My worst:
(5th edition) Ork player visiting from out of town came (with his friend) to a local tournament. I'm not the best player ever, but I have a decent list and I know how to move quickly. At the end of 5th edition I was finishing games in about an hour, usually 6 turns.
I come back from lunch 5 minutes late (my dad come in from out of town to watch my first game, took me to lunch and it took a little too long) so go straight to my opponent and apologize profusely and tell him that I'll either concede and play him for fun (my fault I was late) or we can just start a little late. He already had most of his orks on the table and he said "No, it's fine - I understand. Let's play." I get turn one, move some gribblies, spawn some gribblies - less than 2 minutes. I'm rushing because I was late and I felt bad for starting late.
My opponent takes 5 minutes - literally, this was the second unit to move and after the first one took forever I timed this one - to move his Battlewagon 6" forward. The debate in his mind wasn't if he should move 12" (no RPJ) or not, it was whether to move it at a 30 degree angle to the left or to move straight forward.
Fast forward an hour and a half, my turn 3. I charged his BW with a unit of genestealers. Since I was leaving cover I was at Init 1 but it's a vehicle so it didn't matter. Except that the guy I was playing wanted the nob unit inside to swing against the genestealers. Had to get the TO involved to tell him he couldn't. I wrecked the BW with it surrounded and he was unaware and told me I was lying when I said the entire nob unit was destroyed. (The genestealers couldn't completely surround it but I had a unit on the other side of the BW that was too close for him to deploy).
It took about 1:45 to play 3.5 turns (had to get the TO to allow him to finish his 4th turn). Because of his slow play I only pulled a draw. If I had won that game I would have been at the top table at the end of the day instead of middle of the pack.
Best game ever? First 6th edition game, Nids on Nids against a guy who is just awesome to play against. Nothing spectacular about the game specificially (except that his biovores nuked all the genestealers out of both units, leaving the Broodlord alive, on turn 1 - and he proceeded to forget about them all game. And it was a VP game) just a lot of fun.

Nid vs Nid. sounds like a hunger fest, and fun!
A slow opponent is always annoying, but the guy was understanding for you being late. Your dad sounds like a cool dude coming to watch you game. good read Trondheim

Yeah, the Nid vs Nid game was tons of fun. I kept taunting him about my broodlords still being alive and he kept forgetting.
He was understanding - and I appreciated it. That's why I was rushing my first two turns. After that it was apparent I wasn't going to get much more than that and I took my time to make sure I didn't miss anything - but I still played quickly. Overall I think it was my turn for about 30 minutes out of the 2:15-2:30 that the game took. That includes the arguments he decided to go to the judge for.
If he was playing Green Tide I might understand. It was kind of an uninspired list - iirc 15 lootas, an HQ with a SAG, 2 units of nobs, one in a BW, a warbiker unit, a unit of boys, and a dakkajet (that came in on his turn 4 because he failed the reserve rolls - that model alone took 15 minutes to move)

I'm not sure I've ever had a truely bad game. When I was getting back into 40k the second time (about 5 years ago) I was tabled by an 11 year old, but he was only moderately smug about it.
My current group is a great bunch of mature, and laid back folks who make gaming a real plesure but there is one contender for
best game ever...
I wasn't even playing. I was running the game. It was my first time running/judging a game at a convention (Little Wars 2012) essentially by myself as my friend (with much more convention experience) had to bow out because of a family issue. So there I am running the game with only the help of another friend who had never played the scenario and was visiting from another state.
It was a 6 player Mad Max'ish game (using a house ruleset) where the good guys had to escort a truck of diesel fuel across a board 14 feet long! Each player got two vehicles and a few fighters.
So we get the thing setup and a 3 folks don't show for their slot, but we fill their spots with 2 who saw the game being setup and my friend. Now it's just me having to teach this game and run it by myself!
It went great.
Everyone picked up the rules quickly and I only had to do a few on-the-fly house-rulings. Every player was engaged through the entire game and our "respawn" mechanism for players who were wiped out kept them engaged, while still penalizing them.
I was worried that either the good guys would steam to the end without much opposition or that the bad guys would take the truck too soon and it would feel like the game never really got going. Either result could end up with players feeling shortchanged.
As it was, the battle was long and bloody (though very fast paced) and swung back and forth. For the last half of the game it was a nailbiter as the bad guys boarded the truck and slowly killed all the defenders.
It came down to the very last turn as the driver (last remaining good guy on the truck) managed to survive long enough to drive the truck into the settlement and win the game!
Quite possibly one of the most fun games ever as all the players had a great time, and were biting their nails to the end! It was also a great affirmation of my ability to run a game, and of the benefit of playtesting (we'd spent several sessions adjusting the scenario and house rules) and making a player-centric game. It went so good that I'll be running the same scenario at another convention in a few weeks.
I did a full AAR here:

The good : Living near GW HQ, I get to play a good bit of people that are coming through and just visiting. The social aspect is my favorite part of the hobby by far.
The bad: With that being said, the worst game I have ever played was against a BA player in 5th who ran 3 storm ravens. He is one of those guys who pulls lists of the internet and acts like he thought of it on his own. He is a nice guy beside the fact I should mention. We got to about turn 3 and he was being a huge dbag and I scooped, looked him in the eye and told him that he was out of touch with what really matters in life.
The ugly: The absolute worst game that I have ever played was against an eldar player who was 300 points above the limit and brought in a PDF codex. He was just there to kill some time and not actually play a good game. It was after enough whining that they finally changed the format to include the codex and army list rule at tournies.

no, you're getting awfully close for taking it upon yourself to declare a perfectly valid playstyle to be TFGish by definition.
some of us don't give a feth about twenty zillion less competitive models and have **one** build for an army modelled and ready to play. if you don't care for that, fine. find opponents that better match your style. but simply happening to not follow your One True Path © does not make one a TFG. sheesh.

I've got the good, the bad, and the weird.
The good: Back in 2nd edition several friends of mine ran a Campaign game and I used my IG that I played at the time. We had to split our 3000 point armies between multiple zones of control and could end up in completely uneven (pointwise) fights. I ended up dead last in the campaign, but only after being ganged up on. But the fights! There was a Space Wolves attack that I ended up thwarting with the only remaining item on the board - an immobilized Hellhound. Against the Eldar player I killed his Avatar at the first round of the first game with a Lascannon shot (they did 2d6 wounds back then) and it had been ruled a 'non replacable character' before the campaign started.
Then the stomping began, but it was fun all the way down to the bottom.
The bad: Going to an 'Ard Boyz tourney back in 2008 and suffering severe intestinal distress/gastritis while trying to play. Ended up in 3rd, but was in so much agony for several hours I didn't touch 40K for six months (and BBQ for longer). Everyone at the tourney was really nice/understanding and they let me take longer to do moves and such as I was having trouble bending over the table. The organizer even went and got me Tums (too bad they didn't work).
The weird: We were gaming at a friend's house back during 2nd Edition. We played all our 40K games there as he had the terrain and tables and several of us would rotate opponents. While I'm playing my IG and another friend has his Genestealer Cult army (from Citadel Journal), the wife of the home owner comes home with several of her relatives.
They proceed to inform the homeowner that the wife is leaving him (all while myself and the Genestealer Cult player are bystanders) and then start moving furniture and other stuff out of the house. It was the most bizarre thing I'd ever seen. All the while the homeowner goes weird and plays a solo player fantasy RPG with another member of the gaming group in the living room instead of doing anything about the move out.
The Cult player and I finish our game (there was only a turn left and it was a tight, tight game) and then quietly pack up, tell the homeowner 'good night, good luck' and then go outside and chat next to our cars about how that was one of the most uncomfortable gaming experiences of our lives.

You do sound TFG in this case. Maybe it was just the way you told the story. You don't really give details on how he was being a dbag, then you say you scooped down, looked him in the eye and told him that he was out of touch with what matters in life. From the sound of that I'd say you're lucky you didn't get punched.

That is pretty dramatic. I like that you clarified the circumstances under which you continued playing your game. Continuing to play during a seperation if you are only on turn 2 is considered a faux pas according to the TTG handbook. Did you win?
The closest I've come to this is the wife of our D&D DM yelling threats of divorce at him over their two screaming children during play in their cramped living/dining room. Thus ending my most succesful attempt at engaging in roleplaying at two sessions.

He did. He just really wanted to have a hobby. He sold all his books, tiles, and pre-paints a week or so later. The whole experience was pretty depressing to observe.
