Would this be suitable as a stand alone game to bring to board game nights if you went with the the Striker Level and maybe add the additional teams

How easy to learn are the rules and are the models easy to put together? Don't have nearly as much painting time as I used to. How long do games take to play? I hear there are more then 2 player variation?

My board games group likes to play Dominion, Eclipse, Resident Evil Card Building Game, Settlers of Catan, Super Dungeon Explore, Thunderstone, Zombicide.

Looking for more good games. I already ordered Sedition Wars.

Don't know how much practice anyone has actually playing the game - but in general, the sports games are pretty easy to pick up and quick enough to game for organized game nights.

The Striker level will get you everything you need to play the game, plus 4 teams to choose from and a few additional bits here and there.

Figures are generally easy enough to assemble as needed - most the time you can sit down and do them up while doing something else like watching a movie as long as you are not going to fret too much about things like the odd mold line. Those can take a little more attention to clean up, but generally not too much.

Painting is only an issue if you want it to be. I know a lot of people in a similar boat as you regarding time - so as opposed to worrying about painting them all at once, they choose a color they want each "team" to be. Once the figures are assembled, they give all the team a quick coat of spray paint of the chosen color and then mark them as might be needed for the game in question. This allows them to play well enough soon. When they have time later on - they may paint up one or two in a more detailed color scheme.

Game play is said to be about 1 hour - though the first few games will likely take more than that as people figure out the rules and as they get comfortable with them...things will speed up. Comparable to most other games within the genre.

Not sure about multiple players per side. Normally these sort of games are not written that way from the start, but most people can sort of figure out how to include larger groups without too much effort in tweaking the rules. Quite often, multiplayer rules are added...though it generally has the feel of a patch as opposed to flowing naturally.

Anywho - should help you some. Fantasy Sports games (sci-fi or otherwise) can be a good bit of fun...but they are not for everyone. The video on the KS page may help you get a better feel for the game, though your own preferences and group will be the biggest factor in making the choice.

A second board is only $25. Add in $8 for a second deck of cards and I think you have everything you need to play two games at once. (Not sure if you get one or two sets of counters at Striker)

You get 2 sets of counters, one is the cardboard ones that will come in the regular retail box, the second is a KS exclusive green acrylic set

Amazing - the second Season 3 Team is now in!

You’ve now funded the Nameless, allowing us to sculpt a new team – and lots of tentacles. 2 Players have now been included in Striker! and the team is now available as a Buy One Get One Free along with the Asterians, Female Corporation, Judwan, Robots and Z’zor – get in!

Whilst we get busy updating that front page, why don't you take a look at this…

$525,000 - DreadBall Mech

Coupling speed and strength with mechanical precision and a state of the art DreadBall glove, these hulking Mechs are re-purposed military machines, kitted out for the battlefield (minus the big gun of course!)

The DreadBall Mech is the first of the multi-hex miniatures for DreadBall and the idea is that they are can be used across multiple teams, they don’t belong to any one race.

If we hit this goal, we will be able to produce the DreadBall Mech. As promised at the $500,000 goal, you will all get a free multi-hex miniature, and you’ll get to choose from the list that gets funded and add it to a pledge of Striker! and up! The DreadBall Mech is the first to go on that list meaning by default, if we don't fund any others, you'll all get one of these for free!

Of course, variety is the spice of life so we’re going to be needing more on that list so you’ve got lots to choose from...

Hmm - gribbly!

Have at it guys! >

I've been following this one for a while and finally sprung for Striker a few days ago after they started talking about multiplayer variants. I just sat down with Adobe Illustrator and started laying out a central hex that might connect with the other pieces described.

This thing is huge! From flat side to flat side, it's 16 hexes across. The half courts, from peak to the point where they attach to the mid-court are only 11 hexes. So, the field would increase in size, length-wise, from a max of 23 hexes to a max of 37. I guess that'd make it assemble to a circle of just under a meter diameter.

New pic teasing stretch goals up to $600k.

Looks like:

$530k - Prone Marauder and Human counters
$545k - Tentacle Monster
$550k - Blank, possibly another team?
$565k - Furry Monster
$580k - MVP/Coach of some sort
$585k - Blank, possibly another team?
$600k - MVP/Coach of some sort

9 stretch goals within the space of $100k of funding, that's a nice amount of stuff.

Shouldn't be too difficult to hit those, hopefully they have more in line for the ones going from $600K to maybe $850K or so.

Update #69 · Sep. 28, 2012 · 7 comments

WOW - That stretch goal didn’t last long! The DreadBall Mech is now locked in!

The DreadBall Mech makes it onto the list of “Multi-Hex Miniatures” that you can add to your Striker! package for free - simply let us know which you would like in the survey that we send out once the Kickstarter has finished. Remember you can pick one per Striker! so choose wisely!

It will also shortly be available on the main page as an extra that you can add to your pledge for $12.

That’s two down so far today, so to celebrate, here’s two more to tackle…

$530,000 – Season 1 Prone Markers

“He’s down Jake, he’s down!”

“You’re not wrong Jim, that slam from Nazgud must have really hurt!”

“Oh, there’s blood Jake, that’s definitely blood!”

“No time for that Jim, Strike for the Smackers! Four points in the bag.”

With this goal hit we’ll be able to fund prone markers for the Corporation and Marauders – and include one of each in Keeper and up!

Of course, we need more big gribblies too…

$545,000 – Nameless Spawn

Impossibly old, Nameless Spawns are simply hulking masses of scales and tentacles that are well adapted to play DreadBall, so much so that those cunning (and some what brave) mercenaries that are able to capture one have made a small fortune by selling them on to a DreadBall team. On the pitch, the Spawn is able to catch the ball in its webbed hand and can entangle its victims with its mass of tentacles - there is a 66% percent chance of death by suffocation when a Nameless Spawn is on the pitch.

If we hit this goal, we will be able to fund the Nameless Spawn – the second of our Multi-hex beasties! You will be able to pick this beastie as the one you want free with Striker! and we'll make it available in the extras for just $12 as well! Multi-hex miniatures are not team specific and will be able to play for multiple races.

There you are guys - let's see if we can get this Beastie in!

Now that's what I call an update

and the big beasts are really cheap (probably since we've not seen exactly how big they are) at $12 each

From memory a bit smaller than the FF armour from warpath.

Yes I saw that quote as well

so I checked the Mantic site, but the Iron Ancestor doesn't have a size listed

Well I asked, not expecting a response, but they came back to me straight away

the Dreadball Mech, Nameless giant ets should be 5-6 cm tall (50-60mm so about double the height of a standard mini)

so a real bargin at $12

I'd expect the Multihex figures to take up at least 3 hex spots on the board. That gives stability, room for other pieces and it's even on all 3 sides. Next size with similar properties to that though is a 7 hex(or a 7 hex with 3 hexes cut out for a player who's attempting to 'run' under the big beasty, but that creates a stability issue).

And we have the prone figures

We're now after Big Nameless (see above) and also have a teaser for the next big one

Just also to let you know that if you've got your eyes on the Nameless Spawn as your freebie multi-hex beastie, the DreadBall Mech is now available to add to your pledge for just $12 on the front page!

Next-up:

Well, the Multihexers aren't affiliated to any one team(Meaning you could have a mech helping the Z'zor or, god forbid, Nameless Spawn working with the Femcorp, etc). I'm guessing that this is a King Kong reference(had a feeling ever since the silhouette), and unless we have a team of genetic reprobates waiting in the wings, I think he's probably just a 'here you go' character at the moment

Also: I originally spelled "Reprobates" as "ReproBATS". Gives that sentence another feel entirely, doesn't it?

Alpha Simians are large beasts from the jungle worlds of Inera, competitive aliens that enjoy the thrill that comes from a 200mph weapons-grade titanium being flung around a small enclosed arena. Alpha Simians are not the dumb brutes that they are often made out to be – the most famous among them is Toutanka, a maverick Corporation owner and star DreadBall player affectionately dumbed “Hank” – though there are those, like in every society, that simply prefer to keep things primitive and batter the opposition…

Striker upgrade pack is being shown off... I know scipio and a lot of other completionists on here are going to love this:

So, +$125 added to a Striker pledge gets you 16-player teams for the first 8 teams, so that a team can be maxed out and all possible combinations of player type can be taken.

That kickstarter page is a fething mess at this point, particularly with the overwhelming number of extras, all in a half mile long thin strip taking up only about 1/2 of my monitor's real estate.

They should just list everything in text without all of the pictures and put that down at the bottom.

Good pics or none at all please! I am buying dozens of sight unseen figures based upon the current string of existing sculpts actually looking good. Don't show it unless it is gonna look amazing!

I'm assuming that both that and the Number 88 green are heavily WIP at the moment, which is why they haven't been posted on the KS page.

There's too many visible tooling marks on the sculpts for them to be the finished greens.

They made a good call, then. My instintictive reaction to that picture was 'Oh, gosh, have I just thrown my money at a pile of doggy doo?' *

If Jadagate taught us anything it is that companies need to be very careful posting their greens anywhere. And if they do post them then they had better have very tough skins.

We all understand that this is a WiP but I see nothing positive in posting the model in that state. Other than perhaps the chance to implore the artist to chance the pose to something that would suit a hardcore professional sportswoman rather than a flower girl.

Edit: They need to decide now if they are going to cap the numbers of Nameless..giant...Nameless things.....because that concept is far cooler than the mech or ape.

*I should refer you to my earlier comments in this thread in which I have been very impressed with the models Mantic are putting into this project.
