Subject: Borderlands 2 - Who else is looking forward to this one?
If there's something I can't solo, I won't do it at all. So far I haven't had any good experiences with multiplayer.. just a bunch of brats killing everything and taking all the loot that drops, or people that just go to the map and stay at the entrance so everyone else can finish the quest for them. I'd imagine it would be a lot of fun to play with friends you know, but I don't know any friends with a PS3 that also play what I want when I want :/

People stealing the loot is one reason I will never play online matchmaking. If they did not implement a loot system a-la World of Warcraft's need/greed rolling system, then I have no interest in playing because it simply becomes a contest of who can snap up the good loot fastest. With fiends at least there is something of an honor system when it comes to loot.

Well, I've been using Infinity ever since I got it around level 9 (because the Saber Turret and Bonus Package-yarp, lucky enough to get it on my first Boom'n'Bewm kill- make mincemeat of Doc Mercy), and I'm now level 18... When should I look to replace it?
It's a great weapon, if a little annoying because of the pattern it fires in, but it's just not pulling enough weight damage-wise to make the super-fast fire rate, 'unlimited' (so long as you have at least 1 pistol round left) ammo and no reloads seem worth it; shots seem to bounce off everything now, or just chip slowly away at their health, and although it'll take some time getting used to reloading and ammo consumption again, should I replace it soon? Or will it last long enough for me to be able to farm PT2 Doc Mercy for it?

I really doubt it will last that long. At lv 18 with Guerrila, I was running a green/blue rocket assault rifle, Rocket Launcher and a moxxi SMG with a green shotgun and sniper rifle for backup.
You don't need super gear for first playthrough.

I've been thinking of waiting a while for the bad touch (can't really afford the good touch atm) but it is a guarenteed gun...
Along with Infinity, I'm running a purple rocket assault rifle and a green sniper, with a green rocket launcher and burny purple smg as backup.

It only costs about 10k to get the first Mox gun, then about 1-2k for each additional.
(you have to tip about 10k in 1k amounts to get the first one then any further guns are just off of number of tips, not amount. So you tip 10-20 times 100 each time for later guns.)
Yeah, you're doing fine then. Infinity is just a nice starter gun. I got one as well.

Yeah, I kept on tipping, got given the Good and Bad Touches and my controller turned into a sex toy. I can see why it's supposed to be Moxxi's favourite gun

Long story short: Mechromancer has been released today instead of next week.

Now I'm really not sure whether to finish my Zer0 run or start a new character.

IGN wrote:Gearbox has announced that Borderlands 2’s Mechromancer downloadable content will be available today. While the additional class was originally set to arrive on October 16th, players will now be able to download the character, named Gaige, a week early.
The Mechromancer will be free to players who pre-ordered Borderlands 2 and were entered into the Premiere Club, or $9.99 (800 Microsoft Points) for other players. Gearbox has also added Gaige’s entire skill tree to the Borderlands 2 official site, letting players plan their character early.
The Mechromancer is the fifth class for Borderlands 2, joining the Siren, Assassin, Commando and Gunzerker who were available at launch. She’ll be able to unleash Death Trap, her robot companion, to fight enemies at will, in addition to three skill tree branches for players to choose from. The content is expected to be available for all platforms later today in North America, and we’ll update this story once release information is revealed for other territories.
Until then, check out gameplay of Gaige in action in The Highlands below, and check out videos of the Mechromancer on The Fridge and the Mechromancer on Hyperion for even more.
Borderlands 2 originally hit stores on September 18th. For much more on our thoughts on the game, check out our Borderlands 2 review and find out everything you need from our Borderlands 2 wiki guide.
Hey Kanluwen. Wanna let me leach XP with my Mechromancer when I play this evening? I'd like to level one up as quickly as possible. My Zero will finish my story play through but I'd like to have Gaige at 50 as soon as possible to join in with you and Eddie farming.

purplefood wrote: I was looking at the Mechromancer skill tree...

Actually the skill trees each offer one of three very distinct play styles.
The Best Freinds Forever tree is a pet class. Basically everything revolves around buffing the Deathtrap and making it go on murderfests. Think Demonology Warlocks from World of Warcraft. The Deathtrap eventually gets a shield and restores your shields while being tanky and awesome. As he kills he increases his duration, and the tree reduces his cooldown.
The Little Big Trouble tree is designed around elemental damage, and specializes in causing shock damage to targets that also lights them on fire. The Deathtrap sets up shock explosions for you and when you reload your gun you fire a blast of electricity around you. Also lasers.
The Ordered Chaos tree is completely different than anything else in the game. It lets you stack a buff on yourself that increases damage but decreases accuracy forcing you to get closer and closer to your target to deal damage. Also, it buffs you and the Deathtrap to deal extra melee damage, and has an optional triggered buff that allows you to temporarily increase accuracy while slowly reducing the stack size of the other buff. The general idea is that you either go for a weapon with a very small clip and play the glass cannon, building your stack as high as possible and rushing the enemy, or you try to keep your stacks low and constantly drop in and out of Discord, regenerating health and increasing fire rate and accuracy.
Personally I like the idea that one class can be played in three very different ways. It's interesting.

Anyone else find that, constructors aside, Hyperion forces are ridiculously easy? They just sit there and let you blow their weapons off. Been laying waste to them with a progression of bog standard green/white maliwan corrosive Sniper rifles since they first appeared. The only difficult enemy is the constructors and their hideous amount of health and cheap homing missiles.
Something i have noticed about borderlands 2 which makes it a cut above most shooters is the 'Burn rates'. They are really well balanced and encourage experimental play without ammunition becoming a scarce resource, but at the same time forcing the player into some light scavenging. Alot of modern shooters forget this fundamental part of FPS/shooter design theory and it is not something 99.9% of non-industry people know about. Of course you could just buy it from the vending machines i guess.
Started playing as the gunzerker, one word: AWESOME!
Feels alot more skilled and less repetitive than axton or zero and the cooldown is juusst right. Tediore and hyperion weapons are finally tactically viable when before they seemed pretty pointless (Tediore because of wobbly accuracy/low damage and hyperion because of shallow mags) and his skill tree is really cool. It's a shame the initial health regeneration perk is pretty underpowered (titan class mod helps) as Axton's regeneration aleaved the tedium of playing as zero.
I still like Axton's tactical style but i should have picked gunzerker for my first playthrough.

They are toying with you. Wait till playthrough 2 and you'll find robots a lot more...interesting.
Also, there is an error in the compatibility download, as well as the dl itself causing some issues making the Mechro unavail and not allowing online play.
I was trying to download the borderlands 2 compatibility pack its says free then when i go to download it. The download says it cost -1 then say you dont have enought microsoft points to purchase and says it cost 4294967295 points can some one get this fixed please
Gearbox is looking into it and say they want to have it fixed within 24 hours.

I had the same problem trying to DL it from the compatibility file. Go to the downloadable content and it works to download fine. Also had problems DLing the Mecro for a half hour. Asked Microsoft to call me and see if it was just getting bogged down, and the flaming thing started working! Very glitchy on the DLC opening day.
Reality is a nice place to visit, but I'd hate to live there.

Omg, thank you Aldarionn! I didn't know that you could leach like that. I parked Zero in town on split screen while Axton tore up Lynchwood. Free XP! Now to give him the +5% XP relic and we're golden.
Also, bought the premier pack which gets you Mechro and some goodies. Yay. Do the Vault Hunter relics stack?

I now have a sniper rifle that berates me every time I reload and /or kill a target. It would be slightly more amusing if it had a larger repertoire of lines, but since it's the best weapon I have come across so far, I cannot justify using another weapon.

Seriously, the thing 3 shots badass loaders and 1 shots anything that's not a badass. Super Badass Loaders take a single clip, and Constructors take a single clip. The only thing I've found that I have to reload to kill is Super Badass Constructors.
With a weapon that good, I cannot simply toss it aside because it tells me orphans on promethia can't afford ammo when I reload, or that the loader I just scored a crit on might be a nice guy if I'd gotten to know him better.

I like to think that Zero is the embodiment of violence itself, and thus has no parents. He was simply spawned into being because Pandora is such a hellhole, like a murder elemental.
