I'm a long time Tyranid player, and I've always been devoted to my army, through the thick and thin (and boy was there some thin). Lately however, Tyranids seem to be taking much more of an upswing. Now, I've always played my Nids competetively, and I'm proud that I have competed in GTs, and taken down plenty of top tier lists, but the Hive Mind still got a bad rep on the Internet. Finally however, i'm seing more Tyranid army lists, more painted Nids, and questions about Hormagaunts in the Tactics. (Best of all, the great batreps that Jy2 and Reecius have been putting up) Overall, Tyranids are being taken a bit more seriously competetively.

So, do you think the Hive is on the rise? Or am I just crazy, and do you still crush all xenos with your Grey Space Blood Templars?

What list do you bring? I love my nids, but I can't seem to do well enough with them.

My current 2k:
Walking Shell Dakkatyrant, OA, one guard
Dakka Flyrant
2x3 Hive Guard
2x Zoanthropes
10 gants
19 gants
20 gants
Tervigon, 3 powers TS/AG
Tervigon, 3 powers TS/AG
Tervigon, 3 powers TS/AG Crushing Claws
2x Biovores

It has 40 toughness 6 wounds, 65 models to start, and plenty more bugs come out to play by turn 1. Strongest part of Nids now is psychic powers, Biomancy is wicked good.

Wow, that is a really nice list, I may just steal it!

It's tough that genestealers went from being amazing to terrible in 6th ed. Ymgarl stealers are still really good though and can mess up a lot of armies.

I really don't know why no one likes genestealers. They work good for me, but then again I run them in broods of 20 with broodlords so yeah... Also sometimes I put them in spore pods (gasp!). I find it works better than outflanking half the time.

Anyway even without the stealers, bugs are highly competitive, especially the tervigon, trygon, gargoyle lists. Bug players have won the last three tourneys in my area.

Go ahead! Feel free to get an idea on how it works by following the link in my sig.

I think the issue with stealers is that theyre a huge "kill me!" and aren't very tough. Cover as 5+ hurt them hard, as they're only T4, and expensive as all heck. Ymgarls though... those are pretty good choices.

I'm definately finding Nids are on the upswing with 6th.

I've got a casual group so my Nids have always been okay but recently the sheer level of psi dominance you can put on the board is crazy. Biomancy has been a huge boon for them and with the end of No Retreat! saves you can really have those gaunts tarpit anything they want and keep grinding them down.

Hive Guard are far less important now as 95% of vehicles can be glanced to death in melee by adrena-gaunts or MC Devourers which means you have even more space for Zoans and Ymgarls that can really put your opponent on the back foot from turn 1.

It's possible that our meta just hasn't shifted, but my local club is still a yawn-fest of Space Wolves, Grey Knights, Blood angels and Guard.

And since the advent of the allies rules every single one of them added an allied contingent of either another one or one squad of sisters and Celestine, as well as a skyshield or aegis in every list because things weren't static enough.

Myself and two others are the only ones with any xenos at all. I play Crons, Orks and an allied contingent of 'Umie Boyz (Guards who've painted themselves green). One guy plays Eldar/DE and the other Daemons/CSM and has had a 100% losing record since 6th Ed because everybody's got a GK allied force they bring just for him.

"Got you, Yugi! Your Rubric Marines can't fall back because I have declared the tertiary kaptaris ka'tah stance two, after the secondary dacatarai ka'tah last turn!"

"So you think, Kaiba! I declared my Thousand Sons the cult of Duplicity, which means all my psykers have access to the Sorcerous Facade power! Furthermore I will spend 8 Cabal Points to invoke Cabbalistic Focus, causing the rubrics to appear behind your custodes! The Vengeance for the Wronged and Sorcerous Fullisade stratagems along with the Malefic Maelstrom infernal pact evoked earlier in the command phase allows me to double their firepower, letting me wound on 2s and 3s!"

"you think it is you who has gotten me, yugi, but it is I who have gotten you! I declare the ever-vigilant stratagem to attack your rubrics with my custodes' ranged weapons, which with the new codex are now DAMAGE 2!!"

"...which leads you straight into my trap, Kaiba, you see I now declare the stratagem Implacable Automata, reducing all damage from your attacks by 1 and triggering my All is Dust special rule!"
