Nurgle Chosen Marine on a Palanquin

Thought I would start a thread specifically for modeling and conversion of the new starter box figures to get people thinking about conversions before the box arrives.

My thoughts:

Chaos Lord Kranon
Reverse the sword so that it it points up instead of down. Should make him considerably more dynamic. Will need to Nurgleize hism a bit as well

Chosen LC
Arm pose needs to change

Hellbrute
Mine will be Nurgle, so there will be greenstuffing and adding more pestilent detail on the back.

What will YOU do to personalize you figs?

,,, and post pic when you get them done!

Keep in mind that changing some of these things will be a little difficult based on how the models are put together.

For the Lord, a jewelers saw will make it easy cut the hand right out of the sword making it easy to reverse, although I hope the rear detail on the sword is as good as the front detail.

Thanks for posting the pics. BTW those GW website pics are clickable to get larger versions.

Dude I can't believe they sold out so fast. I don't keep up on the market as much as most people, so I only heard about the box set today and they are already all gone. :( Between the amount of iconography and the way the figures are assembled I think conversions will be difficult for most of them. They look killer as-is tho.

Dont worry, the reverse side of that sword is the same as the front
It can be seen on the 360 degree piccy on the GW site.

However, keep in mind all these models are snap fit, so posing and re-posing may have issues until we can see how they go together.

Making a regular dreadnought into a running pose takes about 30 mins.
Making the AoBR one run though, well, took me 4 hours and a ton of spare parts and plasticard (not to mention GS)

About the easiest re-posing i can see are the cultists.
Really easy to remove an arm at the elbow/shoulder/wrist and turn it slightly.
Can then simply GS it, or if your not confident and re-building muscle, make a GS rag or bandage over it.

Same with swapping heads on them if they are part of the body.

360 degree images are the best things since the bacon sandwich!
Used to buy quite a few models for the looks of them to paint, then realised the front looks fine, but the rest looks like rubbish
Gone of those days.

Wait a minute, the 360 view of the Chaos Lord does not show the back of the sword...

Spin him round so his left backpack skull is facing just off to your left.
You can see from a side and near on back view that the other side of the sword does have full detail.

Thats one of the reasons I love GW kits they put detail even on the places you wouldnt see it. I picked up some grot crew from FW and theres one leaning on a shell, the shell bottom even had detail even though it will be stuck to a base lol.

I wouldnt mind seeing the tactical squad sprew as I wish to see how easy it will be to remove the dark angle symbols and use them in my SW army,

Bikes are going to be used in my PDF list as Arbite Rough Riders (think Dredd with the golden wings on the front of the bikes)

DA chapter symbols are easy enough to cover with SW.
Simply add fur
But i think they will try and keep them along the same lines as AoBR marines, so:

Body; minus hands.
Hands and gun.
Back pack.
Base.

Seems like the run of the mill way that GW make all of the power armoured snap fits.

The chosen however, they look like a bit of a pain since one even has the collar section of his armour, top of his head and gun all as a single part -_-

Claw guy wont be too bad for re-posing, if you have access to guitar wire as the tubes will need to be cut to change his hands about :(
Shoulders have too much detail connecting to the body, so they will have to stay.
So, without GS you can spin the arms at the elbow.
With GS you can cut away above that up to the pad and re-make it.

All the DA are going chaos for me. I'm going to pick up a box of warriors of chaos for the kitbash potential, even if it needs some cut and GS. The libby is a natural sourcerer conversion. He looks like a little filing and a chaosy paintjob would do nicely. The Chaplain might be harder, I'm thinking of using a spare warding staff from the GK box as a swap for the crozius and some reposing. The captain is going to be a complete pain but should be doable with some clever modelling.

I'm going to wait to see what level of customization the Codex gives me but..... ideally I want two box sets, first is as is the red look that GW has done is very khorney and i love how they did the metallics... the 2nd one however..

Pure Nurgle

The Chaos Lord
Will have tubes running off his back near the cloak between the spinal collumn thats flowing down his cape, i like the idea of popping the sword upright instead of down, covering it with some slimy glossy looking greenstuffed pestilience. Prehaps swap the helmet for the Chosen marine with has the head, as I found Nurgle models more theatening when you can see their rottening faces, as well as most champions/HQ's look more menacing to see their face as most of your army are "Faceless" warriors with helmets anyhow. If its a nurgle lord as well, I'll hack off the plasma pistol and put on a boltgun w/ a bayonette blade on it like my Death Guard use, I still like playing up the "True Grit " feel where Chaos use boltguns like pistols cause their just that badass.

Chosen
Mostly just greenstuffing between the details, maybe a scythe added on one of them, but making the horn like the 1 marine has would give it more of a Nurgly feel, maybe the bits from the new plastic plague bearer kit would help.. definately put some nurglings on their bases or maybe work one into a pauldron.. But I wont destroy a good model if its too beautiful to maim.

Hellbrute!!!
Nurgl-fied... I made a dreadnaught awhile ago that I sculpted a full mouth, and rows of teeth, a tongue. It has been my favorite ever since.. and I think I'd like to put a big mouth on the hellbrute as well! I saw my dreadnaughts more like posessed machines than marines inside that went insane.. especially for nurgle. Hopefully the new codex will let you make a nurgle-naught or a hellbrute attuned to nurgle and we can really fly with it. Making conversions is a lot funner when what your doing reflects wargear

As for the cultists.. I'm not sure. Kitbash them with something to make them look more menacing, the guy GW had with the redhair and half khorne mask has to go though, i hate him.

Hellbrute parts breakdown:
http://www.games-workshop.com/gws/wnt/blog.jsp?pid=3700078-gws

Head replacement is easy. Even better, the horned collar is a separate piece, making mods much easier and allowing easy access to the shoulder armor for mods.

Reposing the legs looks a little tougher, but doable. Arm removal for magnetizing looks like an interesting challenge...

Any idea what the parts of the cultits are going to be.

I am thinking of using them as conscripts/milita and do some head swaps.

My cultists are probably going to become a Munda gang. Just look at the leader with the storm coat, just screams Delaque

I had the same idea about them being a necromunda gang as WELL as troops for my renegade IG army to supplement my CSM army.

The hellbrute will likely get the twin reaper arm conversion just cause that's a very nasty amount of firepower w/out sacrificing the CC ability so it's a rifleman on steroids. (if the rumored rules are truth of course). All the CSM will become Iron Warriors so they'll look great in the color scheme.

As for the loyalists... I'm really not sure, I've got 2.5 loyalist PA armies (SW, IF & GK) so I think the Chaplain will become a PA Wolf Priest to lead my BC out of the Storm Eagle I'm working on for my Wolves. I'm really torn on the bikers as I have an attack bike for my IF army but it's not painted so it could also just as easily be a SW attack bike. I might just buy another 2 bikes & make them a bike command squad.

Yeah I want to use this set as a starter to a Nurgle/Death Guard army. Although having never used GS before, I'm a bit concerned about ruining some lovely looking models.

I myself have been meaning to convert the Chaos models to Slaaneshi CSM. I had a general idea of what I wanted to do like add fur and leather, but I just can't find the appropriate guides or areas where I should incorporate Slaaneshi iconography and other assorted Slaanesh 'paraphernalia'. Does anyone here know of any guides or tricks to creating said devotees of Slaanesh?

We'll find out soon enough eh.

I couldn't resist having a wee play about to see what the Lord would look like in truescale, and now I want to start another project, which I promised myself I'd avoid

He'd look so lovely with blood-bunny ears and a couple of Khorne symbols

I need to acquire plastic Skavenslaves, can you help?
