Thanks. I guess I am being overly critical. I'm still not really satisfied with it. Maybe after weathering it will look better. I used the tried and true sponge technique but was a bit too heavy with the sponge.

what sized rivets were those you used from tichy train? Im sort of looking for some that could be used on marine models and things but the sizing always confuses me.

Round. But you can get the hex head bolts that are flat top, but they are fairly large for the scale. So really only useable on certain heavy duty armor plates on tanks and the like.
GW uses fairly large studs on the marine armor. I don't they Tichy makes anything quite that big in the round top rivets. But I think making your own studded armor using the .5 or even the .4 would look pretty darn good.

That vehicle is great! In order to make that siege shield convincing and as epic it deserves you just have two things to change:
1. those chips need a border. first make an area of grey (the layer of undercoat paint) then a smaller area of chestnut brown inside it (rust). THEN finish it with an even smaller patch of bare metal inside. In the end you have quite realistic pieces of paint pelted away.
2. Think how the shield is scratched when in use. Make the lower edge nearly comletely free of paint, then work from there upwards. Make the chips and dents follow streaks and scratches from down there upwards. There can be scratches of just brown or black too, where the paint is scratched but not completely removed. The edge of the riveted border needs some epmphasis on the inner side, too, because there will be a lot of scratching. That should help a lot. Then in the end you can apply some flakey mud by mixing brownish grey paint with bird sand and layering it into the recesses along the edge. The trick is always to think "What has happened there" when aging and weathering something.

Thanks for the tips. I thought about the bordering as you described, but I am worried about my ability to execute it. I will give it a shot somewhere else on the model and if I can pull it off I will try it on the blade.

Don't worry about the execution. The human eye isn't very good, most of your eyesight is the brain comparing the picture with familiar structures. In other words, the brain sees what it wants to see, thus the eye is easily deceived. Think of Bob Ross and his "happy little accidents". Let them things happen. You will see... I am sorry that I have no chance to make digital fotos, otherwise I would post you a pic of my wrecker tank rhino dozerblade and loading bay to show you what I mean. Just follow the flow of the (imaginary) debris and everything else will come together by themselves.
