Hey folks,

I haven't posted in a while, but you might remember my army from the forums or from the GW site (http://www.games-workshop.com/gws/content/blogPost.jsp?aId=19700003a).

I'm not happy with my current list as it's proving to be fairly ineffective in the current edition (MSU just isn't what it used to be).

I always ran a counts-as Vulkan/Salamanders list in the past, but I think it's time for a change. I'm open to ideas using any codex really, aside from Chaos. I was thinking SW might be a good fit as they are able to accommodate some of the more fluffier considerations.

Here are the fluff elements I'm keeping in mind:

1. Terminator sergeants leading tac squads (wolfguard are great for this)
2. Ven. Dread HQs (Bjorn? though I'm worried about his survivability in this edition)
3. Few full terminator squads (this fluff annoys me, but whatever)
4. Few dreadnoughts (this also seems unfluffy since IH love bionics and hate their human flesh...many see serving as a dreadnought as their ultimate goal in life)
5. Machine-like behavior (relentless, grinding advance regardless of casualties)
6. Extensive bionics and mechanical augmentations (acute senses? too bad they got rid of the old bionic rules)
7. Iron Fathers (I've given up on this one since no army has a character who comes close to combining the roles of techmarines and chaplains, aside from maybe Cassius and his bionics)

Any ideas? Here are my current models, but I am open to getting new ones/trying out new ideas.

1 counts-as Vulkan
1 MOTF with servo harness, combimelta, and thunder hammer
2 squads of 5 th/ss terminators
2 squads of tac marines - variable special/heavy weapon loadouts. Sergeants have power fist/ combiflamer
5 combimelta sternguard with power fist/combimelta sergeant
3 heavy flamer/multimelta speeders
1 land speeder typhoon with variable loadouts
2 vindicators with hunter killers and rams
2 las/plas razorbacks
2 land raider redeemers/crusaders (magnetized weapons)
3 dreadnoughts with cc weapon/heavy flamer and multimeltas (I can do variable loadouts with these, too)
1 venerable dreadnought (variable loadouts)
1 devastator squad with 4 missile launchers
3 dreadnought drop pods
3 infantry drop pods

Ok, that's it! Let me hear what you all think.

-K

Had an idea using Blood Angels, check it out.

HQ: Captain in Terminator Armour (x1)

Elite: TH/SS Warlord
Terminator Assault Squad (x6)
TH/SS
Land Raider Crusader
Multi-melta

Elite: Sanguinary Priest (x3) power axe terminator armor

Troops:
Tactical Squad (x2)
Flamer; Missile Launcher
Sergeant
Melta Bombs, Plasma Pistol, Power Axe

Heavy Support: Vindicator (x2)

Heavy Support: Devastator Squad (1)
Missile Launcher (x4)
Sergeant
Melta Bombs

Aegis Defense Line(x1)
Quad Gun

It's pretty weird, I'll admit.

The sanguinary priests act as terminator veteran heroes- they join the tac squads and terminator squad and inspire them with their presence (furious charge, fnp).

The Captain leads the terminators and sanguinary priest from within the LRC. I don't know about deep striking the LRC, I was never quite comfortable with that....

The tac squads slog it.

The devs hide behind the aegis and provide fire support - the squad sergeant mans the quad gun.

The vindicators throw out some pie plates to deal with hordes and high toughness troops/terminators. They, of course, can also blast vehicles with the new blast rules.

Feedback welcome!

This is screaming 6 dreads in pods, MOTF and tac squad in 7th pod, rest spent on slogging objective hugging troops to me.

I actually used to play a list similar to that - forgot to include that I have 6 drop pods. I really hated that style as all my dreads would get popped first turn.

Also, IH rarely use dreads (fluff consideration) so 6 dreads seems out of the question.

Since you already have Dreadnought drop-pods from FW, you could get Valthex, he's basically a better MotF. Also he allows 1 infantry unit equipped with bolter, storm-bolter or bolt-pistol to be upgraded with hellfire rounds; absolutely devastating with a full squad of tactical Termies (add Lysander for pure sickness).

This way it would also stay fluffy.

Thanks, that's helpful! Also don't feel bound by my current models, I'm willing to try new builds.

Would be very fun to play!

I would try to shave off a couple of things so you can get the 10th termie with a 2nd CML.

This would be as "Iron Hand" as it would get!

Have fun.

Thanks! I haven't done that since I wanted to fit them all in the LRC, but I guess I could combat squad them?

How would you fit them in the LRC if there are 9 of them anyway? Or did I misread your post?

At that point you might as well get all 10 dudes together + Lysander to benefit from the re-rolls.

Just my 2 cents.

You are correct, there was a mistake here. Would you drop the LRC and let them slog it, or do combat squads and put half in the LRC?

There is iron hands character in badab war book (no 2) iirc.

Could be worth a look...he does give army wide change iirc

I would foot-slog it, if you drop the LRC, it gives you points to spend on:
-a 3rd tact squad and some rhinos?
-a ven-dread with assault cannon to accompany the termies (would be fluffy and a scary approaching line)
-a command squad? (to protect the tact)
-another dev squad and/or TFC?

The world is your oyster!

Cheers! Love the idea of the implacable Iron-Hands.

Another thought if you face a lot of flyer-lists would be to get a Mortis pattern contemptor Dreadnought, with twin Kheres assault cannons and a CML it comes at 215pts. Would look sick in Iron Hands colors, I don't know if they allow FW in your area though...

You could stick it in a reinforced ruin and take out flyers or walk it forward and shred just about anything.

Thanks for all the help, guys!

I could drop the LRC (I have it sitting in a box waiting to be opened ) and take some more dudes- coincidentally I was just looking at the contemptor dread today...

It makes me sad that my LRR just sits around now, as well as my vindicators.

Also, I checked the IA books and could find no trace of any IH characters, thanks for the suggestion, though.

BTW, here are my currently painted miniatures:

Sweet looking army!

Badab war 2 (I think) has a IH character that allows you to take devastator squads as heavy and elite choices, and FNP (if I recall properly) as long as their bionic enhancements are properly represented on the models, which you did an awesome job with!
