I guess they drink concentrated testosterone, mixed with alcohol just so it's not a virgin drink. Whatever it is, it must be ludicrously masculine. No way could a human drink it.

Björns initiative comes from him being old as feth. But everything else makes sense. Perhaps the Canis Helix is the strongest drink in the universe and all that other drinking is just to get rid of the MASSIVE hangover that could kill marines?
It would explain "the Mark of the Wulfen" which probably means just that some dudes go mad from the headaches and gak. This also causes trouble when reading small pages and text that requires thought. Hence their low interest in Codex Astartes and the fact that they do not have a Librarium, but the great dining hall where their tales are written on walls.

Perhaps it is their sweat, distilled and mixed with Fenrisian wolf saliva and Promethium? And then some Rune priest boils the gak SOMEHOW without burning the promethium with his Living Lightning!
