Spetulhu wrote:That does raise a couple of questions. First, ofc - does the Pariah trait interfere with geneseed in the first place, so that an Apothecary actually has any reason to look for it?

And more importantly, is the Pariah so well known a condition that an Apothecary could identify it? Are the genetic markers on any checklist from any Imperial organisation? IIRC even an Inquisitor like Eisenhorn had to collect his blanks on his own.

If we assume that a blank/pariah has managed to survive in the feral conditions of a chapter world to the age of selection:

Selection processes are undertaken usually watched by a chaplain, if he somehow doesn't notice the aura of wrongness the boy gives off and he survives the trail he will be taken to the fortress.

At which point apothacaries, librarians (to look for pskers and to test mental fortitude) as well as a ranked officer would be present to oversee the induction. At this point he would be instantly identified and delt with as the chapter sees fit. It must be remembers that the effects a blank/pariah cause cannot be selfcontrolled so will always be active and noticably.

Well they CAN be controlled ,but only the Culexis Temple possesses the means and technology to do so.

And they are NOT sharing.

The people in the past who convinced themselves to do unspeakable things were no less human than you or I. They made their decisions; the only thing that prevents history from repeating itself is making different ones.

your correct there, but my other satement still stand in the emprors gift, it clearly states that there was a blank on titan. I swear it said something about it, its when they go to the burial ground for the GKs.

Can someone please check this?

I will see if I can find it via my ibooks.

Found it. In the book the blank is the Ferryman and he is a Grey Knight, though he has no armor or any weapons. Makes me wonder what use he had before he became what he is now.

I said self control not controlled by technology. A peice of technology a 12 year old feral human will not have access to.

In 'The Emperor's Gift' there is a Blank Grey Knight (Phlegyras a Ferryman who attends the Dead Fields) whose presence causes Hyperion to become incredibly angry and agitated as he struggles to comprehend the nature of the individual before him.

I always thought it would be very unlikely due to the sense of "disgust" other beings feel when being in close proximity to a pariah. However (its probably just James Swallows interpretation of the fluff) but in "Fear to Tread" the pariah woman gives off an aura of calm and comfort rather than repulsion and sickness.
If this is "true" I don't see any reason why space marines wouldn't have them, this kind of "pariah field" seems to make sense of captain Titus' warp resistance.

Honestly, if this kind of field is also accurate, depending on the pariah, then I would actually see plenty of these individuals in the Adeptus Astartes, most notably in the medical corps. You have injured soldiers that you need to keep calm and still while you operate in the midst of a battlefield, it would easily pay to have medical staff that can keep the injured calm so you can save their life.

"There is a cancer eating at the Imperium. With each decade it advances deeper, leaving drained, dead worlds in its wake. This horror, this abomination, has thought and purpose that functions on an unimaginable, galactic scale and all we can do is try to stop the swarms of bioengineered monsters it unleashes upon us by instinct. We have given the horror a name to salve our fears; we call it the Tyranid race, but if is aware of us at all it must know us only as Prey."

Huh, that's interesting. Most interpretations of Pariahs I've read have been of revulsion, people can barely stand to be in the same room with them.

I doubt most Astartes have a problem with lying still and keeping their wits about them while being given battlefield surgery, it's what they're made for after all. The only difficulties might arise among chapters like the Black Templars, where the brother would probably try to shrug off the Apothecary and get pack into the fight.

And then some guy throws a manta at the table and promptly breaks it in half sending figures and terrain everywhere.

If a Pariah (Culexus) is born, the assasin people find them and turn them into a assasin, so they wouldn't be turned into a space marine. I hope you are talking about the Culexus people otherwise this wont help
