Hey all,
I will be attending a 1500 point tournament in a couple of weeks, and I've been considering taking my Sisters of Battle. The main thing that keeps bugging me as I try to prepare a list, however, is whether or not I want to take the Living Saint.
I'm sure everyone is well aware by now of what the Saint does- of how she keeps spontaneously resurrecting, of how she is super-mobile and very killy, all for the insane points cost of only 115. I took her to a 1000 point tournament a week ago, and unsurprisingly, the Saint did very well in each game. In each game, however, it was made abundantly clear that my opponents did NOT enjoy having to face her.I have gotten the same impression from previous, non-tournament games as well, with at least two other opponents either grumbling about the Saint, or at the very least expressing annoyance at her unique abilities.
So, my big question is, should I even take the Saint to this tournament? I realize that every other HQ choice for Sisters is either sub-par, or at the very least need a pricey supporting squad (ie Canoness and Celestians, Jacobus and a big blob of Allied Guardsmen, etc). Or are tournaments one of the few places where I shouldn't have to worry about using an "overpowered" character? Because lets face it, Celestine is overpowered.
Thanks. Feedback is always welcome.

well I took her to a 600pts tourny... :3
but really, she isnt "super killy" she will maybe kill a marine or two each combat phase and thats it. at best she's a little bit annoying and easily dealt with via 2 plasma guns. or just tie her up in combat with some termies. she really is far from OP. the fact that she can get back up is a pain but hell, she's T3 and these days your a fool if your not packing plasma/melta etc

She is over powered so only use her in tornaments would be my advice, then people aren't getting frustrated with her in friendly games. In tornaments its a good way to be annoying with all the waac guys about, if you'd like to teach them a leason.

She's a bit cheap for what she does, but considering she's relatively easy to kill and everything else in the army is noticeably overcosted or lacking in capability, I wouldn't worry about it even in friendly games. I wouldn't have a problem playing against her in almost any environment.

I wouldn't say she is OP. I run her all the time. I will say she is very undercosted and a game changer if you maker her your warlord. She is very good for what she does. If you purchase her Hit and Run and some bodies (i.e. Seraphim) she is even crazier.
Take her in your tournament list. Automatically Appended Next Post: and @OP: Really, people are grumbling about St Celestine with all the other things in the game. lol.

Thanks for the feedback, everyone!
Out of curiosity, has anyone tried using the Canoness at all? I ran her plenty of times in 5th, and found that she really shines as part of a Celestian squad (since their combined Acts of Faith go so well together). Unfortunately, I have yet to try her in 6th, and the inability to assault from stationary Rhinos (I STILL think that's a stupid rule) means that the Celestian/Canoness tag team is a little less effective now.

Canoness is overcosted and under statted. Her Faith ability is only good to H2H, where she is rather lackluster.
The Celestian Command Squad might be good in H2H but was given a shooting power.
Celestians got the H2H power and aren't equipped for it.
Overall, leave her at home and take Celestine or Jacobus/Uriah.

Doesn't work.
If she's in a squad of Seraphim, she H&Rs.
If she dies to you, she comes back.
If she kills your dude and he removes her, she still comes back.

With 2 attacks each and potential strength 4 (as well as possible Preferred Enemy and Initiative 4 from the Canoness), I'd say they actually have some decent combat potential in spite of just having bolters. But I see where you're coming from.

Also, she has a jump pack. She can easily just avoid Crowe all game and go kill his buddies.

So basically you are saying that for all of those points, you get someone who is almost as good as a grey hunter in hand to hand without any power weapons except the Canoness. I'll pass.
Better to take Jacobus, 4 Crusaders and 6 DCA for less points and walk them across the board.

Again, though, if she's with Seraphim, she can just hit and run away. Or she can just avoid Crowe/the Brotherhood Champ all game with her superior mobility.

There is no such thing as too good for tourney play.
Some lists may not be fun to play against, but going to a tournament isn't about fun. It's about winning.
Which is exactly why I don't go to tournaments.

I would have been pissed if you got her as an ally with minimal cost troops and seraphim squad to your grey knights army, but as a sisters player-go ahead.
Its not that the ar,y is filled with good options. the majoerty of the "codex" is useless or subpar, I dont think anything there except her and the seraphim themselves is actually GOOD, its all "ok" at best, so you might as well take what you get.

A couple things.
One, I'm running BSS, Celestine, Rets and Seraphim with my SW for a tournament this month. Prepare to be pissed.
Two, Rets, Exorcists, Dominions and Conclaves are all good choices with Doms and Exos being excellent. The army is in a very good place right now.

Tournaments work by different rules then friednly games, its annoying to face WAAC, but not "pass the game" level of annoyance, as your own list is probably more WAAC the you usually play as well.
As for Rets, exorcists, dominions and conclaves-sure they are nice and all, but they are not paladins and wraiths.

Thing is, in the last tournament I played, none of the lists were horribly competetive. There were no flyers (or massed flyers), no gunlines or Razorspam, and definitely no multi-wound shock troops. Mind you, though, it was only a 1000 pt tournie.
As for Rets, exorcists, dominions and conclaves-sure they are nice and all, but they are not paladins and wraiths.
Our only other "OMG Amazing" option was Uriah Jacobus + Death Cult Assassins...and that got slightly gimped by 6th ed transport rules (at least for me, anyway).

St. Celestine is one of the most unbalanced models in the game. That said, comp scores don't exist anymore, and I personally would be fine with playing against her in a competitive event-- just get ready for some groans from opponents who know what she can do.

Nah, but they eat paladins and wraiths for breakfast.
Paladins and Wraiths are two units that I am completely unafraid of in my SoB army. I had a lot of success with a full conclave + uriah behind an aegis. Super durable with 4 crusaders plus aegis plus FNP and Uriah is BS5. And if you need to, you can break off the Conclave to go eat something's face. Pretty cheap for what it is as well. 150 for 10 guys, plus Jacobus (90).
