What do you fellow 40k'ers do with your spare bits, provided you have a few spare 40mm bases laying around. after going thru the bits box I have, myself had taken a little handful of various bits I have and have made themed objective markers for Chaos (made a couple of markers for them) & GreyKnights (and was able to squeeze out a marker for them.

I'm trying to make a small SM strike force based on DOW2 (while making each squad member look individual) using some left over bits.

Never tried making objective markers, but I bet it makes the objective missions more fun.

I save my bits and either use them later to customize models, decorate bases, build terrain, make objective markers, or just leave them in a box until I need to use them.

Same, I have about 30-40 Marines worth of bits lying around sorted and an innumerable amount of randoms bits from my many failed attempts at armies over the years.

I keep mine bits separated in bead boxes I picked up a local craft and hobby stores. I've used them for one-off projects or for kitting out vet squads and such.

I have about a dozen of these for my orks and space marines.

Exactly this.

I put them in a big box. Sometimes a few fall out and get swept up.
But sometimes I have ones that I can use to squeeze extra ork models out of or use to convert.

I use those bead containers to separate bits by army. When I'm selling armies, I offer all of the respective bits.

I store my SM bitz in an old Vindicator box with a hole in the top so if I find a loose part (head or shoulder pad) I can.just drop it through. Very useful thing to have. For example when my brother got AOBR I was able to upgrade the Termies with a Chainfist and CML and have been able to convert quite a few models from the bits inside.

I also do the same with my Nids and a Carni box. My GK bits are just left on the sprue as they have no big boxes to store them in.

I've got all my excess sprues (that aren't empty, mind) sitting in a giant storage container in my basement. I know, it's probably more economical to clip them off, but I've actually found a number of uses for actual sprue, so I hang onto them as well.

If enough are left on the sprues, i put them in a Drawer. If not, In a Tackle box. Sense Alot of my army requires legs to make i tend not to have alot(bases are kinda rare for me to get aswell) as are shoulder pads.
Mostly Use them for decorating models .

On Nimbosa, cramming as many guardsmen into troop carriers as possible.

most recently I used bitz from a cadian command squad and a 40mm base to make an objective marker with an officer slouching against a vox caster with his intestines (green stuff) hanging out....

Otherwise I put them in my bitz box.

I tend to wash my bits regularly (you know... for the ladies )

Warhammer spares and the like though I generally keep organised in a similar fashion to Kronk. I generally drag my spares around with me sometimes as it is nice to trade with people or to give people parts when you know you have spares that others need.

At one point my club was actually keeping an active pool of spares which was pretty awesome, but lately people just tend to keep their own.

Kitbashing stuff is a lot easier when you have a ton of random bits around! Save 'em and worst comes to worst... you can glue them all together into a giant mess to fight off pillagers in a post apocalyptic world.

I do much the same, I clip them all off and store them in an ever growing set of drawers with little dividers inside. Every six months I add another damn drawer...that's what happens when you have IG!

Throw 'em in a box and figure out something to glue them on later.

So far those somethings for me have been trophies, weapon swaps, head swaps, added random bitz'n'bobs so as to occupy more space and building piles of stuff that I know I'm gonna use but I can't think or remember what it was.

I have a 1 large suitcase full of bits.

atleast 10 box of GK 10 box of GK termi, 10 box of normal termi. 5 box of SW termi, 10 rhino box, 5 box of sanuinary guard, lots random necron bits from impulse buy. Also about 30 resin HQ boxes unbuilt that i might use as bits. Lastly 2 army worth of models stored to be used as something. Also some random stuff, you can find all army bits in that suitcase, some of them i don't even know is there.

*when i say box I mean bits left from 1 box

All that and I have not really done anything about them yet.

I just moved to a new apartment, and it was tedious but fun to go through box after box of sprues and clipping off every bit left over. I organized them into the tackle boxes I have or plastic baggies, depending what kind of bits they were or which army they serve. Having a deep bitz box is great since it let me do stuff like this scenic base:

Schrott

I have 2 kinds of boxes.

"Large" bitz.
Which includes peices parts of vehicales, random strips of plasticard that have a 50/50 chance of either being thrown away or finding usage as some random peice of armor or whatever, and whatever larer plastic parts i find that could be of use.

And "Infantry bitz" which are all packed into a few small compartmentalized boxes that actually attach to the top of my boxes. they contain tons of infantry parts.
From Ork arms and gunz to IG heads and torsos, even a few tau or chaos peices can be found.

What tends to happen is I accumulate parts from various sources.
one is that my brother who also plays 40k jumps between armys like people change underwear. So i would eventually end up with many peices parts from his units. I have half of a Rhino/Predator that was chaos once. it has heavy damage but im sure it could be scenery or something. or with HEAVY repairs could be the side of a tank....

Plano boxes all the way. I can keep everything divided up by type, and it's easier to grab what I want when I want it. I love being able to mix and match bits to create stuff. Lord commissar with a double chainsword? I think so!

My bits box is a bit off, as I have from the start of my army been a rearticulator, and I also make each individual soldier different...which gets tedious after 75 of them.....

So I reuse everything and I cut apart a lot of pieces, making new weapons or giving some guys left handed lasguns or two pistols or such....while some of my bits are getting excessive - there aren't too many uses for extra canteens besides...well...giving a dude a canteen - you'd be amazed what poses you can pull off by cutting two different arms in half and switch the pieces....

When asked by a German Officer to surrender his forces at Mortain, Lieutenant Kerley of the 30th Infantry Division replied by saying "Go f**k yourself."

Best thread name?

I mostly keep them. Rarely ever use them, and then its generally only for basing/base based conversions.

I did make a few objective markers. The sword/axe arms from the daemon prince model are quite good. I made a 'arm bursting through the ground' objective with those. Of course I had to cut through his elbow and turn it around so that his arm was straight...

When did I buy a corpse cart? Are these... Fairy Meat? Wow! Female space marines!? What are those from? Where did all these sprues of Tyranid weapons come from?

I get angered every time I look at my bitz box, I could make many more squads for my armies if I just had some LEGS!!!

As I very frequently kibash my bits 'box' isnt huge, its one small tray divided into categories (heads, rifles, CC weapons ect).
