Just getting back into the game after two ish years i ordered the ltd edition Dark vengeance set. I want to stick with one of the two armies to be my main army which i begin collecting again but im torn between which. Ive had ultramarines before. So dark angels or chaos? Having been out for so long im not sure how either plays in the 6th edition rule book

Well, both are old and creaky codexes, leading folks to speculate that their placement in the starter set means they're getting updated soon. There's also a couple of brand-new Chaos models in the set, so they're almost definitely getting a revamp ASAP.

As for which to choose, I think it mostly comes down to aesthetic preference. Your Ultras (assuming you still own them) can be converted to either army without much difficulty. A fresh coat of paint makes them DAs, and a few spikes plus a paint job will make them Chaos with no fuss.

I'd recommend you wait until one or both of them get new codexes before committing yourself. It's very hard to say at this point how they'll end up working.

i actually sold all my ultramarines which i had alot of fluff accurate and all, and sold all my grey knights as well. So im completely starting from scratch

well, if you go chaos you can do what Im doing and convert all the DA to chaos as well, and you have a decent sized army

If you're looking for a change from Ultramarines, then I'd go with Chaos. Also, the new cultist models indicate the new Chaos codex will be changed even more, always good if you're looking for a change. However, if you enjoyed playing Ultras then DA might be better, as they're essentially the same except with a greater emphasis on bikes and termies.

Im excited to see a new chaos codex and what it has to offer, at the same time i did love my ultras and have always loved the DA. Also im interested to see if the mystery picture on the spines of what looks like a DA (azrael) is any indication that new da may be coming out soon. I wanted templars but god only knows when there will be any new anything from them

The picture on the spines of White Dwarf is some of the artwork on the collector edition 6th edtion rulebook I believe.
I'm in a similar boat to you in that I just re-started from scratch after a big break, but I did it about 6months ago and have a few squads of purple space marines to build upon... so it's the Dark Angels for me Although I'm really keen to paint the Chaos figures up too, theyre easily the best starter set yet!

So you dont think its any indication of new dark angels in the near to semi near future? kinda have my fingers crossed

They've put out a release schedule. Or leaked it, rather.
