Hi, this came up in a game this weekend, and I was wondering if anyone on here would have some insight into the issue.

One of the mission objectives was table quarters, needed a scoring unit fully in the table quarter to control it, but any unit could contest.

Mission wording:
"To hold a table quarter, a team must have a scoring unit in a table quarter and no enemy units in the table quarter."

The TO stated the unit must be wholly within the quarter. A ruling was not needed for the flyer in that particular game, as the flyer got shot down on the last turn. This post is for future reference to how this would work.

My question is this: is it possible for a flyer to contest a table quarter?

The BYB states that vehicles are unable to contest an objective, but does this also count for denying control of a table quarter/deployment zone?

Was the objective to have no enemy at all, or no enemy contesting the quarter?

The flyer cannot claim the objective, but might prevent the enemy from claiming by the requirement of no enemies.

What mission were you playing?

Generally vehicles have no strategic use in 6th ed missions, but if you were playing a strange mission where they counted as a contesting unit, then perhaps they might have been.

As for the OLD table quarters, it was usually housed ruled. Generally, the house went with a single unit being able to be in more than one quarter at once, or a single unit is in the table quarter that most of the model is in.

You missed the part of my post where I quoted the actual wording from the missions packet.

This was for a small, local tourney. Was not a rulebook mission, but a custom using some aspects of book missions.

This is a question for the tournament organizer, as the rulebook has no rules for contesting table quarters. Only rules for objectives. One similar situation is the linebreaker secondary objective, which states that vehicles cannot score linebreaker.

Based on the intention laid out in the rulebook, it would seem that no vehcile should be able to contest a table quarter. But, again, there is no actual rules for contesting table quarters so the organizer would have the final say.

The only situation where I've had fliers contest objectives is in the rulebook mission in which fast attack could do so.

Considering they are not scoring or denial units past that, I'd say they would not count for scoring, BUT the rule packet did say "and no enemy units in the table quarter." - which would count the flier, since it is an enemy unit.

The rules as ritten for that mission allows ANY enemy unit to contest the table quarter, which would include fliers.

This.

The rulebook has no rules for quadrants, and the phrasing in that mission does not make flyers an exception, so they'd be treated just like any other vehicle.

Ok, so it would have worked there, but generally no, as flyers are not generally a denial unit?

Thanks for the quick responses guys.

Flyers, like all vehices, are not denial units.
