Hi, guys. I've bought myself a Stormtalon. For the minute I don't play, I'm a complete n00b but I've got the rulebook so I'm hoping to start as the Blood Angels Flesh Tearer chapter.

I'm just wondering with this unit how vulnerable/strong are they? I think none of my opponents have other aircraft, does that give me air superiority? Or can I still be taken down?

Originally I wanted a landspeeder and that would help me destroy vehicles if I used a multimelta onboard. Is the Stormtalon a better choice?

Blood Angels can't take Stormtalons, although if you wanted one I suppose you could ally with Space Marines to get one. They're decent air support units, I'd take typhoon missiles personally for some good range on it.

Just go Codex SM; they're a lot more TaC in 6th.

And Stormtalon is a whole different beast than the landspeeder. Much more "Hit and run" than "Attack Vehicle"

oh, what? The dude in the GW store was like "I've been playing Blood Angels for years" went on to say that he's had a storm talon gunship as an escort for his stormraven, and that it would be a better choice than a storm raven.

I can't find anywhere in WD about it being standard chapters only...? Unless I'm being blind. I've found Blood Angels decals in the box, too

Due to the new allies rules you can mix(min max) all maner of army/race combinations into an army list if you choose.

So while Blood Angels cant take the storm talon in a straight BA list you could add some vanilla marines into your force to get it in yor BA list if you really wanted to.

Personally I think if your planning to use mixed-codex marine armies via allies that your better off running vanilla marines as your base list and using Blood Angels as the allies.

This will allow you to boost your list in key areas (assault mainly) as desired.

Stormtalon better than a Stormraven? Sorta proves the theory of the general population; don't listen to anything someone from a GW store says.

That being said, I think Stormtalons are savage. They can pump out a lot of firepower for 155pts with AC and TML, and is good against all targets. Their only real downside I see is the AV11 2HP thing.

I am using 3 in my White Scars army with allied IG; Escort makes your reserve less staggered and you use your allied Astropath to bring them on early with your Bikes. Use your OoTF to keep enemy flyers off for a bit while your Talons do some damage, then fly off ~turn 4 before the enemy flyers come on and then bring them back in he take them out.

Well unless you play your Flesh Tearers using C:SM; I'm sure nobody would mind.

Never trust a GW rep on what you can and can't have in your army. They are salesmen, they will do what it takes to get you to buy something.

When the Stormraven model first came out they would try and sell it to all Marine players no matter the flavor. GW even posted pics of Stormravens painted in UM, BT, and other chapter colors on their website the big d-bags. They knew full well that only GKs and BAs would ever have it.

That's what really annoyed me, I'd never sell someone a model they didn't need. You're likely to alienate your customer base, especially as online stores are offering 10% or more off

As far as GW blackshirt knows and cares, he'll let you play it with any Marine army in the shop. Not even caring or considering that there are other places to play 40k that will NOT let you use a vehicle accross codices.

Of course the GW employee is under tight quota requirements. if he doesn't move enough product he might lose his job.

Same, I'm probably never going to step foot in my semi-local store again. I've got a GW stockist about 15 minutes walk from mine, so I'm just gonna get all my stuff from there even if it means waiting a few weeks for an order to arrive

Why would a redshirt tell you to buy a Stormtalon when you could get a Stormraven for your army? Stormravens are like $20-30 more...

I know, that was the weird thing. He even mentioned the Stormraven, that I could use the Stormtalon as an escort for it. At the time it sounded legit, no-one at my local gaming store has a flyer (I don't think) and I'm totally brand new with playing the game, so I liked the idea of having aerial advantage over them.
