Hello,
Im writing today to share thoughts on typhus and his plauge ridden zombies ( I LOVE ZOMBIES ), I have read a few lists and it seems that most of them are lacking real punch, I ussually run at about 1500pts-2000. So far my main brainstorming idea is to field 120+ zombies with nurgle terminators to accompany typhus for the real punch. What I seem to lack is an efficient anti-Meq scheme, another point is I am happy to ally for more options but I am a fluff guy and like to keep a common theme.
So what are some of your thoughts on making the horde viable.

I'm doing a similar thing, but I'm going the Epidemus route and in that setup, you basically have to run the cultists as non-zombies.

Its a shame you cant have MoN on the zombies or else epi/zombie combo would be awesome, Could you imagine 120 3+ FnP's

That's probably the reason why you can't run MoN zombies.
But still, I would run at least 1 unit of zombies as a screening unit and to absorb the charges of uber-assault units that would just tear through the regular cultists.

I agree I like the idea of allied IG, Having another horde based army in the mix makes for an insane model count. Heavy weopon teams in platoons will make very much needed anti-meq and dakka aswell.

I am interested in this topic as well. I have just ordered a lot of zombies as I too LOVE ZOMBIES. I was thinking I could ally with my guard army and use a squadron of Leman Russ or maybe a vendetta with vets...painted like soldiers from Umbrella Corp.

The horde is viable. Its benifit is simple Cheap Durability Your not playing to table your opponent. Your playing to make it very hard to shift your army.
If you want to table your opponent, thats a different kind of army. Play daemons if you want to table your opponent.
Heck, adding 9 flamers and 6 screamers will help out any CSM list

1st List Idea: 1000pts
With IG ally,
CSM=
HQ- Typhus
Troops- 3x 25 ZOMBIEEEEEES!
IG=
HQ- CCS, 2x Sniper, ML
Troops- Platoon
PCS- ML
2x Infantry squad - Meltagun
1x HWS- Lascannon, 2x AC
This leaves 115pts to spare, Ideas?

Could do a melta suicide storm troop 105pt, then maybe add 2 flamers to the PCS with the last 10pt.

I am toying with this same idea. Let's say that the base of this build would be Typhus and 3 hordes of zombies. As you pointed out, this is a great brick wall, but lacks a real solid punch. I also want to keep this as nurgle themed as possible and if possible, I would like to avoid allies. I think allies would really give this army a nice kick, but I'm also looking at a budget and I already have lots of CSM stuff. So what units would fill the army with a good kick? Here is what I have come up with so far.
Lord on a bike - No MOK axe, but MON and the burning brand with some CC stuff and he's killy enough for me.
Plague Marines, plasma - They pack a little punch, but really do well holding objectives and add to an already tough build. I guess they should have a Rhino, but those have been getting blown off the table for me in 6th.
Helldrake - Since it's not really associated with any of the four gods, paint it green and I'm good to go. The torrent flamer is a great MEQ killer.
Bikers with MON and some plasma/melta - This is a great unit even without trying to keep a nurgle theme. I'll be taking them. The lord can go here too to give him protection and make the unit really killy.
Obliterators with MON - I love this build for oblitz. I might even take 9 and deep strike some of them if I'm feeling lucky. MEQ, TEQ, AV 14, doesn't matter, they can chew thru it.
Termicide MON - I like mine with combi-plas and a power axe (axe is for cost purposes, but a fist if you can afford it) champ with LC and a fist for a very versatile challenger.
Land Raider - I don't know, definitely cost prohibitive, however, if you put Typhus with the above terminators, they can win games for you.
These are just my preliminary ideas, I can't wait to test them, and the army should look awesome.
Thoughts?

I Like the Idea of Bikes with MoN, Very nasty with T6 and can also serve a role with meltaguns to go meq hunting.
And I think oblits is the key that you have pointed out for me, They are resilient but are also going to provide some much needed dakka.
I think for cost purpose I would just have vanilla CSM's to roll around and sit on objectives.

So, here is the rough draft of a 1750 list that I am going to run soon.
Typhus
retinue:
3 Terminators
MoN
Votlw
combi plasma
champ LC and PF
377
30 zombies
30 zombies
30 zombies
390
5 plague marines
2 plasma
150
Obliterators x2
MoN
152
Land Raider
230
5 Havocs
4 autocannons
115
5 Bikers
Mon
2 melta
champ melta bombs
165
Helldrake
170
Total 1749
Typhus and the terminators go in the LR. They go get into CC asap and wreck face. The Havocs try to deploy in cover and do some long range infantry/light vehicle hunting. The zombies go find objectives to take and one unit screens the PM unit. The Bikers obviously go heavy vehicle hunting. The Helldrake comes in and finds infantry to torrent either something that the bikers opened or something that is in cover and dangerous. The obliterators are the wildcard. I know everyone likes to put them in cover and use them long range, but I have had some success deepstriking them. I like the versatility added to an already versatile unit. I can usually find a spot where they can deep strike to a safe enough place and as they are one of our few MM platforms, that range can help them open anything.
I'm going to try this out and see how it goes just as soon as I find a way to aquire 90 plague zombies.

Well the Mantic Games zombie hoard is a cost effective way. 60 zombies for 35 pounds. The only thing is they come with square bases. You can buy 100 round bases for 12 pounds or maybe you already have a bunch of them.

The 100 for 12 pounds? That's on Mantic Games too.

I'd go two myself, but I'm just a sucker for redundancy. Otherwise I agree.

I plan on trying to run a list with two squads of 30 zombies with typhus, two helldrakes with baleflamers and then fill the rest with plague marines and oblits.
Was thinking of trying typhus in a unit of three oblits with MON that deepstrikes. They are a pretty solid escort for him. or if I dont want to deep strike just walk em while firing.
He solves their leadership problem quite nicely and with slow and purposeful they can still be on the move.
