Hey folks, I have finally finished painting up this beast and seeing as I haven't posted anything in a while (my blog was short lived lol) I thought I'd put him here. I tried to do this one quickly as I have a heap of models still to go to complete my force, unfortunately he has more details than I thought so it slowed me down a lot!

Don't worry kiddies Gary the Eldar isn't actually decapitated just buried upto his head in the sand

Ok from this angle it looks like he's been shot in the head, it is however just an air hole to keep him cool

Gary:"Hey what's that behind me guys? Smells like burning.... why are you running!?"

Really nice looking model! that being said, you should really try to photograph it in some natural lighting, because the lamp you are using is making it look extra yellowish. Other than that it looks awesome!

Looks great! Very fearsome.

Life is like a box of chocolates. A cheap, thoughtless and perfunctory gift nobody ever asked for. Unreturnable because all you get back is another box of chocolates. So you're stuck with this undefinable whipped mint crap that you mindlessly wolf down because there's nothing left to drink. Sure once in a while there's a peanut butter cup or a English toffee, but they're gone too fast and the taste is fleeting. So you end up with nothing but broken bits of hardened jelly and teeth shattering nuts. If you're desperate enough to eat those all you've got left is a. An empty box, filled with useless brown paper wrappers.

The NMM is excellent. A quite good Salamanders scheme, if I do say so myself. The lighting does make the NMM look a tad ochre, however. I think some better lighting would display it a bit better. Also, the dragon on his banner looks a bit cockeyed.

Cheers!

Very nicely done, love the vibrancy, both of this model and of your whole army.

Very nice...I don't normally comment on 40k stuff but that's one nice Dreadnaught...The custom 'nids vs termie pannel is great, did you make that? Are those purple thingies on the base crystals?

Thanks for the replies. The relief on the shoulder is actually part of the original model; it is embossed on the resin. I think this part is the coolest of the entire model as it shows Bray'arth fighting Ymgarl Genestealers where he was mortally wounded and later put inside a dreadnought forged by the Primarch Vulkan.

The gold is me really mucking around with my browns and ochres trying to practice the technique although I rushed it here by layering instead of wet blending which is more time consuming. I have a long list of stuff to paint for my Salamanders so I gota get a move on!

The purple crystals are just resin bits in the GW basing kits which I painted up. I was hoping the would look crystal like but oh well.

The one thing I forgot to mention is that I put magnets in the base of the banner so it could be removed for transport as it seemed likely to snap off. As for his helmet, there is not much there its just a half dome with slits which I assumed are the "eyes" of the Dreadnought.

I forgot to mention those interested in learning techniques for painting fire should look here: http://hot-lead.org/advance/fire.htm

I have probably said it before but the Hot Lead dvd is great. I'd recommend it to anyone interested in stepping up their painting skills and even better for beginners to miniature painting.

I don't mean to rain on your parade, and I know this is just a bit of fluff you added to the model to make the shoulder fit, but I think this is a contradiction as far as fluff goes. The first Tyranids (Genestealers) weren't encountered by the Imperium until M35. Vulkan left the Salamanders almost immediately after the Horus Heresy, which was in M31. So unless there was an extra Dreadnought chassis just laying around that happened to be made by Vulkan, there's no way Vulkan could have made him a Dreadnought body in response to a wound from a Tyranid, because he was long gone.

Don't mean to be a fluff Nazi, I'm just really into the background. I love it when people add background to their characters. Adds a lot of depth to them.

Hah thanks for the reply, as odd as it may seem I didn't write the backstory to this guy. There is an Imperial Armour entry for him describing the fluff I sumarised for him. You are right Vulkan definately wasn't around when he was put inside the dreadnought chasis so he must of forged it in the hersey era and it was simply kept as a Chapter relic. There is a link to the lexicanum describing him here: http://wh40k.lexicanum.com/wiki/Bray'arth_Ashmantle

The rules for him are great but would be pretty OP if used in a standard 40k game so I am just going to run him as an Iron Clad.

Hopefully that's the case, as FW just contradicted themselves if it's not. xD
