See, THIS is my concern. Tamurkhan shouldn't have been a flop, but so few bought it that it seems like one. And then we never heard about a another book. Forge World is the perfect venue for some of these figures, but they really need to tone down the gold-plated pricetag of some things.

They lost more than one sale from me because If I cant afford the rules there's no point in buying the miniatures that are rule specific for this book.
People don't buy FW books for the rules. People buy the FW books because they are usually pretty damned amazing books. I put The Taros Campaign and the Badab War books as some of the best they've done. People have a year's subscription to WD and they'll NEVER seed anything remotely close to this much content or quality for the price. Remember way back when WD had those articles on the Adeptus Astartes, chapter by chapter? Yea, neither do most people. But for those who do, they are a whimpering shadow of what you get in a typical FW book. I don't know if I'll get all of them but I do intend to get at least some.

This is true, and I'm one who buys FW books for both - Vraks, Badab, Anphelion - and I don't love them enough to pay over $100 for a rule or reference book.
I also hope they put out a non-leatherette version, but won't hold my breath.

Likely.
Question is.. if they start off with a faux-leather bound book for 70 quid.... what'll be the final volume " Horus Heresy Book 876: Showdown on the Vengeful Spirit Part 7", probably bound in faux-Gold and 1894 pages thick, will be MSRP...

I must be the exception to the rule then!
I've been playing since Rouge Trader and seen enough fluff go by / be re-written that I'm no longer interested in it. I only play at tournaments so the rules come pretty near the top for me after painting and modelling.
I'm sure I'll be picking up the terminators and anything else that can be fitted into a normal codex but thats it and those jet bikes looked really nice..

To be fair...
Tamurkhan wasn't really a flop in the sense you think it was, and we have heard about another book. We're supposed to be getting "Blackfire Pass" at some point within the next year or so and we already got Monstrous Arcana, but the big thing is that they're seemingly still "getting their feet wet" when it comes to Warhammer Forge. I don't think there's anything missing from Tamurkhan's lists (someone will certainly correct me if there is), but there still is a lot for Monstrous Arcana.

Hey, I generally like 40K fluff, but FW doesn't have a good track-record there I think.
Too many typos.
Too pretentious.
Too much stiff narcissism by the writers.
Too much thinly disguised not-faschism-pron
Too much grandiloquent failure to acknowledge the inherent satire in much of 40K
FW fluff is 40K fluff at its worst by and large (with exceptions proving the rule).

Seriously? A carefully constructed and incredibly intricate faux-historical campaign book is 40K fluff at it's worst? What on earth is Blood Angels bro-fisting Necrons, GK bathing in the blood of SoB to increase their purity, and all the other nonsense we've had recently? Sorry chum, the "oversaturated-angsty-antihero-black comedy-fest" of 2nd Edition is history, thankfully, and I'll take the Vraks or Badab War books over anything GW have put out in the last....well, ever actually.

Other than the typos, which I do find concerning at times (I think I saw them misspell "were" as "where" at least 4 times on one page in IA3), I have to disagree with you here. The IA books give a good scope of the 40k fluff from the military/campaign point of view. I think it does so excellently, and I don't know what you mean about the "pretentious/narcissism" part. I never picked up on it.

I must admit I'm blanching at the price somewhat, but as Games Day falls 2 days after this month's payday, I think I might be buying it. I also think that considering the epic amount of cash you see spunked over the ForgeWorld desk at most UK Games Days, that this book will unfortunately be a roaring success at this price and no one at GW Towers will ever be convinced that dropping the price is a good idea.
Probably means I won't be doing the BL Weekender that I was thinking about doing though.

Purely going off my own thoughts and based on no factual evidence whatsoever, I would have thought that even though FW is definitely doing better and better, the number of straightforward plastic Space Marines sold by GW every year is still staggering, so I would think that in terms of total financial performance, GW is still beating FW quite comfortably.
I keep thinking about that JJ quote about the whole thing being a front for drugs, has anyone from GW ever worked out how many legions of Astartes have been produced and sold in 28mm (ish) form??

I'm kind of glad when I did this pre-heresy lark when it first came along, and made an army 3-4 years ago (even though it does look decidedly poor compared to the new Forge World stuff! ), everything coming from Forge World now seems to be priced at the 'because we can, and look they still buy it lol' level. £70 for a book is an absolute piss-take whichever way you look at it.

Hi there,
We come to it at last, perhaps the most exciting week in Forge World’s history. Today we’re revealing some of what you can expect from our Studio area at Games Day UK on Sunday 23rd September, and if that wasn’t enough we can reveal the first of many Horus Heresy models that will be available to buy in limited numbers from our Sales stand on the day!
The Horus Heresy Volume I: Betrayal
If you missed last week’s newsletter, we’ve added a new video to our YouTube channel, in which Alan Bligh reveals more about the first of our Horus Heresy books which apparently a few people are quite excited about.
The Horus Heresy Book I: Betrayal will be on sale for the very first time, in limited numbers, at Games Day UK on Sunday 23rd September.
Lavishly decorated, this book is leather-bound with inlaid metal detailing and foil-blocked page edging, and also features metal cleats to the corners of the book’s casing impressed with the Imperial Aquila. This 290-page tome delves into the fratricidal conflict on Isstvan III that saw Warmaster Horus’s traitor Legions purge their own ranks of those legionaries that would remain loyal to Terra.
It is a stand-alone supplement for Warhammer 40,000 and contains a vast array of colour profiles, maps and artwork. Also included is a full Space Marine Legion army list and background, histories, character profiles and special rules for the Death Guard, Sons of Horus, World Eaters and Emperor’s Children Legions.
You can find out more about this amazing book on the Games Day UK page on the Forge World website.
The Forge World Studio at Games Day UK
As befits the largest Games Workshop event of the year, each year our entire studio decamps to the NEC in Birmingham for Games Day UK, and this year is no exception!
Our Miniatures Designers will each be showcasing their most recent models as well as work-in-progress kits and concept work. You’ll be able to chat to each designer about the process they went through creating the fantastic Horus Heresy, Warhammer and Warhammer 40,000 models that make up our range, and you might even discover a few of our top secret future plans too…
The Book Design team will be displaying the incredible amount of talent and effort that goes into each of our books. Our Graphic Illustration staff will be working on fantastic colour profiles and artwork before your very eyes on their high-tech pict-cogitators, while the Writing team will be displaying early proof copies of their latest work and answering all your questions about how and why we select each narrative.
The studio area wouldn’t be complete without the unique display boards we create to accompany our books, and we will have some old favourites for you to admire too. Our Painters and Mould Makers (and, in fact, the majority of our design team) are even now slaving away on a mountain of foam, wire, plastic sprues and resin models to create one of the most amazing display tables we have ever produced for this year’s Games Day. All will be revealed on Sunday 23rd September, of course, but for now all we can mention is an awful lot of Space Marines…
Games Day UK Pre-release Kits
Scimitar Pattern Space Marine Legion Jetbike
Squadrons of ‘Sky Hunters’ are fielded by almost all of the Legiones Astartes. These feared strike units are heavily armed and mounted upon sophisticated and powerful craft more akin to small flyers than ground bikes. There are several patterns of jetbike produced by the Mechanicum, all of which are modified from designs that pre-date the Imperium, and all of which are in considerable demand by the Space Marine Legions.
The Scimitar Pattern Space Marine Legion Jetbike, designed by Daren Parrwood, is a single multi-part resin model which features four weapons options: a Heavy Bolter, Plasma Cannon, Multi-melta or Volkite Culverin. This detailed resin kit will be available to buy at Games Day, in limited numbers.
Alongside this is the Scimitar Pattern Legion Jetbike Squadron – this kit contains three Jetbikes and will also be available to purchase in limited numbers at Games Day.
Space Marine Legion Shoulder Pads, Decals and Etched Brass
Simon Egan and Edgar Skomorowski have designed sets of MkII and MkIV shoulder pads for the Sons of Horus, Death Guard, Emperor’s Children and World Eaters Legions. Each set contains 10 resin shoulder pads bearing Legion insignia, and each set will be on sale in limited numbers at Games Day.
We’ll also have limited numbers of Sons of Horus and Death Guard Etched Brass and World Eaters, Sons of Horus and Death Guard Decal Sheets, each designed by Paul Rudge and each packed with Legion-specific heraldry, blazons and squad insignia.
Forge World Events News
Games Day UK
We’re going to be bringing you a Forge World newsletter every day this week with details of what we’ll be showcasing, displaying and pre-releasing at Games Day UK on Sunday 23rd September.
Tickets are still available for the biggest Games Workshop event of the year, so pop into your local Hobby Centre, call GW Customer Service on 0115 91 40000 or visit the Games Workshop online store to buy them.
We’ve also added a Games Day UK page to the Forge World website, and beside our daily newsletters it’s here that you’ll find all the latest information about everything we’ll be doing, pre-releasing and displaying at Games Day.
Thanks,
Ead Brown
