Unfortunately, I do not (will not) stock that cheap rotgut known as bourbon in the cabinet. I can't drink it (and I don't cut "whiskey" type spirits with mixers so I can't make it drinkable.). There is a selection of single malt whiskeys and whiskys, cognacs and "girly" liqueurs, though.

*gasp* You offend me sir! Bourbon is an american art! And is certainly not cheap!

Well... my stuff isn't cheap. My wallet reminds me of that every time I make a run.

I think what makes bourbon undrinkable for me has something to do with the other grains in the mash that makes up bourbon.

I got spoiled with single malts when I started to drink booze. Once you've had perfection, it's hard to downgrade.

I'll make a deal with you, find me a single malt that doesn't taste like I'm sucking on a campfire, and I'll find you a bourbon that doesn't murderilate your gastro-whatsits.

Also... err... Civilian Model!

Since we're boozing up this thread. How about what these things actually do...

Journalist L1

If the Journalist is alive on the board at the end of scenario it gets you...

+3 to your CubeVac roll... assuming your specops guy got murdered and has a Cube.

At L1 you get a +3 to your Promotion Roll for your SpecOps character.

At L2 its +6

At L3 its +9

A WarCor is a model that costs 3 Points and can be taken by any Faction. AVA 1. And they're Irregular.

Named characters in campaign can--if my reading is correct--utilize the SpecOps CubeVac rolls as well so Journalists are pretty interesting...

The fact that Gogo can actually be used in a campaign is great, especially since I like the fig.

Yeah but they were scary enough before, now they can take a chick on a Motorcyle with ODD and a Monofilament CCW. Sweet jeebus that's awesome, but they are all rather ridiculous.

And rather expensive. It's part of ALEPH's charm.

I like my GoGo mini, but I think I'll be looking for other minis to actually look like a WarCor. I wondered about converting some Statuesque minis for the purpose.

Point to note: not every faction can take a WarCor. Tohaa and Combined Army have to do without.

@Cutthroat: I don't think we'll ever agree on each other's choice of poison (well, my one is like an angel's tears - if angels existed and yours is the poison ...)

This waiting is exercising my patience, though. Damned distributors and their inability to spot demand (as in, as soon as it was announced, they were told to get it in. They waited.)

I think either Heresy or Fenris make a journalist team including cameraman and reporter.

So my Paradiso book came in, with Gogo, and I'm not being charged for the fig. Awesome.

If you got the fig, it was always going to be a freebie. If your dealer was charging you extra for it, you were being gypped.

The problem was, that at the start, it wasn't a guaranteed addition and some people were going to miss out. So they (CB) relented and made it a one book+one mini deal for the price of the book (pre-ordered).

Don't drink peaty whiskies, go for Speyside ones instead.

On topic, I'm really not a fan of the Marlene model, precisely because I'm not into the anime aesthetic. Might have to pick up a journalist model of some kind though - maybe 7TV have a good one. Is there a downside to killing the enemy journalist? I can't imagine the Hassassin, Combined Army or Ninja giving much of a feth about 'bad press', for example.

There's the "Killing journalists is punishable by the Concilium Convention" but that's it. So no, no penalties. You have to stick the WarCor where the sun doesn't shine, along with the LT and your remote healer, I guess.

This seems like a really bad design decision!

I'm actually kind of surprised it works like that...

I think that making it an autolose if you kill the journalist makes it really dodgy as well. Imagine if your opponent ran a link team, and had a journalist standing right in the centre of them; instantly the best link-team killers (i.e. templates) you cannot use. I like how Infinity feels a bit more realistic than 40k, but bringing in human shields is probably a bit too much.

Journalist go into the fight knowing they are in serious danger. If someone shoots a WarCor it's jsut chalked up as an accident, someone gets slapped on the wrist, and life moves on.

As per the Geneva Convention it's a war crime to shoot a human with an anti tank round. However in the heat of battle and you life in on the line, tell that to a soldier.

The same thing with HMG's. If you watch the movie Act of Valor they only use the mini gun on the vehicle. They are not allowed to use it on troops. But it made the bad guys stay in cover.

Granted.

But in this case, it still seems like a poorly thought out game mechanic.

Yes, although in the context of which conflict takes place it makes sense. None of the factions in Infinity are openly at war (with the exception of everyone vs. Combined Army). How could those Pan Oceania have killed that Nomad reporter (to make an example) if there has not been an armed conflict between them, and those explosions which racked hab-block F yesterday evening were a result of a massive power-grid failure according to the official Maya-net release? So if anything it would be in the antagonist's best interests to try and take out the journalist, let alone some kind of code of war where civvies are not allowed to be targeted.

I think also in game terms it adds a nice new dynamic - you get a bonus for using the reporter, but have to try and protect her (actually, bagging her prevents you from getting a nice bonus so it makes sense for them to target her!) The GoGo Marlene model with the 'I'm so cute wolololol' little robot will also make it a tempting target for many players I feel regardless!

My friend and I were thinking of bringing in some extra rules for combat to use in a campaign which takes place in the main human-sphere habitation areas. We know that the O-12 turns a blind eye out of necessity towards the inter-faction conflict and espionage. But my idea for the campaign was that if you keep using 'banned by the O-12 weapons' or kill a journalist, you increase the chance of the O-12 finally saying "right you lot!", sending in some troopers and a resulting mini-battle between your force and them, or perhaps them even turning up as a 3rd party during a conflict! Perhaps something like they turn up on a natural 20 roll, -1 for every 'banned' weapon that was used (and fired) in the previous game.

I think a lot of potential in any case to add more of a campaign narrative and depth to the games, and add connection between the game mechanics and the Infinity universe which we have read so much about.

Hmm, that gives me a nice idea for a variation on the hostile environment rules - have an area covered by O12 surveillance and drones.

Use the usual hostile enviro rules but they only kick in if the roll involved banned equipment, the penalty being immobilisation due to tasers etc.

Maybe also have the danger level increase each turn or with each failure to represent O12 taking more active notice as the conflict escalates.

That could work for a general simulation of how long it takes until the local authorities respond. If you have Qapu Khalqi and JSA scrapping in a module on a nomad ship or in a Pan-o corporate facility, they might only have a limited time to achieve the mission and then scram before the local enforcers turn up and start ruining everyone's day. Very cool - like a modern spy thriller where both sides are trying to achieve their goals without letting anyone notice the carnage.
