So, I've seen a lot of people do magnetizing to get the most out of their armies. So, a few questions!
1. Is Magnetizing easy? I recently purchased a Tau Army, and I feel they would be sweet to have the Devilfish be able to be either Hammerhead or Sky Ray's. This also leads me to ask the Tau players, are the Skyrays like the hammerhead and Devilfish? Just a component that goes into the hole on the top?.
2. Is Magnetizing cheap? I'm VERY short on funds recently. Things just haven't been going my way haha.
3. Could you provide links to tutorials you found helpful when magnetizing?

Magnetising is easy.
Hammerhead Railgun / Ion Cannon / Devilfish / Skyray is also easy and doesn't require magnets!
I'll tell you how tomorrow when not on my phone

1. Is Magnetizing easy?
Which part? Physically drilling a hole, and gluing in a magnet? Cake. Figuring out the best place to put it, or what kind to use....not as much.

Yes, although, they can just friction fit. As a note, the skyray kit comes with the parts to build the fish, hammerhead and skyray...so its the best deal.
2. Is Magnetizing cheap? I'm VERY short on funds recently. Things just haven't been going my way haha.
Cheap is very subjective. Get good rare earth magnets. You can get them online (I like k&j magnetics) or at some hobby places.
Small magnets (I use 1/8" round for most applications) are less than 10 cents each.
You will also want a small hand drill...
3. Could you provide links to tutorials you found helpful when magnetizing?
There are many here (search) and on the net (google) and on youtube (search).
I have a tau army, and I have magnetized many of the models;
Here are some tips;
Crisis suits:
Magnets in the outside of the "hands". Magnets in all of the weapons.
Well, not all of them...I don't run burst cannons.
I also put magents on some of the shoulders so I can mount weapons there too.
I use 1/8" diameter magnets for these.
Its a bit overkill, but gives a good solid connection.
All are same polarity, so I an mount any weapon anywhere.
Stealth Teams:
Magnet for a fusion blaster on the sgt.
Magnet on the backpack of the sgt for his drone controller.
I use 1/8" diameter magnets for these.
Piranha
Magnetized the chin turret, although, over time I realize I never run the burst cannon variety.
Fish:
Magnetized the chin turret, so can be weapon (burst cannon) or sensor part when running HH.
A couple of ways to do this....look around.
HH
Chin turret as fish.
Main turret, magnitized the weapon mount - so can be either railgun or ion cannon.
WIll need to shave mount flat, then fill gun part with putty to mount magnets.
Used 1/4" magnets
SKYRAY
Chin the same as others.
Put small magnets in seekers and missile racks. Used 1/8".
Broadsides:
Arms and shoulers, so I can convert to crisis as needed.
I used bigger rectangular magnets on the shoulders, that way the railguns don't move around a lot.
ALL Skimmers:
magnetized bottoms for mounting on flight stands.
This is a bit more work...I used 1/4" acrylic rod, and 1/4" magnets on bottoms of hulls.
I use magnets for my other armies as well, its fun and you will learn by doing.....
best of luck!
pak out.

If, like me, you can;t be bothered with lots of drilling, try and find some 0.5mm thick magnets and surface mount them. Much easier

I'd go w/ the surface mounting too like Flinty said. I've done it both ways on my Tau and drilling them all out is for the birds. Looks nicer yeah, but more time consuming. I also only ever did my xv8's. I got all mine from amazing magnets online. You should check them out. Best of luck!!

Right: First thing, when magnetising, use a magnet in the mounting surface, and a PAPERCLIP in the options. That way you don't need to worry about getting the polarity on the magnets right, and save a boatload of money.
Next - for the Hammerhead / Skyray Turrets, you can easily just stick the turret in and be done with it - just don't glue the locking lug to the bottom of the Skyray turret.
To make the Railgun / Ion Cannon interchangeable, the Ion Cannon needs a little bit of sprue sticking in the hole,
then, in the center of both, drill a hole and stick in a paperclip, cut the paperclip off flush to the base of the weapon.
Then drill a hole in the center of the weapon mount on the turret.
You can now switch your Hammerhead weapons with impunity. They'll even move up and down.
I'll add pictures later!

I was thinking about going the paper clip route my self. How did you mount the paper clip?

Kind of like this:
The top of the Railgun is thick enough to mount as-is.
The top of the Ion-Cannon is thin, and needs a bit of sprue glued in.
As for the alt-side of the magnet - drill 1-3 holes (depending on how heavy it is) and slot some paperclip in where the magnet wants to attach to.
I did it for my Razorwing (5 mounting magnets, 13 different options), Autarch (2 backpacks / 3 arms, with 3 magnets.) Stealth Suits (4 magnets, 6 options.). I'm sure I've done something else too, but can't remember what it is. xD
Going to be magnetising my Battlesuits (currently I use 2 paperclips that slot into 2 holes on the suit.). My Forgefiend, Defiler, Heldrake and such will be magnetised too.

I magnetized my battlesuits by designating one weapon as my template, and using it to attach all the magnets for the suits. I drilled suitably deep holes in the arms and shoulders, stuck a loose magnet to the magnet in the weapon, put a tiny amount of glue in the hole on the suit, and used the weapon to push the new magnet in. If you use this method, make sure you slide the template weapon off rather than pull straight out or you may pull the magnet right back out of the battlesuit.
Also, 1/8" magnets are good for most weapons, but I find 1/10" magnets are better for some of the smaller bits, like the multi-tracker, target locks, and seeker missiles.

I like the paper clip idea, these "surface magnets" they are just really thin and glue on to where you would normally drill magnets?

I just finished magnetizing my crisis suits. It is very easy to do. If you want cheap magnets go on ebay, you can get them from Asia for the cheapest but it may take a while to get to you. As for how do do it. I used 1/8'' magnets on the arms and shoulders, I then used 1/16'' magnets for the weapons. The 1/8'' magnets are just too large for some of the weapons and if you do stealth suits you will need the 1/16'' magnet because their arms are so thin. I also used the 1/16'' magnets for my hammer head for sensor spines, target arrays and seeker missiles. I do not suggest doing it for the rain gun though. The turrets themselves can just be picked up and put on and need nothing to hold them in place.
Here is a look at my crisis suits and you can see the magnets. I suggest getting the 1/8'' magnets because they are sooo much stronger than the 1/16'' but the 1/16'' magnets are necessary for smaller things like guns.

Here is a good shot of one of my suits with surface mount magnets. There is a visible gap, but you really don't notice it much, even when face on life the palsma rifle mount. The missile pod mount is pretty near invisible as its underneath the weapon.
I also prefer 2x square magnets as it can help prevent the weapon spinning round too much in play, which is a risk with single magnet mounts.

In regards to the hammerhead/Devilfish.
I have been informed tha these http://www.forgeworld.co.uk/Warhammer-40000/Tau/TAU-VEHICLES/TAU-HAMMERHEAD-TWIN-LINKED-BURST-CANNON-TURRET.html use the same mounting interface as the Railgun and ion cannon.
So build your hh/df with the sensor instead of the burst cannon and grab a few of these and you can swap between models just by swapping what's on the turret. Swap out the turret and you have a Skyray.
If I was starting over again this is exactly what I would have done.
While you are at it, you now have some twin turrets you could also place on top and then sink on a pair of ion cannons and pretend you have a twin plasma or twin fusion Hammerhead.
