Well isn't that just a fine how do ya do.

Alfndrate, name is not part of this issue at all. He is willing to pay a handsome dowry to a man to take her for a wife.

She then takes the mans name, and the daughter is never his problem again.

Since he has this kind of money available to him, I suspect he is also doing this to try and save his own face. No more embarrassment for himself or his business if his daughter gets married off properly.

This is China remember. Not exactly a mecca of civil rights and understanding. It is a wonder she ever survived to make it out of the womb.

Will we hear from the U.N. peanut gallery of human rights on this issue? Nope, and I believe China is on the HRC.

Yoko Ono.
And that's an insult to this cute lesbo. Yoko was scary.

I'm quite tired, and was in a bit of a rush.

Are you sure the one on the left (Yoko) is who you are referring to? It seems pretty obvious the focus of the story wouldn't be who I was referring to.

Someday all these Neanderthals are going to have to realize one simple fact about lesbians.

Many have had relationships with men. No smal number of them had good sex lives with men. What made them lesbians was that they couldn't have happy relationships with men... and they could have a happy relationship with a woman.

In short... the attraction isn't physical (at least, not directly); it's emotional.

Neanderthals are extinct.

Primarily just an observation. Somehow I've wound up working with quite a few lesbians and I guess I'm pretty easy to talk to (judging soley by the way people keep telling me private stuff that they generally don't share with the majority of their coworkers). Most lesbians have told me variations of the same story - many failed relationships with men, generally over emotional issues rather than physical ones, then they hooked up with a woman and every thing went fine from there.

Gay guys, on the other hand, it seems to be primarily physical. I guess the Y chromosome does that; gay or straight, men do tend to consider the physical attraction much more important than the emotional connection.

Adrift within the vortex of my imagination.

Which is saying its easier to convert a woman than a man.

With men you are gay straight or bi, end of.

With women its getting the right partner. Some men understand the female mentality better than others.
In the UK a lot of girls are going lesbian because of chav culture, young males nowadays (I hesitate to call them men) with wild boy attitudes drive females away as often as not.
Now this isnt the specific case here of course, but I think 'raw' male bravado may have a lot to do with it. Some women just arent interested in that BS.

Now anyone thinking they are a stud that after one night she will be converted are likely deluding themselves. However the right man may have a chance.

As the subject concerned looked at the facebook interest rather than just get angry about it raises the possibility that she might entertain the notion of the right man.

n'oublie jamais - It appears I now have to highlight this again.

It is by tea alone I set my mind in motion. By the juice of the brew my thoughts aquire speed, my mind becomes strained, the strain becomes a warning. It is by tea alone I set my mind in motion.

Orlanth's statement is so out of touch with the reality of gay people that I can't tell if it is satire or if he is serious.

You don't 'convert' gay people, or straight people for that matter. II do enjoying seeing the old wives tale of sexual prowess changing a persons sexual orientation, though. That is always good for a chuckle.

I am serious, and not out of touch. Perhaps you need to reread my post, there is a very big difference between males and females on this issue. Males rarely convert outside of a cycle of abuse, needed as a caveat as Sparta relied for its survival on you being entirely wrong here Ahtman. Spartiates were deliberately trained into being homosexual. This is an established historical fact and one the Spartans had no problems in admitting to contemporary outsiders.
Females convert more readily.

It's common enough its a problem with younger generations, younger people in my gaming group talk about women they know in their 20s converting to lesbianism because of appalling male sexual attitudes, particularly amongst the urban working and middle class 'chav' generation. Some do convert back.

There is even a colloquial phrase related to converting lesbians: hasbian

Chav is a term of disputed origin, most likely refering to either 'Cheltenham average' (an in joke term from Cheltenham Ladies college). The alternative explanation which is most likely a backronym is: Council Housed And Violent.

It refers to a youth underculture associated with violence, vandalism binge drinking and some 'fashion' styles.
The closest US parallel is trailer trash.

So, to counter a claim that you're out of touch you cite Sparta? What?

And yes, females more readily engage in open homosexual behavior because it is less stigmatized, and the only real stigma comes from the gay community which, correctly, notes that it is most often about getting male attention.

So...much...irony...

Life does not cease to be funny when people die any more than it ceases to be serious when people laugh.

indeed. We are talking sexuality here. So its is fair to assume that sexual preferences and human behaviour havent changed much. People 2500 years ago like to put their bits in the same sort of hole they do today.
Unless you are advocating that the human race is substantially different than it was is genetically quite a short period of time.

To some extent lesbianism is encouraged, let alone less stigmatised.

Human biology is the same, the mechanics of why people are straight or gay will be the same in ancient world through to today.

Are you seriously proporting that sexual preferences are different? That peoples raw preference for one gender or another has of itself evolved. That would be idiotic to claim.

People are gay or straight whether a modern Londoner of ancient Babylonian.

Thus if a people group was known to have changed sexualities of its populace by government policy it is proof itself that humanity is susceptible to such changes. If you took people born in the modern world and raised them through the societal training that the Spartans used you would get replica Spartiates. If that included the mandatory homosexuality training as received in the Spartan barracks then the subjects would become converted homosexuals as the Spartiates were.

This is relevant as if one method of converting persons sexual preferences are documented to exist when it is futile to claim that sexuality is purely dependent on genetics or that conversion of sexual preferences is impossible. We know that is not true, because it can and has been done. Sparta is a good example because any claims that this person or that person individually changed their sexuality are often dismissed as hearsay by those who insist that sexuality is fixed. Sparta is a large scale case study that disproves this and thereby supports claims that peoples sexuality can be altered by external pressures.
