un-nerving, because you usually don't hear of it outside of the third world these days.

I think you need to actually look at the world for how it really is and not how you really, really, really wish it was. Until you try that out the policies you advocate won't amount to much (as advocating "responsibility" historically hasn't).

I don't care if the "policies" work or not because regardless humanity will continue to exist. Whether or not it moves forward as species is debatable, as is whether or not we're better than we were when our ancestors were living in caves (and I don't think we are).
Continuing to make excuses for people being stupid is unacceptable. Claiming it is 'reality' is both idiotic and especially hypocritical. Rape is reality. War is reality. Suffering is reality. Do you really want to accept all of that and attempt to do nothing about? Oh wait, the typical person does (at least I hope so) and bleeding heart liberals really claim to do...so what gives? Is this pick and choose what parts of 'base needs' we like and dislike?
Curing an illness is great, preventing it is better. I don't think you have the capacity to comprehend that in the slightest though, as you're a typical egotistical prick who talks down to everyone and quits any argument you're losing in half a heartbeat.

I love this gak. You openly claim people have no self control over their sexual urges and then expect them to make competent decisions in politics that will affect the lives of others. These gits can't even control their own lives or desires. Are you daft or just gaming?
If the average person is nothing more than a dumb beast who can't control their urges why the hell should they have the same say in government as someone who can?

I still want to know why this idiotic population that can't keep a lid on their overpowering sexual urges has the right to vote. I'm surprised they have time to do anything other than clawing at each other voraciously in heat.
All you do is keep making excuses for human actions. If you can excuse sexual irresponsibility you can excuse many other 'minor' trespasses as well simply because people don't have the self control to avoid doing something they shouldn't. Then you expect someone else to foot the bill because you have the clap.

I am not making excuses for anyone, I am simply acknowledging reality. You should also be asking why the idiotic population who can't restrain the urge to overeat is allowed to vote. It is simply human nature which is an extremely powerful force which can't be magiced away by wishful thinking.

The thing that is more than a tad worrisome, at least according to this article, is there seems to be almost half again as many unreported cases.
An ER attendant told me of a man that was brought in for a knife wound that was found to have a plastic bag wrapped around his junk to catch the discharge caused by an STD.
Another person on a construction site I worked at told my friends and myself that something called Dr. Tischner's ointment was just the thing to put on after sex to prevent STDs.
I wonder how many other home remedies there are out there

Not sure if serious.... You did read the article right? Because it explains pretty clearly that this isnt being done, and why its so difficult (coming up with a new, effective, cost-efficient drug is a lot harder than you think).

Not sure if serious.... You did read the article right? Because it explains pretty clearly that this isnt being done, and why its so difficult (coming up with a new, effective, cost-efficient drug is a lot harder than you think). Not sure if you did, either. Researchers are actively looking for adequate treatment options for this highly contagious disease, according to Bolan. “There is one promising treatment in the pipeline,” she says, adding that researchers are also looking at new combinations of existing drugs.

They are now as a direct result of this issue. The way you made your first statement made it sound like they have been doing so for ages, this isnt the case. If i read it the wrong way, ill hold my hands up, was just looking to enlighten if not....but not in exaclty the most polite way, sorry :*( O, and 'one promising treatment' means nothing. To develope a new drug, millions of analogues are tried, the fact that one of them has gotten to a certain stage of testing means nothing at all. Even when it gets to human testing theres no certainty in whether or not the drug will be produced. EDIT: spelling, minor alterations to text

This isn't a very good policy, long term however. There are only so many drugs we can develop, and new drugs may have more harmful side effects or be less effective than the original. The bacteria can still develop resistance to any new drug if the root cause (over prescription of antibiotics and people not finishing out antibiotic courses) is not tackled.
Making the drugs free is one way to encourage this, though obviously it has the downside of encouraging risky behaviour because people can get it "sorted out" for no cost. It's a tricky one. At the end of the day the drive to reproduce is pretty fundamental to humanity, and despising people for giving in to it is pretty pointless.
But whatever gets you through the day.
