Hello,

I am just starting out in war machines and have decided to go with cryxs. I was hoping for some advice to how to build my army. What units work well together. Also any advice on tactics or how to play the army? I was thinking of going with goreshade nd maybe themeing the army to get one of the bonuses. Any advice would be greatly apprictated.

Thanks.

We have a warmachine subforum, which would probably have more people that could help than posting it in general discussions. Maybe a mod could move the thread there for you.

The Cryx starter box along with a box of Deathrippers and a box of Defilers.
From there a Desecrator or 2 and some mechanithralls and some satyxis raiders.

Free from GW's tyranny and the hobby is looking better for it

This post has also been made in the Warmachine lists bit so I've replied to that one.

But I slightly disagree with you master of ordinance. The battlebox is a great place to start Cryx as a whole but Ryloth is interested in Goreshade and neither version really fancies what's in the battlebox. Skarre1 or Asphyxious1 and I'd be with you.

Also why the extra boxes of Deathrippers and Defilers? It would be far better to spend that money on the Nightwretches and Ripjaws. Then he'll have at least one of each type of arc node yet still the same point score. Why the Desecrator? Banes (of any sort) make it really hum along with the free allocation of focus yet you recommend Mechanithralls and/or Satyxis.

Yeah, you don't really need more than two of any of the Bone Turkeys. You're better off buying Nightwretchs or Ripjaws.

its warmachine, and cryx.

advice for cryx? heh, stick to stuff thats either blighted, or undead! Or else, mercenaries that will work for the faction!

Honestly, you cant really go wrong with cryx - they have a huge amount of very effective casters (gaspy, denny, skarre, 3 sisters, terminus, skavvy, and so on), units (all of them, bar cephalyx), jacks (most of them), and solos (most of them, but tartarus stands out even amongst cryx's excellent roster of solos). Advice is simple: it can all work.

what units work together and what tactics to use - you can write an encyclopedia on that! warmachine factions are not pigeonholed by one style of play. you can build to play jack heavy, infantry heavy, spell bombing, assassination, attrition, alpha strike, and pretty much everything in between. be more specific in your requests and we can help you more.

Goreshade is fun - nasty feat, especially at small points levels. he's nice but far from the nastiest thing cryx can deal you.

Well, theme armies work for some casters, not so much for others. Generally a theme is worse than non-theme (with some exceptions) as it greatly limits what you can take; you need to think "are these bonuses worth not being able to take X unit or Y solo?"

Seeing as your starting out, keep it simple. Buy the rules, purchase the book/cards, pick a caster you like, and start building a simple 11/15 point list to learn with. For the MOST part, any unit or model works with any caster, its just some are better than others depending what you pick. for example, goreshade works better with banes than, say, eSkarre (though Skarre works well with em' too).

What units/models do you like from the faction? Would help peeps assist you in building a good learning list

Start off at 11-15 point battlebox style games.

Also start by reading battlecollege (they have basics on all the models) and the PP cryx forums (more in depth reviews including a great starter thread with tactics for all the warcasters, units, etc)

Once you have read the basics and played a couple of games come back and ask us more specific questions.

Also read some of the other start threads, including the other cryx ones.
