I was simply sharing my opinion how to improve the event. It's sixth edition now and I see a lot of TOs for major events making changes to their formats to incorporate the new edition. I'm sure it will be another banner year for ATC and pretty much I've heard nothing but good things

Any word on an "official" hotel for the event? Centurian99 planted an evil seed at Adepticon that has us looking at attending. But it's always more fun to stay near the other teams, rather than spreading throughout the city.

First of all let me say that I think the ATC is a truly great event. It is the single most fun 40k tournament I have ever participated in and I am very excited for the ATC this year.

Recently I have been playing a lot of games using the ATC scenarios in order to practice for the tournament and I am overall very pleased with the ATC missions. However, there is one thing in particular that I think needs to be changed. The 5 capture and control objectives need to be placed before determining deployment zones. I have discussed this with many other 40k players that plan to attend the ATC as well as several other players that frequently organize 40k tournaments. Placing objectives before deciding deployment zones makes for a much more balanced placement of objectives and a much more tactical and competitive game between the two players involved. If deployment zones are decided on before objective placement then too much of the game is decided upon a single dice roll to place objectives. I urge you to please modify the rules for the ATC so that objectives are placed before deployment zones are determined.

This past weekend I played in a 40k tournament that used the ATC missions, except that objectives were placed before deployment zones are determined. Everyone loved the scenario and objective placement order immensely and everyone I talked to about the mission preferred placing objectives before determining deployment zones. In fact, a number of people I talked to expressed their frustration that the ATC does not plan to place objectives this way.

Again, I love the ATC. It truly is one of the great 40k events in the USA and it is superbly well run. But making this change will make the ATC even better and make for a more competitive environment in which to play 40k. I know that placing objectives in this way is counter to the placement style in the 6th edition rulebook, but the mission that the ATC uses is already different than the mission presented in the 40k rulebook and is designed for balance. Changing the rules so that deployment zones are determined before placing objectives will make the ATC mission even more balanced and simply make for a better tournament overall. Thank you for hearing me out.

I'm not sure I see your point. One player is gaining an advantage either way is all I see. Its still arbitrary... Its also highly practical for not having to get around 5 tables side by side. The terrain on the tables is pretty balanced, so the only real reason for switching sides after we've already done a meet and greet is if objectives are on the other side... This way, its a lot less musical chairs, a lot less...

Placing objectives first creates an even board and usually both sides are even when it comes to objectives. It avoids the common scenario in 6th where the winner of the roll to place objectives places all 3 as far back in his deployment zone as possible and the loser places his two as far back in his deployment zone as possible. Objectives tend to be more spread out if you don't know where you are going to be deployed.

As many TO’s have found with creating tournament missions for this new edition of 40k, we have had a bit of trial and error ourselves. In our on-going efforts to be one of the best events in the nation and to give the community the event and missions that they want and deserve, we have made the decision to listen to the overwhelming concerns and requests to change the way objective placement will be handled in the ATC 40k Missions for this year.

Detailed below are the changes to the ATC 40k 2013 Missions first and then followed by an updated of the mission in its entirety.

A : “Crusade” Objectives cannot be placed within 6” of any LONG table edge or within 3” of any SHORT table edge or within 6” of another “Crusade” Objective.

B : “Emperors Will” Objectives cannot be placed within 6” of any table edge or within 3” of another Objective.

C : Mission Setup:
1 - Place Objectives for “Crusade”
2 – Determine Deployment Zones. Players roll off to determine who chooses their deployment zone. Winner of the roll off chooses their deployment zone first.
3 – Players now place any Fortifications. Taking it in turn starting with the player who chose deployment zones from step 2. With the exception of Aegis Defense Lines, Fortifications will replace ONE piece of terrain that is already on the table. Aegis Defense lines Do Not replace a piece of terrain. If a piece of terrain containing an objective is replaced by a Fortification, then that objective MUST be placed EXACTLY 3 inches AWAY from the Fortification on the side of the Fortification facing the center of the table, following all the rules for proximity from other objectives and table edges.
4 – Place Objectives for “The Emperor’s Will”
5 – Roll for Warlord Traits
6 – Roll for Psychic Powers
7 – Roll off to see which player deploys first. Winner of the roll off chooses to deploy first or second.
8 – The Player who deployed first will have the first turn.
9 – Seize the Initiative may be attempted if desired.
10 – Variable Game Length is in effect.

Some of these are interesting.

Bad for D-scythes: "Unless specified otherwise, attacks that cause Instant Death on a to wound roll of 6 still need to be able to wound the target model for Instant Death to be inflicted (e.g. a S4 attack cannot hurt a T8 model even if the attack causes Instant Death on a 6). [pg. 38, W40KRB]"

Bad for Shrike/Shadowsun: "An Independent Character that has the Infiltrate special rule CAN NOT join a unit that does not have Infiltrate during deployment allowing them all to infiltrate together [pg. 39, W40KRB]"

ALL fast attack fliers are going to score: "In Missions where Fast Attack units can claim an objective, a Flier can control objectives. The distance to the objective from the model will be measured horizontally from the vehicles hull."

This one is looks incorrect, as regards vehicles: "Unlike other types of area terrain, forests grant a cover save if a firing model traces its line of sight over any portion of the forest’s base, regardless of whether the target (even if it is a vehicle) is physically obscured by the trees at all. This even applies to a firing model even a fraction of an inch fully inside of a forest that is firing at targets outside. [pg. 102, W40KRB]"

And this one is insane: "Battle Focus allows jetbikes to shoot and turbo boost."

Wow. . . I think that is a crazy ruling. Eldar bike armies are going to be crazy at ATC.

If they're going to do this (and I disagree strongly) can they at least say that Jetbikes can't turbo boost with the Relic then?

There won't be a Relic mission at the ATC.

Everyone's going to hate playing against the seer council in this scenario.

So combined with the FAQ ruling that turboboosting units need not actually move, (says models may turbo boost any number of inches in any direction, ending where they start.) Means Eldar bikes can declare turbo, stay staionary, and still shoot.

Everyone just cool their Jetbike Engines (heheh)!

I uploaded a version of the FAQ with that rule in it. It should not have been left in. It was missed in the final proofread.
My apologies, it was in question at one point, but obviously not correct.

Please disregard that bullet point in the Eldar Section!!!!

Again, my apologies.

A couple of answers to the above post:

1 - This has been dropped and should not havve been in the final FAQ that was uploaded (again a new Eldar issue)

"Unless specified otherwise, attacks that cause Instant Death on a to wound roll of 6 still need to be able to wound the target model for Instant Death to be inflicted (e.g. a S4 attack cannot hurt a T8 model even if the attack causes Instant Death on a 6). [pg. 38, W40KRB]"

2 - Only Shrike can join a unit and give it infiltrate cause GW errata'd his rules to allow him to

3 - It is there because the physical tree models get moved around in order to place models in the terrain and then the tree isn't there to cover the model....so we FAQd it to get around those issues.
