Here's one of my 2000 point Tyranid tournament lists. Its a little bit different than the normal tournament lists but it can be quite effective. Any feedback is appreciated.

HQ

2 Hive tyrants: Wings, two sets of twin linked brain leech worms, Old adversary: 570

Troops

20 Termagaunts: Devourers: 200

20 Termagaunts: Devourers: 200

Fast attack

30 Gargoyles: 180

30 Gargoyles: 180

30 Gargoyles: 180

Elites

2 Hive Guard 100

2 Hive Guard 100

1 Hive Guard 50

Heavy support

1 Trygon prime: 240

=2000

Tyrants can swoop 12-24 inches per turn and get off at least 9 shots with most if not all of them being wounds. They can also Glance the hell out of any Armor of 12 or lower on vehicles and they only need 3 glances to destroy them.

Devil gaunts provide 120 Strength 4 shots per turn, which will guarantee the deaths of many of your opponents models. Even terminators with their 2+ save have to roll 1's some time. And they only have one wound each so 120 shots a turn sounds like a good infantry killer.

90 gargoyles is just amazing. They are basically regular termigaunts except they have jump infantry, blinding venom, and hammer of wrath for a mere 6 points each, ONLY 1 MORE POINT THAN AN UN UPGRADED TERMAGAUNT! Seriously, if you can afford to take termagaunts, take gargoyles instead, their better in every way. 30 Gargoyles on the charge have 3 attacks each. 2 from the charge, and 1 from the hammer of wrath. 90 CC attacks is pretty damn scary if you ask me, especially since gargoyles have blinding venom which is basically rending.

Hive guard are to take out stronger vehicles consistantly from a range, and they don't need line of sight.

Trygon Prime presents another huge threat for my opponents as well as provides me with another synapse creature. 6 CC attacks that are all ap 2 = awesome. Also, Any non Tyranid player will just shoot everything at it because of how scary it looks, its huge! And if they don't, it'll do alot of damage on its own. It can take down any infantry and any tank and has 12 shots per turn.

Thanks for reading my first post.

I accept and advice or new ideas

And I thought 150 points for 35 FNP Fearless Zombies was nasty. 180 points for those gargoyles is just brutal.

I honestly don't know how I'd deal with that.

I'd find a pod for your devil guants, makes the most out of the devour points.
The gargoyle upgrades are dirt cheap, take them! 25x garg- TS, AG = 200
Nice spread of hive guard, with AG gargoyles you could pop most vehicles so 2x2 should be fine.
It does leave the trygon behind a little. could even DS strike him too! take even more pressure off your guants.

Dev gaunts need to be 30 or in spores

Gargoyles need either AG or TS or both.

I'd also run the HG in groups of 3.

Ygmarl GS can be deadly...

I'm sorry but I don't feel the love for this list

A squad of 1 hive guard?

2 squads of 20 gaunts for troops? is that it?

I don't think your troops are ever going to hold anything here, sorry. A manticore, or a dark eldar razorwing can both almost singlehandedly wipe out your troops in two turns

HQ is good. Sole trygon looks a bit lost on his own. Troops are very weak and hive gaurd will be isolated in such a fast list.

I would also never even consider 90 gargoyles in a tournament setting. How long have you got for each round? 3 hours?

I've been trying to modify the list to the suggestions that I have been reading. The main one is that my troops is too weak, but is 40 gaunts really too weak, or too little, in the face of 90 gargoyles, 5 hive guard, 2 tyrants, and one trygon. I could replace the trygon for 20 more aunts with a spore pod, but that takes a synapse creature out.

Another thing people say is gargoyles need upgrades, but what for? If I upgrade them I have to take alot less. 90 un upgraded gargoyles are 540 points, they have 90 shots, and 270 CC attacks, half of those have a chance at blinding venom. 67 upgraded gargoyles cost 536, they have 67 shots, and 201 CC attacks with about half of those being blinding venom. The toxin sacs auto wound on 4+ so that means constantly more wounds. So is more blinding venom attacks, and more fl good. or more wounds? the 90 garoyals have alot more models = more wounds in CC. What is the beast way to field gargoyles?

And is 40 gaunts too little, and why?

Thanks

Any more suggestions are appreciated.

Don't forget that Trygon Prime's are Monstrous Creatures. That means you're actually firing 18 S5 AP5 shots

Yeah, the list is really killy, but 40 gaunts will go down quick to most stuff, especially without FNP. That leaves you with a much tougher game.

And then some guy throws a manta at the table and promptly breaks it in half sending figures and terrain everywhere.

That list is so overplayed. So uninteresting.

I'd really like to see adrenal glands and toxin sacs on the gargoyles. Other than that, it's interesting to say the least.

The Tervigon is indeed, overplayed, but he's the only survivable troop choice available in objectives games.
This list looks strong, but I don't think any truly competetive Nid list is complete without at least 1 Tervigon in the troops.

Tervigons are overplayed, but, where does it say overplayed is bad? I love tervigons cause they embody the feeling of tyranids, never-ending swarm of gaunts. I wish there was a tervigon for hormagaunts, heck I wish there was some sort of Gene-Queen, to gak out genestealers, It'd make my day, any day.

12 shots. It replaces the 6 shot option I'm afraid.

For a top level GT you need Tervigons, definately. I'dnever bring 3 Tervigons to a friendly game, but they're the single best unit in the book... it's good to have.

And as for the list overall, I love it, time consraints aside. You look perilously low on Synapse however...

Correct me if I'm wrong 30 gars bare = 25.7 gars w/ TS =22.5 Gars w/ TS+AG
30 FB x .5 = 15 hits = 7.5 wounds (T4) = 2.55 kills vs (A3) VS 25 FB x .5 = 12.5hits = 6.25 wounds = 2.06 kills VS 22FB x .5 = 11 hits = 5.5 wounds = 1.83 kills
60AT on charge vs T4 30hits = 10wounds = 3.33kills VS 50AT on charge vs T4 25hits = 12.5 wounds = 4.16 kills VS 44AT on charge VS T4 = 22hits = 16.5 wounds = 5.499 kills

This does not take into account blinding venom.

Honestly, I like the balanced tyranid lists more. 1 unit of 30 gargoyles with all the upgrades is nasty. Shift the rest of the points into Tervigons with your troops and you'll have a pretty nasty list.

The benefit of 90 gargoyles is that flyer lists will be unable to maneuver very well.
