How do you deal with Obliterators when dealing with them in a friendly 1000pt. game?

I would like to add that giving Oblits MoN makes them T5 . So S-8 AP-2 weapons aren't going to be as effective as they would normally be against them. Choices become non-existent for me at 1000 pts with needing scoring units and needing something to take out T5 Oblits that are being supported by] x20 CSM's, x3 Mutilators, and x20Cultists plus HQ. I am new to the game and my original BA list got essentially tabled. Especially after he one shotted my HQ squad with two (non- scattered) PC shots first turn. Poor deployment on my part. Any suggestions? I will post the re-worked 995 Pt. list I built after losing that game upon request. Its how I'm thinking I can be effective. Advice?

Thanks,

Ghost

Stay spread out, opt for cover. A 5+ is better than nada. Remember you get FnP to AP1-2 weapons now, the only thing that denies it is ID. 5+ cover 5+ FNP has decent odds of survival as long as you're spread out alright.

Plasma guns, or melta guns will make short work of the oblits as they only have a 2+5++

S8 Ap2 is still going to be pretty decent as they only have a 5++ save. Even with MoN you'll be wounding on 2's. Plasma seems your best bet for the Oblits and CSM, Flamers for the Cultists, and you could probably just ignore the Mutilators for the better part of the game.

A single BA Libby with Fear of Darkness! (They test at LD6 and might just run off if they are camping near table edge)
lol, on a serious note plamas work.
Vanguards will tie them up for a bit even if they dont kill them.
Vindicator kills them, as well as everything you listed too.

So if I got hit with both those PC blasts I would still get my FnP 5+ save if I failed a cover save of 5+? I'm still learning the system a bit. The PC is S-7 AP-2 so ignored my armor saves. So I would get a cover save of 5+ (I was in cover) and then the FnP 5+?

Thanks for all the feedback everyone!

In the list I have no armor. (I don't have a lot of models with me currently)

Here is the list I will try again with:

-Blood Lance
-Shield of Sangunius

Swap the furioso for a flyer.

Grab some more plasma somewhere, and use those assault termies to beat him up? His plasma shouldn't do much to them, considering the 3++ saves.

I will not being using flyers in this particular list do to the fact that it is for friendly games. However, a SR would help solve the problem pretty nicely. We are also playing on a smaller than normal table because we are living and working in Afghanistan and we lack the room in our quarters.

I use oblits a lot. They are very decent units, but do have some weaknesses you can exploit:

-Low leadership. Even with Veterans, they only get a 9. Psyker poweers that force Leadership rolls will help you, since oblits tend to always be camping near the edge. and if they are not, they are that much closer to being assaulted by you (meaning they stop shooting)

-Average volume of fire: Being small units, oblits don't put out THAT big a number of shots. It's a bit better now that they have assualt cannons, but it's not realy hard to avoid the plasma cannons: just space your models a but more and he'll get, at best, two under the small blast. If one of your vehicles ever gets wrecked (once you get some), always disembark in a way to put the wreck between you and the oblits, or into cover.

- Cover. Ruins still give a 4+ cover save that you can turn into 2+ by going to ground. Jump your assault troops from cover to cover on the way to engaging them. It's 1 in 6 chance toget hurt in terrain, but now, unlike %th edition, you get your armor save against that, so you should lose few, if any models, and always retain a good save. So they can always have a 5+ (4+ in ruins) cover save, then a 5+ FNP roll for every wound on the way. That's really durable.

In Boxing matches, you actually get paid to take a dive and make the other guy look good.

In Warhammer 40K, you're expected to pay cash out of your pocket for the privilege of having Marines and IG trample all over your Xenos/Chaos.

Simply spread out and use your ap 1 and 2 weapons or get into melee and overwhelm. Plasma is your friend.
