In what might be an all new first, Freebooter Miniatures (http://www.freebooterminiatures.de/), run by Werner Klocke (of GW, PP, Malifaux and many more), is having an Indiegogo campaign only to offer limited edition miniatures. Its not to build a bigger business, its not to start a new line, and the minis being created are going to only be offered by the Indiegogo.

http://www.indiegogo.com/FreebooterLegends?a=1421553

Certainly a major campaign for those that play Freebooter's Fate, but this is also HUGE for mini collectors anywhere. Currently, the deal is for 5 minis that most likely will only available at the Indiegogo, but a 6th has already become available (and IS only available for the Indiegogo). Add-ons for the 5 models have also been included at some levels. Art is shown for all 6 minis, 2 greens have been shown, and a 7th silhouette is shown as well.

The campaign was successfully funded in 28 hours. And there are still 28 days to go, with more add-ons already announced and others certainly coming. This is a no-fret deal of completely collectable minis.

I was wondering when someone would get around to promoting this.

Freebooter's Fate minis are IMO the nicest around (or at the very least, among the nicest) and are something a great painter can really show off with.

Not that any of that applies to me, but I still slowly muddle through painting my collection. And I certainly jumped to support this (Funder #14!). The rulebooks/rules are very nice too (I bought them even though I don't play).

I was looking forward to/dreading the almost inevitable announcement as I'm pretty sure Freebooter Miniatures was the last of the mini companies to have NOT done a Kickstarter. *sigh*

Oh well. It's going to be an exciting month!

Last night, the campaign went from $7,500 to now $11,200. Two stretch goals were met on the way, and a third was unveiled.

Feathered Serpent pet (individual model with stats, base, and card):

Skeletal Powder Monkey (not an individual model, but an addition to the base of one of the ltd editions):

Next stretch goal; head options for the ltd model set:

6 minis for $100?

I know they'll add more, but man, that is a rough deal from the start.

Oh well, as long as the fans/ people with a keen eye on ebay reselling want it.. I guess it's worth doing, it be stupid not to go ahead and make the money.

Just strikes me as a bit of a waste putting all this talent into something so closed-off, is all.. I get the collector angle and can see why it makes profitable sense for a small company, it just doesn't sit well with me.. I'm just very glad I don't have any particular attachment to the company and therefore I don't have any compulsion/ need to have all of the limited editions.

And of course, the head options will make people want to buy at least 2x all the miniatures to properly get all of the uniques and fulfil completionist desires.

Sadly - Freebooter minis are pretty pricey - so 6 for $100 (or slightly over $16 a pop) isn't much different than normal. Though I'm assuming the pot will be sweetened some too. A Reaper or Mantic Kickstarter it ain't. More in line with the Bombshell one.

And I did notice the whole - "Hey you have an extra set of arms and heads now - why not buy two?" - It's tempting - but given how slowly I paint Freebooter minis, I don't think I'l ever be wanting to paint a duplicate of any. They are small enough magnetizing anything will be difficult too. The arms could probably be swappable with a deep pin though. Maybe the heads too - depending on how they fit in.

I'll probably just be picking my favorite head/arm combo and then regretting it later!

Hello,
I actually am not a fan of pirate type games or minis. However I love their "Amazon" looking ones. Their Victorian ones er not to bad either, but at the current price point I just can not make that leap yet.

No, spraying three colors on your minis does not count as painted! 5k+

Second head stretch goals met already (over $4000 yesterday). The next stretch goal is announced for $20,000: the 7th model for the set.

I agree that $16 per model, even limited edition, REALLY pushes the limit on a Kickstarter/Indiegogo campaign. Even with the additional pieces to the models (and, the arms, pets and heads are a nice touch, but I am not getting a second set for 'completeness.')

But, Werner has already heavily hinted at the idea that there will be 10 models in the complete set (10 year anniversary...). If that comes to pass, that's 10 models, with a healthy set of bonus material, for $100. Hope that comes to pass.

These look interesting. Went to look at the rules for the actual game and apparently those were limited edition too. Seems to be OOS everywhere I looked (and, well, I don't care enough to screw around with international shipping.) Still, it's nice to see some pirate love instead of zombies.

Freebooter's Fate rules are certainly NOT limited edition. You can order those from many locations.

I'm hoping for the 10 model set - but even if it's not - these are awesome models sculpted by Werner and I'm pretty sure I won't be disappointed with the finished products. Anyway I have to have them to add to my Freebooter's fate crews, the game is great fun and as there only a release for most crews each month it doesn't exactly break the bank. Sort of a MUST--have (apart from the Goblin) as it's one of my favorite "beer and pretzel" games.

How do you expect me to know what it is if you haven't painted it! Unpainted models are just proxies for the real thing

They updated the campaign with a new perk level.

"Codex ($90)
NEW! You will receive the Freebooter's Fate Rulebook (German or English), a set of Freebooter’s Fate playing cards, a starter set for the crew of your choice, and one Legendary Character from the Deckhand level perk. This set will not benefit from any stretch goals reached during the campaign; you will only receive the basic miniature. FREE shipping worldwide! This perk level will only be available during this campaign."

This is a great deal if you're a new player looking to pick up the game. Particularly for the Goblin faction (they have more models in their starter set, and thus it's a little pricier).

To quote myself from another forum

"Prices listed are from the Warstore:
Rulebook $31
Cards $11
Starter $36 ($48 for goblins!)
Deckhand $16
shipping $06
= $100 total (non goblin). $112 Goblins.

The same order at Maelstrom Games (assuming they were still a functioning store) would work out to ~$101, with free shipping."

In addition - the next stretch goal is up - some new melee variant arms for the Legends. Which will be very variably apparently.

Now at $28,500. The next model will be added the the $100 pledge is an independent goblin assistant. When included, that will be 7 individual models, 5 "legends" with alternate heads and 2 alternate arms, as well as 2 support models.

Hmm, they talked of a mid-point surprise - and they must have meant this:

They threw in the "helper" to the Raven Queen, meanwhile the Arm upgrade pack has been met. Interestingly, they seem to have extended the blank space of the captain pledge another row too. So maybe there'll be more stretch goals to add to the pile of Captain booty than it had seemed at first (we were getting down to the last row).

Only Antoinette is missing her companion now. Beyond that who knows what is coming.

Cebo is in as a freebie - up next are some more accessories for the Captain perk level.

Not been updated yet to see what comes after that. I'm eager to see.

Next stretch goal revealed: It's a drunken monkey! Hooray! He (she?) is Antoinette's companion.

That brings the total number of miniatures in the captain perk to 11. Or just a tad over $9 a piece - a much better deal than it started out as. Plus a host of bits to customize them.
And, if things go well, two more rows of freebies to be added to the Captain perk it looks like.

40K stretch goal reached! On to drunken monkeys!

Next stretch goal revealed -

Papa Houngan

It actually doesn't say what faction he is to be for. But I feel pretty comfortable assuming he's from the new Voodoo Cult faction.

I... am an idiot.

I didn't properly grasp that unlike Kickstarter, Indiegogo you pay up front and you just buy additional components each time - so now I have 2 Captain perks.

If anyone in the UK wants a Captain level perk (just Captain, no extras) PM me and we can discuss.

Flew past the last new stretch goal of more bits.

Now we have:

Upgrade pack for Papa Houngan:

A mini cannon!

At 65k and 70k resepectively.

60 hours to go! A lot of these perks are great deals, or Indiegogo exclusives. So fence sitters better start deciding soon.

Latest (quite possibly last) stretch goal announced.

The upgrade/alternative weapon bits for the last "Legend" - the bounty hunter Chassa.

Just over 24 hours to go. I think the Chassa bits will make it np - but it'd be nice to see if we could squeeze one more thing in after that

Last chance to get a lot of this stuff. Especially for this price.

So torn on this. I'm disappointed, a bit, that so many of the goals apply to Deckhand Minis that aren't included in the captain level but are in fact add ons.

I don't have a starter yet either, so I've been contemplating jumping in for the legends and the starter package. Just can't decode which faction I'd like. Thoughts?

Well, the deckhands will be available for ~ a year, and will include the update bits. So you'll have time to pick them up later. (They'll be more expensive though). The Captain perk bits are only available now though.

If you don't have any FF stuff, the codex perk is a great deal (see math above in the thread).

As for which faction you should get, I can't you help there. I own three myself, but have designs on the other two. (Especially now that I'll have the legends of each faction!).

A very quick breakdown based on play style would be:
Pirates - all arounders
Imperials - shooty
Brotherhood - stabby, sneaky
Goblins - numbers, "crazy" stuff
Amazons - uhm, are a bit trickier to classify. A lot of movement/terrain type tricks. I guess maybe you could call them "speedy." ?
