A lil question if it's' alright: the hranfmanns are on 60mm bases. Sounds big. I can't find any comparison picture to a regular 28mm human on the net, though. It's not the easiest name to google They're probably too big for the idea I just had, but if anyone can help me with a pic that'd be ace!

Well, the Atalantes have a declining population and use gun-like weapons, so....

"The 75mm gun is firing. The 37mm gun is firing, but is traversed round the wrong way. The Browning is jammed. I am saying "Driver, advance." and the driver, who can't hear me, is reversing. And as I look over the top of the turret and see twelve enemy tanks fifty yards away, someone hands me a cheese sandwich."

Old hands have probably read similar before but for newer converts and casual visitors a brief rundown of the Darklands kindreds

Creator Mierce Miniatures 38 minutes ago

@Count - sure...

The Byzantii would have some friends amongst the eastern and north African lands, but in terms of northwest Europe - well, none.

The Fomoraic are not demons - they are natural creatures. The only demons in Darklands are the Infernii.

So the Érainn, whilst knowing the Byzantii/Infernii are a threat, would view the Fomoraic as their main threat, as they're on Eriu's doorstep...

In terms of the other kindreds, it's relatively straightforward.

The Albainn, Brythoniaid and Érainn are three sides of the same coin; Christianity is there but because the One God has not managed to keep their enemies at bay - particularly the Norse and the Fomoraic - the old ways are coming back. Hence Oghu, the Dragons and Danu for those three respectively. So those three are often allies, but will fight each other without a thought. The "Celtics" view anybody else as a major threat, but typically do not invade other lands - they just raid, like everybody else does.

The Fomoraic view everyone and everything above the water as ripe for the picking, and so will invade wherever they can.

The Anglecynn are split into two groups - the pagan Angles (Mierce, Beornica, Dēra, Eofora) and the Christian Angles (Northumbraland and whenever the Eoforas need to be). The pagan Angles will always look after each other and hate the Northumbrians for what they have done to the Beornice and Deore - effectively, paganism and of course shape-shifters are persecuted north of the Humber. The Jutes will always ally with the Angles and vice versa as they are all pagans. A quirk of history means that the Miercna will ally with the Brythoniaid (usually against the Northumbrians).

The Seaxans (Wesseax/Susseax/Esseax), like the Northumbrians, are the most Christian of the lot, now the Franks are under the sway of the Ysians. They are devout and will persecute any form of paganism.

The Ysians are once-Britons; when the Seaxans split them off from the Britons in Wales, they appealed to them for help but the Welsh failed to help them so now they follow one of the old gods - Kernunnos, the Horned God. They became Drunes over time and migrated to Brittany (northwest of France), where Ys lies. Ker-Ys is a legendary city that apparently became the model for Par-Ys... Paris. Under which are the Vras... who they ally with, along with the Franks, who have slowly been infiltrated by the Horned God over the years. It doesn't help that the Franks (effectively a Germanic tribe, so shape-shifters) have a very weak king. (historical truth).

The Byzantii and Infernii are re-conquering the west now that they have shaken off the Nailed God. Believing they lost the west because of that faith, the Emperor has turned to its opposite for power - Dis. I've kind of already explained their symbiotic relationship...

The Norse are just in it for the plunder to be honest. They want to raid and pillage and maybe eventually settle. In our setting the Norse are about 150 years ahead of the first accepted viking raids, but some lands in Northumbria were paying tribute to Norse kings way before that...

The Atalantes and Khthones have a special relationship; the Atalantes created the Khthones to do their menial things, the Khthones had enough of that after a few thousands years and the current rebellion - led by Ophios - is one the Atalantes have not managed to put down as they are very few in number. Atalantia is crumbling into the sea, so they are both raiding the lands to the east to attempt to settle, and the Ice Sheet is nearing its northern isles too, so they both want to leave and stay at the same time...

The rest of the darklands hear of rather a lot of wealth in Atalantia - gold, silver etc. - and will often raid there.

That is a very quick, simple rundown of race relations in the darklands around 650AD...

Very, very kind of you, razormage. And helpful. The Orc with the amazing paintjob is a nice bonus. As is the Ogre's Duffman-hip-thrust pose

So they WOULD work as griffons for Hordes on a 40 mm base. But it'd be a pain to get them into b2b.

I imagine this one will see a significant boost once the "Goat-Eater Incentive" is revealed on Monday.

But with will it be enough, and will there be enough time left, to get us pas the all important £50K goal?

I hope so - as I know I'll most likely be upping my pledge significantly once it hits!

Some new postings for thee:

£17,500 - Maari, Reiver Witch

We've unlocked another starter host and so let's celebrate with another stretch goal, which is just around the corner at £17,500. It's for Maari, a Reiver Witch for the Fomoraic!

Maari is a Reiver Witch, a sorcerer of the Fomoraic as well as a strong warrior in her own right, wielding a Staff of the Ice and a war cleaver to take the fight to the enemy. Maari will stand around 30mm to the eye on a 30mm base and is an Uncommon, Wild Warchief of the Fomoraic.

Increase your pledge by £6 (metal) or £10 (resin) to purchase Maari!
Saairen Maari, Reiver Witch

Maari was once a Melusine, a beautiful and beguiling warrior of the Ysians, until the power of Baalor turned her to his influence. Even though her days as a siren are gone, she still prefers to fight as she once did for the skills she learned stand her in good stead under the Eye.

Saairen Maari is strictly project exclusive and will only be available for a short time after this project ends. Increase your pledge by £10 (metal) or £15 (resin) to purchase Saairen Maari!

Loving the background info. Will we ever see (or have I missed) any sort of divine or angelic model? Something as a counter to the Infernii monsters popping up everywhere.

There was the odd hint a while back on 'Nasty Angels'. What Kindred or if they are still planned for, I don't know.

We've seen the nun and the crazy hermit/priest type, and there was mention of a Bishop for the Wessaex, but I haven't heard any hints yet about actual divine models - I guess it depends how much the Christian God backs up his followers in the Darklands setting...

Morning folks,

So yesterday myself and a couple friends headed down to Mierce Towers to meet Rob (and briefly Tim) and get a feel for the game.

As we walked in, nerd heaven came to mind! Tonnes of minis everywhere, including many of the professionally painted copies in display cabinets and game ready examples with no paint on them.

I have to say, seeing so many Mierce minis in one place and as cohesive 'collections' looks beyond fantastic. Funnily enough, I'm now very sold on some minis I really wasn't before; Maallolvor, Vaak, Praach for example. Breathtaking minis.

We also had a little tour of the casting and mould making areas, very cool, including seeing some of the metals for the first time, phenomenal detail and quality on those.

The main thing we went down for was the game intro. Ben went up first for a basic intro with a chief and unit (Gorgonarch and 4 Gorgorar vs an Ysian chief and four brutes).

In the first hour, the brutes being frenzied ran full pace across the board in their first round. Kthones under attack orders attempted to counter change only to fall short and be charged in the second hour.

My first lesson in the nuances of the game. The brutes charged the Gorgorar, but reached the Gorgonarch too, drawing in the powerful chief.

The brutes bounced, and with the Gorgonarch tilting the balance on the counter attack, left one brute standing. Three brutes dead, one Gorgorar dead. The remaining brute then flayed himself due to being unstable, and
the Ysian chief couldn't sway things back in his favour. All in all a nice little fist fight to get dice rolling and our gaming heads on.

Next up was me with my 1800gold muster I'd created for the Sheffield Slaughter next week. My host is a pure Infernii one:
Servile Champion of Dis
5x Fiends of Dis with champion and Banner
5x Fiends of Dis with champion and Banner
Allied Magus Infernum
(I hadn't realised spells are bought with the recent muster updates so after a discussion we both gained a couple of spells that pushed our gold value over 1800, but not by much.

Rob's Ysians were something along the lines of
Chief Drune
10x Ax Drunes
Seer Drune
10x Bow Drunes
5x Brutes
5x Brutes
Druc the meat hulk giant
(Those who know Ysians better than me will hopefully make sense of the above)

Rob deployed in a fairly straight line, left to right facing me the bow drunes with seer, druc, brutes, ax drunes with chief, second brutes.
There was only one piece of terrain that made any difference and that was a pond in front of the bow drunes and druc.

Memory is hazy as there was a lot to take in so this will be more of a summary than an actual report!

Rob gained the initiative, and with me feeling very outnumbered the two brute units and Druc under attack orders pressed forward.
My fiends under attack orders went their full distance too, with Malacant the Champion behind the front line.

Still in the first hour, Rob then performed a very cheeky little manouvre with his seer drune; casting a spell that forces Druc to immediately charge even though he'd already activated! Druc rolls a 1 for terrain hindrance and crashes into a Fiend and proceeds to maul.

Luckily, my saving rolls were full of 9's and very lucky. Not a single fiend fell this hour! In response, the unit piled in and dropped Druc like the sack of meat he is. Not going to lie, the surprise charge was worrying, but my lads took it on the chin like the true demonic warriors they are.

Rob won the initiative for the second hour and immediately his frenzied Brutes charged. I don't like Brutes. They cause sticky corrosion damage and make a right mess. Their first charge killed a Fiend outright and put out corrosion onto another. At this point I was considering activating my non engaged
fiends in order to get the charge into the second Brute unit since the first was engaged anyway. A quick explanation of consolidatio and counterattacking changed my mind, instead choosing to use a Fiend to block the second brute unit from getting anywhere near Malacant.
The combat that ensued was pretty bloodthirsty. Three brutes died along with two Fiends. If I remember right, I wont that combat resolution but the Brutes stood there and flayed themselves a bit just getting frustrated.

On the left, a volley of arrows hit Malacant but his awesome armour repelled all but two thanks to that shield of his. My left fiend unit then charged into the Brutes and with a huge pile of dice in my hand I....flopped. Might have killed one brute, but dice abandoned both of us for this combat.
I believe I failed this combat resolution but due to being drilled the Fiends didn't care. Expecting to be aggressively out flanked at this point but the chief and Ax Drunes reposition ready to pile into any gaps created. Malacant then goes charging into a single brute and does nothing. Damn dice!
Speaking of damn dice, it's around this time that the Seer Drune manages to cut himself a little too deep and bleed out on the floor a pathetic failure. Har har.

In the third hour, it is feeling like I have weathered the numbers and bit but it is still a slog match. I then noticed Rob had placed his chief somewhere a little too close to Malacant. Naturally I go for the throat.
Taking a hit from a Brute for leaving melee (5 wounds or so) Malacant lands right next to the chief and summarily executes him in one big swing of his axe! He then proceeds to run down the Ax Drunes almost to the table edge, they went 19", I went 18".

At this point we called it, Malacant would almost certainly run the Drunes down and the Brutes were looking worse for wear especially without any officers left on the table.

Not being biased at all by the fact that technically I won (wasn't diced at all ) I have to say I really enjoyed the game.

It feels comparative to Warmachine but that's the main game I play so others may not draw the same conclusion. The book is written to be played, not read, which I like. The game flows well, lots of player interaction handling piles of dice to one another and D10's are refreshingly different.
The basics are simple to learn and likely will be tough to master. Plenty of nuances and decisions to make in game, I can see this is going to be good. Even potential for a solid tournament game and story telling campaign system.

Thanks Rob, it was great fun to meet and have that intro. Now to devour the rules ready for the weekend

New stretch!

300 backers - Golgog Goat-Eater

Maari is not far away so let's get to her with something very awesome - Golgog Goat-Eater, an Albainn Freebooter Oghur Captain that gives you free monstrous infantry when you purchase him!

Golgog Goat-Eater is a mighty sell-sword, a Freebooter Captain who lusts for the joys of battle and the taking of heads, as well as a bit of goat-eating on the side. Able to hire murderous monstrous infantry from any kindred in his personal warband, lured by Golgog's promises of gold, blood and the eating of chevon, Golgog can bring an allied command that certainly packs a punch!

Golgog can be fielded in two ways - as a sell-sword commander, bringing a command with him that includes any miniatures from the Freebooter Monstrous Infantry List below, or as a sell-sword individual on his own, perhaps to be a general's bodyguard or simply because he's awesome - or maybe because you're fighting Gabrax, so he's assured of a good dinner.

Bear in mind that allied contingents are limited to a third of the gold size of your host, so if your host is 2,000 gold strong you have 666 gold to spend on Golgog and his mates.

FREE MONSTROUS INFANTRY!

If you purchase Golgog during this project - and if we get to 300 backers - you will also gain yourself some free monstrous infantry, chosen from the list below.
• For every full £100 pledged, backers get any one monstrous infantry miniature based on 50mm, whichever you'd like of the same kin as those in list 1 below.
• For every full £120 pledged, backers get any one monstrous infantry miniature based on 60mm, whichever you'd like of the same kin as those in list 2 below.
• For every full £160 pledged, backers get any one monstrous infantry miniature based on 80mm, whichever you'd like of the same kin as those in list 3 below.

What you can take for free for your Monstrous Infantry Freebooter Warband is dependent upon your pledge level!

If you pledged £480, you would could get 2 monstrous infantry from list 1 (using £200), one from list 2 (using £120) and one from list 3 (using the remaining £180).

If you pledged £120, you could get 1 monstrous infantry from list 1 or list 2, but not both.

You cannot choose monstrous infantry if you don't have enough of your pledge amount that is not already allocated to a free miniature to do so.

Note that this offer is limited to what you can pledge on this project, here and now, so even if you pledge £100 here and £200 afterwards you will only be entitled to one monstrous infantry miniatures from list 1.
List 1: Albainn Oghurithne, Albainn Oghurithne Hunter, Anglecynn Wælwulf, Brythoniaid Dynwocor, Byzantii Dromedus, Fomoraic Tarvax, Jute Drēaguth, Khthones Gorgórar, Khthones Gorgóraxo
List 2: Albainn Oghur, Albainn Oghurigg, Anglecynn Slēanbera, Atalantes Mesokolossos, Atalantes Toxokolossos, Atalantes Pyrokolossos, Brythoniaid Dyndraig, Érainn Fen Beast, Fomoraic Srónax, Fomoraic Gabrox, Fomoraic Walvax, Infernii Fiend of Dis, Jute Gāst, Khthones Gorgonar, Khthones Hydrar, Khthones Krokodar, Norse Troll, Norse Hrafnmann, Vras Vras-Fiend, Ysian Brute, Ysian Brute Corruptor, Ysian Abhorrent
List 3: Albainn Goghu, Brythoniaid Cocwocor, Byzantii Dromedon, Érainn Bog Beast, Fomoraic Srónox, Fomoraic Maaru, Norse Felltroll, Norse Felljötunn, Norse Gunnhrafn

Note that champions, banner bearers and heralds will be able to act as such in Golgog's warband. Warlords and Warchiefs can still be taken as such if their AUTHORITY is lower than his - which will be 86. If their AUTHORITY is higher than Golgog, they may only be taken as standard warriors of their Kin.

We will do a graphic for this at some point in the next few days; we just wanted to get this stretch goal out to you as quick as we could!

How do I get my Free Monstrous Infantry Freebooter Warband?

All you need do is purchase the Golgog Goat-Eater item from the Mierce Miniatures webstore after the project ends, and let us know how many of each monstrous infantry class you would like in the "special instructions" box when you go through the basket.

Free Monstrous Infantry Freebooter Warband offer is "One per Backer" and strictly limited to the funds you pledge in this project

The Free Monstrous Infantry Freebooter Warband offer is limited to one per backer; you cannot purchase multiple Golgog Goat-Eaters and gain multiple Free Monstrous Infantry Freebooter Warbands.

You can still purchase more than one Golgog if you wish, but you'll only get one free Freebooter Warband of monstrous infantry!

What can't Golgog use?

In game terms, whilst Golgog can only use living monsters within her command, constructs such as the Atalantes' Mesokolossi and the Albainn Goghu are included if you fancy those as your free monstrous infantry. These are listed in italics.

Golgog is a really nice bonus that's basically like an extra 20 - 25% moneyback on top of the quite good deals on the hosts. Malmord the fell troll is 38 normally on their site, you get a free one (or something else in his bracket) for every 160 you spend. Overall, even better than Alix was, since if you place a large order you can end up with multiple figures worth more than the free beast was. Hopefully we can get 140 more backers.

So for the minimum is it £100 + 30 to get a free monstrous infantry miniature?

He's not really doing anything for me to be honest model wise, I've not been a fan of the Albainn range so far.
