I've been thinking, for a while, of a project I want to do for my DA successors is to model up a 'counts as' Belial/Termie Captain. The concept being that the successor chapter I am assembling was gifted some terminator armor relics during the 2nd Founding to help them establish themselves (and that their first Chapter Master was a member of the original Legion's terminator chapter). Since then, of course, most have been lost but the most ancient and holy armors remain in the hands of the chapter's Inner Circle and Deathwing.

With the Horus Heresy stuff coming out and Forgeworld now having the Cataphractii terminators available for purchase, I was wondering what would be the best path of converting him by adding a few DA specific iconography onto him and working at him with some green stuff for robes. I'd like to try my hand at magnetizing the arms to swap lightning claws (which I love the look of the pre-heresy ones) and SS/TH.

Question really being... is it worth the money + shipping to get a full set of the terminators and special weapons just to convert one captain/character model?

Go for it! If you think it is worth it then yes.

I've always found my most interesting conversions to be worth a little added expense, and I dont doubt you would find a way to use the other 4 caterphractii terminators at some point further down the line. Failing that you could quite easily ebay off the other 4 and make back the majority of the cost of your model.

I have 2 incarnations of Beleil and I bet when our dex comes out they will have a mini for him. However it will probably be failcast and at that point I will be glad I made my own. I believe it will be worth what you said. +1

Exactly this.

Why not use them all and use them to reflect counts-as belial and the command squad/banner bearer/apothecary? This way they feel cohesive, feel extra elite, and you can keep all the models for yourself.

Personally, I like the conversions of the astral lions character with 2x claws as a counts as belial with lightning claws and lion shoulder and deathwing.

I've been thinking on that as well. They'd definitely be flavorable and a scary looking unit out on the field. I love how the Cataphractii look.

They don't have the Cataphracti suits up yet, but it's only a matter of time.

I made one before all the new suits were released, did it with the Red Scorpions captain.

Ha ha ha ha, Nice tack job... If only more people would use it before making conversins.... then they would see how uncool the conversions acutally look...

I dont do conversions on marines... Except Chaos obviously. BUT I do magnatize heads and sholder joints. If you were to do the same, you could change the arm and head position and in time swop them out with better ones you find from other manufacturare. You could have a Grey night head and a power claw with the blade and wing sholder pad, and later swop out a chaplin skull mask, with a compi melta on a sholder pad with tons of honors.
