What would be a good load out for my grand master in a 1000 point or 1500 point game?

I run him sword and psychotroke and rad grenades. At this game points total, I might suggest just using a brother captain, they are the same minus the grand strategy. At this total IMO its not needed. Anytime I think of running a GM I just end up running Draigo.

Why would you drop grand strategy when it only costs 25 points? It's great, don't use a brother captain. Pay the 25 extra and use grand strategy, it's probably one of the best costed things in the book.
I'd put in Psychotroke grenades, otherwise go with whatever will help an attached squad more. He's good enough alone, so falchions, sword, halberd, etc are all valid choices. IIRC he has an Iron halo, so the Sword is good to keep him alive.
Servo skulls are good too, but are cheaper with Techmarines, so take them there if you have a techie. Ranged weapons, Incinerators are always a good choice, everything else costs painful amounts of points. (45 for a Psycannon? Sure, it's a great weapon, but at 45 points You can buy the full four for a Purifier squad.)
Don't think I've missed anything important.
TL;DR; Grandma trumps Uncle Captain every time, always tike GM over BC. Psychotrokes Rads Most CC weapons stave and hammer are meh IMO, maybe a hammer would work, but I'm not sold for a stave on him. Servo skulls are cool too.

His Nemesis weapons are a waste (the hammer wastes his I, where as the halberd sort of redundant) and if i remember without looking the warding stave is overprised too. As for his guns, the flamer while cheap is a waste of his BS, and the pyscannon again isnt worth 45 points in an army where points are a premium.
As has been stated, take the GM, leave him with sword and stormbolter and give him the grenades, is really the only equipment worth giving him (even the servos can be gotten cheaper and easier from other sources)

Halberds are worth having to strike at I7 in challenges against other ICs though. Agree on the rest, although the Incinerator is just fine; 2 BS6 Storm Bolter shots aren't that impressive anyway.

I've been running my GW with an Incinerator for about a year now. I can't remember ever actually using it. I'm sure it will come in handy one day, but because the GW usually isn't in the front rank (to avoid getting sniped by lascannons and such) it's very situational. Honestly, the stormbolter would have been better.
I7 is great in a challenge, but against another 2+ save it's pretty much pointless. And with a sword, the GM is rocking a 2+, 3++ save which has gotten mine out of trouble more than once.
Psychotroke and Rad grenades have never failed to be awesome, however.

Grandmasters and Captains require different loadouts for their NFW and gun.
Brother Captains are expensive, but not so expensive that they need the protection.of a stave or sword. Your other options are Halberd, Hammer and Falchions. Staves are just too expensive to justify, especially now it doesn't protect vs Perils in CC.
Falchions suck as all the do is make you have 4 attacks standard, while really is ok but not too good considering their cost.
Hammers suck for both guys as they don't bring anything over a Termy or Paladin with one and it wastes their high Int.
Halberds are the way to go for captains as they will most likely be in challenges and striking before most thing means he will survive and force weapon them.
As for guns, any is good for Captains as he hits on 2+. I would recommend the Incinerator or Stormbolter. The price of a rhino is hard to justify for a Psycannon, especially as for the the same price you could add, like I said, a Rhino, or a Termy, or put 2 Psycannons on a squad of Paladins
As far as Grand masters go, they're going to be incredibly expensive at near 200 bare bones. Go for the sword. While the Captain can get by on a Halberd, Grand Masters need all the protection the can get, especially as now 2+ saves become the chuck norris of armour, he will fall victim to many, many AP 2/1 shots and attacks and if you can increase his survivability by a small amount for free, its worth it.
With having BS 6, you better not take that Incinerator. A guy who is equal to the best sniper in C:SM and your giving him a flamer? Again, the cost of a Psilibcer is hard to justify, and having a Psycannon equal to a Razorback (or a Psyback if MC) is expensive, but practically guarenteeing 4 Str 7 rending shots with Prescion shot is hard to ignore.
In both cases master crafting is optional and up to you and any add ons such as Orb relays, grenades and such is up to you and your playstyle.

I always take a Psycannon and Halberd + Psych and Rad grenades. Occasionally Blind grenades too.
A BS6 psycannon is worth every one of those points. it uses his BS6 to the fullest. Not to mention its a relentless psycannon that can pick out the enemy on 6s.

Nah, don't go overboard with equipment. The incinerator should suffice and maybe a few servo skulls just in case you have Termies or Pallies who could then deep strike in the enemy back field.

Actually, that's a good catch and one I'd forgotten about! Template weapons can overwatch, they do D3 hits per template. I'd never leave home without the grenades. They're a 30 point game-changer right there.

When I don't run Draigo, I run my Grand Master simple; Rad and Psychotroke, and that's it. With Sword he has a 3++ in combat, already strikes at I5, so before most things, making the Halberd unnecessary. Incinerator is an option though since it is only 5pts.

If you've got a few points left over at the end of your list, maybe. But I haven't ever found myself in the middle of a battle thinking "Gee, I wish I had taken blind grenades!"

You really pay for psybolt on a single model? What points range do you pay at? Personally i find it hard to justify it on anything but a 10man squad, does it really earn its points with 1 model?
