Just as the title says, I want to play chaos.. I am not happy the termies weren't re done. They really do look horrible (IMO) I am sure i read somewhere there will be a second wave for chaos So i don't plan on dropping hundreds just yet. But..Does anyone know If any company makes a good stand in for Chaos termies? I could always use Loyal Kits and convert them that's always a option.. Thanks in advance for any ideas

well no one does chaos termis proxies, i would say dont assume the old kit will be replaced, if they are they may not stay the same price.
you can always do 1k son terminators by converting grey knights. or paint up some dv death wing termis as fallen.

If you just want proxies, any model with a 40mm base will be fine. If you want to make custom chaos terminators on a budget, I'm afraid you're not going to find anything that looks better than the GW ones, for the same price.

As for converting up loyalist terminators... please don't, unless you know exactly what you're doing. There isn't enough trim on them, and there's too much open space on the plates. I've only seen a handful of converted loyalists that actually looked acceptable.

In my opinion, I think you should hold off until the second wave comes, and if they still aren't coming out, bite the bullet with the existing kit.

True-Scale (Boarding) marines? Stick them in Mk V/Heresy armour (which is larger/more reinforced than the other mks) and add a boarding shield to simulate the higher armour value. I use them as Plague Marines in my own army, but they could work as Terminators if your armed them correctly.

What don't you like about the current plastics?

I'd be very surprised if they got a new kit, frankly. The standard CSMs aren't getting re-done and they're basic parts are much older than the termies.

The only thing horrible is the heads imo, everything else is just fine.

I made pretty good CSM termies using the CSM lord kit, grey knight & AoBR termies but then I don't necessarily WANT them overloaded with the demon bling because I play Iron Warriors & I feel them to be a little more pragmatic & less showy than many of the other Legions. I also made use of Khador warjack heads (took some cutting & filing) for that heavier armor look. Using warriors of chaos heads can help alot as well. I honestly think they're pretty good, admittedly some of the heads suck & they could use more options in the kit but if you combine them with, as I said, GK termies & the CSM termie lord you've got such a variety of options there that it allows almost limitless looks without doing a whole lot of converting.

Even regular terminators aren't that Dynamic looking. You pretty much need GK Terminators or FW Terminators if you want anything more than that. The pieces really don't allow much.

hmmm, What about the SW termi box. Are the legs the same as the Normal SM termi box?

If you like the loyalist termies (any chapter), then the easy option is to use those models, painted to represent troops who've only recently gone Traitor - can be as simple as painting chaos symbols over their imperial icons. A few weapon swaps will be needed if you want any of the chaos-specific weapons (or do some converting to create counts-as equivalants). You could even mix and match bits from both loyalist and chaos kits, representing troops whove been Traitor for a while and have had chaotic armour repairs - that would also be a good source of chaos weapons

@ clang - Did you read any of the other posts, namely the OP?

AoBR termies, all Chaos-ed up and such. About as good as it gets until new models come out, if...

back on track...Does anyone know How the legs in the Space wolf termi box look? After talking with my buddies, probally what i will do is just mix and match GK bits (the heads) in with some loyalist stuff and then Chaos marine stuff. until i get the codex in my hand im not planning on anything though lol.

If you're willing to shell out the money, here are my suggestions for the conversions:

GK Termies as the base and swap the weapons for the FW Tartaros Terminator weapons. Get some shoulderpads for your chosen legion/warband from Puppetswar or one of the other third party vendors.

For the conversion work, I would use liquid GS to fill in the GK sculpting and plastic strips from Plastruct or Evergreen to do the Chaos edging with rivets (either third party rivets or plastic rod).

SW mixed with CSM termies would work I would imagine

Having built several chaos terminator kits, I can say with certainty that either you haven't built them, and are basing your opinions off the site models, or you're too picky

They have plenty of motion. Just give them a chance!

Yep. The only super-static models are AoBR, and that's really not that hard to fix

Speaking of chaos terminators, the only thing I don't much like about them is their huge trophy racks - throws off the composition of the minis, imo. If you build them without the spikes, do you get an unsightly gap? I'm debating buying a set of loyalist terminator torsos on ebay and using the back halves of those instead.

Did you know? The Reach belongs to the Forsworn.

It should work, seeing as the backs are basically the same

All terminator models are basically clunky. You can make them much more dynamic, but it involves quite a bit of surgery

Agreed. Leaving out the spikey bits won't hurt anything. If it does look odd without, a little GS to patch the odd spots will fix it up.

Side note:
Those are some sexy termies right there... Now back onto your regularly programmed forum posts.

Terminators aren't supposed to be dynamic. They have limited range of motion. The suits are bulky mini fortresses. It is why they can not sweeping advance.

If you really want you could just buy a bunch of the CSM terminator lord models. Quite dramatic pose, and the arms and shoulders are easy to magnetize. It is probably the best looking terminator model out. But it could get rather pricey if you try to do a squad. I have two and love the options. Plenty of extra bitz to spread among the other terminator sets.

Thanks everyone for the info, i really appreciate all the ideas. I think what im going to do is either buy the new Tartos (or however it is spelt) terminators from FW.. Or use a mix match of ALL the termi kits (- the stupid trophy racks) One thing that bothers me as everyone keeps asking is.. Fluff wise..the Loyalist termi and Chaos termies should not match.. Now i know someone is going to say.. 'well what if they Just turned traitor' Sure fine everyone can do anything they want, Just to me..they should be older suits of termi armor. I still need to deiced which theme i am going with, And if it is going to be competitive or fun list. I am leaning more towards Nurgle or Khorne..both of which i feel are the easiest to model/convert. I might even do Slaanesh and have sex drugs and rock and roll terminators everywhere lol.

Also something else that bothers me.. The Chosen models from DV, are the same damn size as terminator models.. So no matter what i deiced on using..it will have to get work done to it for enhance the height.
