The difference for me is two things, I only have c:sm so that's what I use. Secondly I don't care if its not 100% optimal. I'll use what I want to use. My OCD only kick in for he modeling and painting aspect of the hobby. As far as the game goes I'm just thrilled to see my models on the field after all the hard work I put into them.

I suppose I should say this since I haven't seen anyone else say it yet...

Because I like the Ultramarines and I want to use an ultramarine codex.

But why? Why not play Ultramarines using the GK codex?

There is no such thing as a hobby without politics. "Leave politics at the door" is itself a political statement, an endorsement of the status quo and an attempt to silence dissenting voices.

Because the Emperor or Guillman would probably rise from the grave and smite me for using non-sanctioned equipment... The Inquisitors would hunt me down as a heretic.

Because deep down inside I'd feel dirty for using the wrong codex. The Space Marine codex tells Our story, it really feels like an Ultramarine codex.

Wow! Ultramarine hate, how original! You must be super cool and smart to have thought to do that!

I personally use the standard Codex because I never have chosen a prebuilt chapter. I created my own codex chapter and find that the material presented there is much better for me since my chapter is not based off of any of the specific chapters mentioned by the original poster.

Absolutely nothing is stopping you from making your own chapter and using the Space Wolf, Blood Angel, Dark Angel or Black Templar codices. They simply represent different archetypes of the Space Marine theme.

But the space wolves doesnt give you anyway to create your own because it is split in x great companies. no more no less.
