I like it though. I only see it becoming annoying in big quote pyramids, yet they were already annoying anyway so it doesn't really change them.

I like it. It's a good feature IMHO.

I admit to not finding it necessary, but I can understand why lots of people wanted it and will like it - as people use Avatars over usernames much of the time.

I think I would've liked a border round the picture or a way to make them less pixelated, but I think it's a really good feature and further helps show how user friendly Dakka is. Great work as ever Lego!

And yes, I did deliberately quote you.

Actually thought it was just a link to the user profile, that's even better then. That poor little page icon at the top left of each post though. Not everyone knows what it's for and no even less will use it. Sad days ahead for ol' pagey.

I'll be tidying it up in the future, I just wanted to see what sort of response it would get, how many errors would come as a result of it, and if it would be used happily by people. Didnt want to spend a huge amount of time on some beautiful quote header if it is something that will get removed. Initial response and usage has been very positive though, so looks good for the long term so far.

I love it lego! Though i did notice you can change the pictures.... Not sure how you would prevent that though.

As one of the people who identifies via avatar, i find it very useful.

I like it. It's actually more elegant than the old system.

I also quite often indentify people via avatar.... SO STOP CHANGING YOUR PROFILE PICS, GUYS! lol

anyway, a nice update lego! Tho some pics (for which 200x200 is already too small) will just appear as a blob of color....

I supported the suggestion of this feature a little while back so it's cool to see it implemented.

The quote pics have either got an error or you've been screwing them up, and I believe it's the former.

I don't think it matters that you can change them. It also means you can remove 'em if you don't like them and no-one would change it like that anyway; just look at the previous quoting system - no-one messed about with names...

What's the logic behind the letters and numbers? And if we're trying to quote some old locked thread (e.g. in our sigs) how do we find out the correct letters and numbers to use?

Other than that, could I just point out to people who don't like it that they can simply delete the coding after the name?

First is the username, next is the thread ID, next is the specific post ID, finally is the avatar filename. It is really meant to be automated - If you are quoting an old thread, you might want to just link to the old thread above the quote for simplicity.

+1 to the well done Lego posts too. Making Dakka even more awesome one update at a time.

Yup bug noted and working on a fix. If you have nested quotes featuring a user who has no avatar, the bug will happen.

I guess I am among one of the few who don't like it. Hopefully I will get used to it, just distracts far too much from the actual text though, but the linkage to the quote is very handy, especially in sigs!

Awesome work Lego. Can see this being quite useful as i am one of those people who id's people/posts by avatars.

For those people who don't like/want it would it be at all possible (without of course making more work for you) to have a button that turns this feature off? Say something in your edit profile page.

Also i think i found a bug. Not sure if its the same one as found eariler, but if you multi quote it becomes all jumbled up. I was going do what Lord of Timbraxia did and quote someone and agree. I was going to quote a whole bunch of people who said they liked it (13 to be exact.) and now its all one massive quote where almost all the words are linkable. Could be a problem with multiquotes.

Might I point out that when you get an animated avatar in the quote e.g. that of meangreenstompa, it looks rather strange.... Perhaps if you made it so it was simply the first slide in the animation?

However, it's unobtrusive and doesn't suck.
