Oh... wow.

Did they tell how they got that? It says the only light is from an iPad... so did they use an iPad and some fancy App for that?

It's pretty damn impressive. It would be great for dioramas, I spent a good five minutes scrolling around and exploring .

I shot it with a fisheye on a pro-level dSLR, the iPad was just for lighting as you need a diffuse light source that you can move around with the camera.

Then specialist stitching software on a computer to remap and join the overlapping images.

Aw man, first it's 2001 and we still don't have a moon base, and now the future will still have yams? Where did things go wrong?

Seriously, though, this is pretty awesome.

And then some guy throws a manta at the table and promptly breaks it in half sending figures and terrain everywhere.

Planet Express advertising FTW!

Love the Apple/Windows hybrid logo also.

Very cool.

Absolutely, imagine battle reports with this kind of thing? Fully interactive, allowing you to look around the table.

Looks awesome!

I'd wanted to do one of these at the TTN Paradiso launch but there wasn't time. :(

Excellent, Ian. This would make for amazing battle reports, definitely.

Right.. in your shoes I would actually be on the phone to a certain game company in Nottingham, considering their famous magazine has just gone digital and something like this would serve as a major selling point for it over the paper copy. Just a thought, like

It's a technique that's rather common, I don't exactly think they can copyright it. I just think this is the first stab at it being used in THIS manner, which makes it awesome.

Also it's Infinity and that makes it perfect.

Couldn't you copyright for use on bat reps? Better worded than that of course. I think the main problem would be that it would cost more to do than it's worth.

Well once you have the Equipment and the Software. That's it. I don't imagine there's much more cost than that.

I meant the cost to copyright it.

The image is automatically protected by copyright, it was as soon as it was shot.

As far as patents are concerned, forget it. It's all fairly standard panoramic technique and people have been doing even smaller scale ones than this for years.

As far as GW are concerned, also forget it - I approached them about training them to do 360 degree object movies and they turned round a year later and did it all in-house but with substantially worse viewing software. :(

Well that's a shame, although it doesn't surprise me in the slightest!
