Howdy Dakka,
Been gaming for perhaps to long now. But over the years, i have only seen threads of bad experiences, and as such, i thought i would open the topic of good/bad gaming experiences. Where we start with the worst we had, and end with the best. Kinda hindsight over the time to generate a laugh at yourself. I will attempt to tell mine, they may not be that great. Also don't limit yourself to gaming on the table, it can be painting, modeling, ect.
My worst gaming experience in my life i have had so far would be modeling. I had decided that the exacto was the tool of the gods and i could do anything with it. I sure did do anything with it, stuck the entire blade down the middle of my thumb. I pulled it back out instantly, and it didn't hurt. I thinking body kicked in instant shock. Blood coursing out; khorne would of been please. . Proceed to squeeze thumb shut and use super glue. Bleeding stopped and thumb purple, i continued like a idiot to build. I built a full ten man squad of orks in some of the most paint i had in a while. i now use other tools to get the models off sprue and sand them with a nail file or the sort rather then a exacto blade.
My best gaming experience, was having a freshly painted new big mek with KFF that i got for my birthday. I kitted the mek out with a killa kan power klaw, and spent around 30 hours of time getting the poor dude to a table paint. (was such a bad painter back then). However, i walked in the store and received much praise for the orky dude . It really touched my heart that day; was feeling down, and was expecting the work to be trashed. Most of the fellow gamers were harsh on comments and sometimes laughed at models. nothing i couldn't take however. . The highlighting moment of this though was the long tradition of newly painted models dying terribly, because they had too. Not this guy, he made 6 5++ saves at one time. As a result, he slew Kharne the betrayer, and swept the bezerkers. That won the game for me, and both of us where laughing and shaking hands. It was a fine moment where defeat/victory didn't matter.
Please do tell yours!

My worst experience was at a tournament not too long ago, and it's a toss-up between two different games. Game 1: Played the new chaos, the very day the codex came out, with a demons ally. The guy had apparently downloaded it off the internet beforehand, though, cos he said he and his brother had spent the last week putting the list together. Anyway, Epidouchbagimus had 20 tokens the very first round he deepstruck on to the table, and after that I took out a single nurgle marine each round. But it wasn't the game that made this a bad experience. Turn 2 my opponent's entire effing family showed up and started cheering for him and heckling me... Not only that, but every time my opponent was asked how it was going, he's like "I'M CRUSHING HIM!!!" real loud...
Game 2: Played against a tyranids player who fielded 9 hive guard with some kind of gun that apparently ignored cover. First turn is Nightfighting, I focus all my 2000 points of guns on one tervigon (or whatever that model is called who breeds Termagants), and a giant squad of genestealers. To kill a grand total of ZERO models, because he makes all his shrouded saves. His first turn: he takes out ALL my non-vehicle heavy support, and more than half of my human shield, and all that after only shooting those goddang ignores-cover guns. He proceeds to complain (seriously COMPLAIN) that he knows it's douchebaggery to bring so many of those hive guard a-holes, but that I can't blame him for doing it, because he just HAS to bring them. He expects sympathy from me for having to bring 9 of one of the best units I've ever seen in the game... Plus, he's so high on red-bull, I can't follow what he's saying most of the time. I conceded turn 2. I just couldn't stand playing this guy anymore. He was annoying and exceptionally tiring.
Best game ever: I played Orks with Thraka, against Ultramarines with Marneus. Game was extremely close all the way through, and in the end I was left with a single model with a single wound, as was my opponent. It was a showdown in the middle of the board with Thraka VS. Marneus, both with a single wound left. Needless to say, Thraka cut Marneus to shreds. Amazing game, and both my opponent and I felt like it had been totally epic all the way through.

I don't have many stories because I don't play much, but I do have a classic nerd rage story.
This happened about 2.5 years ago. Was playing a game of 40k with a family member, he was using necrons and I was using chaos. He kept trying to use the power matrix to pull a squad in and use the particle whip in the same turn. I pointed out to him that it clearly stated "or" in the codex, meaning you can use one or the other. For some reason he just couldn't get that across his head, we had a mild argument over it, no one yelled or anything, and in the end he decided that he was right, but that he'd play the rule the way I stated.
I've never been able to get him to play a game with me since. Silent nerd rage, but nerd rage nonetheless. Consequently our relationship has deteriorated as well since wargaming was the only thing we really had in common. He also defriended me on facebook

Hmm. I've had plenty of memorable bad experiences, I can tell you that. As for the worst, well. I can think of 2 off the top of my head from 6th.
Game 1: I went to a gaming club that was pretty empty, and I saw a friend of my closest hobby pal and his friend who had just started a game. Not wanting to waste my weekend having not got a game in, I waited 2 hours for a 2000 point game to end. I then got to play against the friend of my friend's friend with Nids, and I started off by explaining the rules of the Contemptor Mortis Pattern Dreadnought I had brought and he was like "yeah I know lets get on with it" so we carried on. Later, he paid the price for not listening and he put a squad of Genestealers (or one of the brood variants) onto some ruins nearby with my Devastators, in plain view of my idle Contemptor Mortis Dreadnought. "Oh, that will be 12 interceptor shots then."
He looked at me puzzled and frustrated. Unfortunately, both of the two guys can be a bit up their arses by acting like they are always right when it comes to the rules, so he said I couldn't do it because I didn't tell him. I told him he could have listened, and at that point he's like "oh well I don't want to play with dicks" and started to pack away. He calmed down and went "well go on if you want to I guess but it wouldn't be fair" or something along those lines and in my head I'm not enjoying this game at all because I'm sick of him acting like an arrogant prat. I take my interceptor shots. Incredibly, I manage to roll along the lines of 6-8 combined 1's and he passes the remaining wounds with cover saves. Was that Karma on the wrong person or is it just me?
Game 2: I was at a tournament and the friend of a friend I mentioned just now was facing me in the second match. I had Space Marines and he had Chaos Space Marines (5th ed codex). I hate playing this guy, because unlike the Nid player he doesn't even have a painted army. In fact, his army is a heap of scrap, with about 1 in 10 models that have been dipped in what looks like that really thick and vivid paint that makes models look like jelly beans. Everything except his Raptors and the odd special weapons in the squads are proxied. It was a beginners tournament, to be fair, but yet he was also in his late teens and I had seen better armies painted and assembled by children in my early days at the GW stores near me. He was also the only person in the entire tournament roster of 16 or so to have an army like this.
The other problem is that he is everything that was bad about the other guy, only magnified two fold. He speaks out loud his thoughts during his turn, blabbering on deliberately in my face indirectly about how he's going to land a master stroke by saying things like "I can probably wipe them out" while looking at my different units, but in a really snobby tone and meaning to purely himself that doesn't create any positive atmosphere. He's saying all this about turn 2- when I'm just about to land my master stroke. His Nurgle bikers on the far left flank are obliberated, the squad's then folding into the center, as my other squads close in on the center and kill half of his 27 or so Plague marines footslogging around the area. This aggravates him and his mood goes down, yet despite the fact he's got a handful of PM's, a squad of Raptors with Lord, his Havocs and his Oblits left and his only units, he's still confident he can beat me. It switches to his turn. He moves into the center objective with his PM's and captures it, while his lord and raptors charge a combat squad with attached naked Librarian with Force Staff. I accept his Lord's challenge with my libby, as some might say foolishly- he has Blood Feeder, so he gets a bucket of dice. 2D6+5 attacks. He rolls 10. At this point I'm sure I can't win the challenge, yet despite all the dice he only gets about 3 hits, and one wound. I strike back with a laughable 3 attacks, hitting him once, wounding him, and watching as he fails his armour save. He's pretty cocky- "easy". He fails his armour save.
"Ok, force weaponing, 2D6, passed, dead."
At this point he got really frustrated and starts saying you can only activate powers in your turn, so it can't happen, which is a load of rubbish. He whinges and won't budge because he acts like he is never wrong with the rules. I pull his other friend over from the game on the next board, and ask him. He says yes, and he grudgingly groans in a light tone "oooook."
My turn. I surround his plague marines with my own Tacticals and pick them apart, wiping them out with massed bolter and plasma fire. I'm about to target his next group of PM's when he says "ugh I concede". And then starts to pack away, before chanting the genius statement:
"Technically I'm still winning because I have uh, slay the warlord, uh, 3 victory points for that objective uh..."
"Nope mate, I've got three objectives here, here, and here, and Slay the Warlord."
We look at the tournament points sheet and we realize theres a points cost per unit entry for how many points of the enemy army did you kill. He wants to continue so he can squeeze a few more points out of me. We continue. By turn 5 he's got just his Obliterators left, and I haven't lost anything except a Tech Marine on my Thunderfire Cannon. I couldn't help but savour a feeling over the fact I'd just beat this cocky git, yet it wasn't particularly fun and it wasn't really challenging. The latter doesn't even bother me most of the time in games, so long as my opponent hasn't got so lucky with the finer points of his Codex that I haven't even had a fighting chance, which happens at the worst of times to me. Hell, as long as I stood a chance and lost because of geniune mistakes or miscalculated gambles, or in other words, played a "balanced throughout" game I'm happy, providing his army is painted and looks nice.

Another of my bad experiences was actually when I completely annihilated an opponent in the same tournament where I played the two douchebags. It was NOT fun at all. This opponent was a really nice guy, and had a beautiful pre-heresy Luna Wolves and Death Guard army. He was obviously inexperienced (though he said he'd played for several editions), and I think he was really intimidated by my three Leman Russes and 15 heavy weapons teams. So he just hung back and played defensively, with his mid-range army, against my long/mid-range army. It was not pretty, and I didn't feel like I should really hammer him either, so I spread the firepower around, but it didn't help. By the end of turn 4 I had the relic, and he didn't have any forces left. It was probably the worst I've felt in any game of 40k. As much as I don't like to get pounded into dust, I really HATE doing it to others.

both where losses, But one was bad, the other was great.
Played this guys Eldar army, I lost, But it was an awesome gme because of who quickly it swayed back and forth. It was clear at on point he would win, but it was great. Especially sense he had 5+ models in cover, and Had a whirlwind.
Another one was this one guy who played GK, He was a chore to play againts, His Movements too 20 minutes and shooting another 20. And him and his kid kept arguing about what to do.
To me a good game is, even if you lost you can look back at the game fondly.

Worst game: my Orks vs. a guy playing daemons. He's not a bad guy in-game, but he just tends to gravitate towards the most annoying, broken lists that can't be beaten. It doesn't help that he's been gaming for years and knows what he's doing. Anyway, so he's playing a double-chart list with 6 squads of Tzeentch flamers plus four big daemons and a ton of little pink horrors. Now, I think to myself that if I can play it right, I might be able to pull a draw. Fat chance of that. By turn 3, I'm down to a single squad of big guns. His daemons crushed a squad of Ork Boyz over the course of 3 rounds of combat, and his flamers just slowly worked their way around the board, burning all of my squads down to nothing. There was literally nothing I could do to stop him. I think by the end I'd managed to kill 2 squads of flamers and some random horrors, and that's it.
Best game, however: I can't really nail down any specific game, but there's one guy at my FLGS who plays Orks like me, and we've always had basically mirrored lists. He'll find something new that's great, I'll copy it, then I'll figure out some nasty combo and he'll work it into his list. What's great is that we're about the same skill level, so every time I play him, the game usually ends with both armies blasted to pieces with a handful of models on the board on both sides. As I put it, I don't care who wins, just so long as stuff dies.

Wow, so many having knife issues. I must be incredibly lucky or I just use my knife smarter, that or I'm in for a long a*s period of knife related accidents. Seriously, guys should be more careful when handling knives. One suggestion is when trying to cut something thick or solid, use a wallpaper knife instead of the exacto knife. I got to admit that every time I hold an exacto, I feel unsafe. Those things are tiny tiny monsters.

Agreed. The exacto is more like a stabbing device. I use a wallpaper knife as well and I've only had minor cuts that don't bleed or anything. And I consider myself pretty poor with knives since I have more violent episodes when I'm cutting vegetables.

Never had knife problems. I've been using the same swiss army knife to clean my models for the past 15 years, and the blade has always been just sharp enough to shave mold lines and trim flash, but dull enough that it would take some real effort to actually cut my skin.
I don't have any really bad experiences that stand out in my memory (apart from the usual "how much did I spend?!" thoughts). I tend to feel bad when I'm crushing an opponent. Especially when it's one of those games where the dice love me and hate him.
My best moment, though, was in a game of Epic years ago (when they released it in the late 90s, I believe). I was using an Imperator titan, and my opponent had managed to knock down all 12 of its void shields in one turn by shooting everything they had at it. Didn't do any damage, but got the shield down. At the end of my turn, after the Imperator blew apart one of his titans, I rolled the dice to repair my shields: 12 dice, needing a 4+ to regenerate a shield, and I regenerate 11 of them. He conceded at that point, but it was still a moment of sheer awesome when it happened.

The worst game of my life.
So, we have a 500 point tournament at our GW, evenings. One of the guys rocks up with a totally unpainted SW force, and proceeds to try and gutstomp me. I have a chaplain, 2 tactical squads and a dreadnought. He has 3 full blood claw squads, a fenriasian wolf squad and a high priest. I proceed to hold him to a draw even though he's about 750 points up. He yells at me for *cheating* when I've done nothing.
Second worst
Apocalypse game vs a spammer, who just brings squads and squads of foot guard on, leaving no room on the battlefield after declaring they are grav-dropping in. He doesn't even roll on the dangerous terrain table or mishap table.
Third worst.
1000 pt tournament
Orks Vs dark angels.
He had a Kan wall, with dreadnoughts backing him up. I had a devastator squad that he bombed into CC. cue rending and ripping. I pretty much just let him win because I couldn't hurt him.
Best game
Dark Angels Vs Orks.
Just was one of the most amazing games I have ever had, fifth edition. He had 3 out of 4 of the ork characters, I had only 2 characters. Flamed the heck outta the ork stormboyz. But lost my heavy support.
It was tit for tat most of the game and we were both having fun. The last 2 turns I gained the upper hand and then only just won.

In a casual setting, I'd care a bit less, but in a tournament setting? Running a list like that is a major no-no. Even at base cost, that list is nearly 900 points total, and presumably his wolf priest and blood claws had some kind of gear on them. I don't want to derail this in a debate about going over the points limit, but I'll just say that I can accept going a hair over because the points didn't add up right. Tau are especially hard to hit a precise amount. But going nearly 500 points over the limit? That's just wrong, man.

Oh god, An 1850 Tournament Yesterday. 6 people, 4 of them where of the same family, Heplayed orks 1st, he was awesome even if i lost, it was fun(I siezed the initiative)
Then I played His brother(IG) He had by far the most puzzling list ever, 2 blobs squads, 2 russes, 2 Heavy Teams, a Vendetta and a Sentinel team(A few more things which made no difference)
Well he gt first turn, only thing he did to me was kill one servitor.
By the end of my turn, the sentinels where dead, one Russ dead, and another immobilized in front of my dread. He proceeds and whines abut how he has already lost. When I gave him ample opportunity to kill my guys, he didn't notice(My sternguard were right behind his heavy support)
When I killed his vendetta he was inconsolable. But if he fired that battle cannon at my land speeder and that heavy team against my sternguard who where right behind them(Clear shot) he would have gotten a few more points, but he was more focused on killing my Rhinos.
He also shot a battle cannon against the dreadnought he was immobilized in front of. when there was a land speeder with a MM no further then 7 feet away.
I would have given him advice like I tend to, but he was such a pain, crushing him was great.
Then his father stepped in to defend.....me because he was being a jerk and making the game miserable.
Then i played the first guy again, This is relic. He sets up his army to seize it fast. Well I seize it Init again. I then put up a giant roadblock on his army(Immobilized a truck, Shaked a BW and destroyed another so his army cannot advance. He then moaned and whined. He also won the tournament and game(I got 3rd.)

Most of my experiences were good. I haven't really had bad experiences... maybe 'awkward'...but not necessarily bad. Awkward like the other player throwing his dice across the room because he was getting bad rolls... or awkward where the player's Stuka's didn't kill off enough of my infantry and they storm off for a second.

THis family sounds hilarious, i think i want them to adopt me.
