Subject: Blood Angels Plog: Now with Libby as HQ Request - Updated (10/5)
I've hesitated making this thread as it puts me in the spot of having to update it and I'm horribly lazy.
I've been collecting Space Marines (Blood Angels) since the original RTB01 box and still have my 1st Ed. Hardback. I will spoiler the list, but I am missing only 2 Blood Angel minis (Leonatos and GD2012 Cap) and the list is very short for others I seek to turn into Blood Angels. I have right around 22000 points in Blood Angels, and that doesn't count wargear. That's just straight up, base cost of each marine as they are listed. No power weapons/fists, special weapons, base Devs, etc..etc... It also does not include the Stormlord or Baneblade slated for conversion.
The List:
Spoiler:
Dante
Mephiston
Tycho
Sanguinor
Astorath

I'm going to start with the Scouts and try not to hop around too much. I tend to get sidetracked and this thread is intended to keep me on course.

I was reading the middle paragraph and thought 'spolier the list', why? Then i read 22000 points, and thought it was a typo. Then when i clicked the spoiler button, well, my jaw dropped. That is an insane amount of models.
It would be interesting to see how this pans out
You probably got a 'plan' as to what to paint first, but it might be an idea to paint the 'most used' models first, so your not constantly fielding grey/primed models when you play.
I wish you luck, and look forward to the first update

Sadly, I haven't played a game of 40k in about 15 years now. Mostly due to not having a place to play or being a place my minis weren't. I'm mostly a collector/builder/painter/fluff nugget.
I also have somewhere between 6k-7k of Eldar (I own every model currently made plus older stuff) and about 5k-7k in Iron Warriors.
I won't even get into the amount of stuff I own for other systems.
So first update (photo tomorrow) I sorted out and put all the scouts on bases and they should be primered at the least by end of day. Hopefully I'll get some color on them. Although 1 seems to be AWOL as I only counted 65.
OK, so you thought I wasn't posting because I said I was lazy. Turns out all my painting stuff wasn't where I thought it was. I just recently moved so now that I've hunted down my compressor, airbrush, etc...
I got the 65 Scouts (still not sure where #66 went) on their bases, big gravel bits on the bases, primed them all black, and painted a test scout.
See, I wasn't being that lazy last week.
Let's have a look;
All of them -
Test 1 Shot 1 -
Test 1 Shot 2 -
Let me know what you think, etc...
Decals and final basing will be all done as the last step to ensure uniformity.
Awesome! Sanguinius smiles upon you. but sweet collection too

We are winged salvation, but we are a terrible, final salvation, and our wings embrace the horizon with fire. We are the Blood Angels. To confront us is to die, and death is my remit, my reality, my unbounded domain. I have known death, and defeated it, claimed it as my own. To my cost, to my strength, death is my one gift to bestow, and I am nothing if not generous.

So here's 5 more Scouts and a Dread. I got tired of hammering on Scouts and finished off the first Dread. This one is just standard loadout and not magnetized as I recieved him already assembled. Going forward the other ones will be magnetized. As always, 2 shots with different lighting since I'm not a photographer. The main reason the red appears different between photos is one is under a more blue light and the other under a more yellow light. If anyone wants close ups of something, I can single them out. I also used an old trick to pull something off. I'll see if anyone can spot it.
My pattern going forward will probably be something similar since doing the same thing over and over kills my productivity. So be prepared for other stuff to show up in between the painting of repetitive minis. Mostly whatever is close to the top of the bags. I know there's some Rhinos, Bikes, and Attack Bikes close at hand. So maybe those will sneak in the next update.

As always, thoughts, comments, ideas!?
No on to the question portion.
I was hoping there would be some more action in this thread and I'm wondering if it's because there are no "cool" minis yet. So, the list is at the top.
What does the audience want to see next? SG? Characters? Tanks? VV? Sternguard? Terms?
Let me know!

Nice work on the tactical marines However, the armour looks a little too red. I think you need to break it up by a little silver between each joint - behind the knee, in the elbow, groin etc.
Scouts are well done too.
I'll admit it's tough to have a 'successful' blog, just because people aren't commenting, doesn't mean they aren't looking. You have like 500 views?
I'd personally like to see a HQ next. Like a nicely done Captain or something. Nothing too big, like mephiston. A well done captain would leave us (well, me atleast) wanted to see more.
Alrighty, I found the Sternguard box and this is what the first 6 will bring you!
I'll make a PA Libby with staff, sword, and Plasma Pistol. Built mostly from GK and a couple BA bits.
The 6 Sternguard will be; Heavy Flamer, Heavy Bolter, 2 Combi-Meltas, and 2 Bolters. Built from GK, BA, and SM bits. Except the 2 Metal guys, they just get some tack-on stuff.
I might have enough time to get some rough shots of assembly later today.

OK, the Libby in PA is done. He took way too long for my tastes and I left out the Power Sword I was going to hang on his hip. I just felt it might have been overkill.
I'm pretty happy with him with the exception of 2 mold lines that I can see and definately stand out in the pics. They are nowhere near that bad in person and one is on the underside/back of the arm. However, that's what I get for trying to do this while my two boys were home from school.
Here we go!
Basing will be done down the road and I'm always amazed at my crappy photography. Some stuff really pops and other stuff just doesn't show up at all. You can't even see the two-tone blues from the wash, but those Purity Seals look amazing!
Let me know what you think.
Now I'm on to the Sternguard that were requested.

Very crisp paint job, but i cant help but feel it's not quite finished... maybe thats down to the lack of seeing the two blue tones. Also the back of the knees look like they've been forgotton, a quick slap of silver and a brown wash will break up the blue. Having said that, the inside of the exhaust doesn't look metallic either.
Overall, a very nice piece have yet to notice the mould lines you speak off.
