I am working on the fluff for my lonewolf and I started to wonder how they can be fielded in term armour. In the fluff passage it explains that they are the last of their pack but have not made it to the rank of Wolf Guard (the only rank to have terminator armour as a choice). So where do they get it? Term armour is IIRC a very rare commodity in the 40k universe so I dont just see them handing a set of to a suicidal wolf who is seeking to get killed by something that is very likely to trash said armour. Thanks in advance.

That's where your wrong. A lone wolf dependant on their skill can be a serious adversary, think of kharn the betrayer (he's a lone wolf and by god a mass killer who can turn the tides of battle) A lone wolf who is seen to be of great use to the chapter even by themselves, wirll by all means be given terminator armor most probably from the chapters relics to btter serve as protection, or be given terminator armor as a gift by that of a dyeing terminator (from their chapter) in which he happens to come upon during battle

After defeating the notorious Mr. Renegade in battle, Mr. Lone Wolf was allowed to keep his terminator armor as a trophy, which he repainted to Space Wolf colors.

There is always some sort of exception; the fluff is flexible, especially when it comes to a chapter like the Space Wolves.

"Is he worthy?" rumbled Balthos, Wolf Lord of the Red Pelts.

"I have looked into his eyes Lord Balthos," replied Vanjyr the Wolf Priest, "the fires of rage burn deep within him. In his mind there remain only two possible outcomes, destruction of the great beast that devoured his packmates or joining them in the foul beast's gullet."

Balthos sniffed the air for a momment. He was no Rune Priest, but many of his Great Company swore he could scent the future. "Bring him before me and I will hear his oath."

"At once my Lord. " replied Athrn the Wolf Guard, already on his way from the chamber.

He returned a few moments later with another of the company. Unlike the gathered Wolf Guard and Long Fangs, the newcomer's hair was still bright red and his fangs were still short.

A Blood Claw.

Rurn did not kneel before Lord Balthos, Balthos had long ago decreed that none in his pack would bow to anyone less than to Russ and the All Father themselves. Instead he returned Balthos' gaze.

"Lord Balthos," began the Blood Claw, "I come to you for a boon. I seek the death of the horrid beast that slew my brothers. I ask that you grant me leave to seek it out in tomorrow's battle and end it's existence. If you give me your blessing to do this I swear to you that I shall return to you with both of the monster's heads or never return at all. "

Balthos' eyes did not leave the Blood Claw for a moment during his pledge. Instead he continued to sniff the air as the young warrior spoke. Once Rurn was finished, all went silent, waiting the Lord's decision.

"Rurn, I scent a great determination in you. I scent a purpose that even some of my Wolf Guard would envy." The Lord began. "You have leave to pursue the beast," he said "however, that bolt pistol and chain sword are not worthy implements for such a quest. As such, I shall order my armorers to fit you with the items you will need to slay the beast. "

"Thank you my Lord."'replied the young Space Wolf, "I shall bring glory to your name tomorrow."

"And glory to your name as well Rurn."

Cool, thank you all for the suggestions and a very enjoyable little short story example. Im doing a mark of wulfen lone wolf and I have an idea of where to go with it now.

Maybe he went a little bit crazy seeing the rest of his pack slain at the hands of the best. He didnt have the strength to fight it off so he gave into the wulfen which gave him the strength to fight the beast off, maybe wounding in the process making it retreat, hence it didnt kill him. Then he approaches the Great Company leader (or equivilant) to get permission to go after the beast.

I have a lone wolf with the mark of wulfen that i use, his back story is similar except it is against a chaos warlord.

The Lone Wolves are allowed pretty much free access to the armoury IIRC...
The SW chapter retains much of the equipment it had as a legion. They probably have a lot of terminator suits compared to most chapters.
Incidentally Lone Wolves are separated from the chapter's command. No one is willing to get between them and their doom which basically means they can go and die wherever they like.

But I bet their armour has particularly powerful tracking devices inside so they can go get it back in case Mr Loner snuffs it

"So, feeling a little crazy, are we? What about we strap this giant flashing beacon to your back.. that'll draw your doom to you doublequick!"

Logan uses a Chaos Power axe.
Also My guess would be its likely they are sent in on suicide missions, like wiping out a crisis suit team. They would need that armor to fuffill that role. While they wish for death, they also wish to serve the chapter.

And Lone Wolves have really two end results: Die honorably or Defeat some big baddy and join the Wolf Guard.

It isn't like every Lone Wolf is trying to commit suicide. He is trying to redeem himself. It just happens that one of the ways to do that is through death.

yes but you are missing an important part of that fluff the axe was vigourous checks by both wolf priests and iron priests before being allowed to be used and Logan Grimnar, head of the Space Wolves and one of the mot dedicated servant of the Emperor is alot better 'fluff bunking' than a single player made lone wolf.

Death Watch members whose service involves reconnaissance are often deployed on their own. If they got exceedingly skilled at such engagements, what's to say they weren't provided their Crux Terminatus and given a tactical dreadnought suit for certain missions?

But if you are skilled at recon why would you want Tactical Dreadnought armour, it would actually impair a person doing recon due to its sheer size and lack of speed.
