Good day all.

First I must stress this thread is not intended to be a "what's the best army thread".

Now that's out of the way, I want to know what you're opinions are on what armies are fun to play with, and against and why.

I want a new army as mine is just boring me to death (Grey Knights). So I want a fun replacement. I enjoy rolling lost of dice for next to no reason or consequence, just for the sake of rolling really. A bit like Gift of Mutation for Chaos (Out of the god knows how many games I've played with these guys I don't think this as ever helped once, but it was fun to see).

Thanks
Ed

Well guard roll the most dice... If you like tanks, or lots and lots of men, then might be worth looking into guard?
Would even make nice allies for your gray knights as you build them up...

I have heard that orks are quite fun as well, and I would guess you can still get a lot of dice to roll.

Orks Orks Orks orks Orks ORKS ORK Orks orks.

I'll give you a hint, it's one of those.

I play IG and orks and I can assure you, Orks are WAY more fun than IG. They roll just as many dice as IG does and can have just as many dudes and almost as many metal boxes. Plus they're still plenty strong so you won't feel like you're going to get stomped unless you just roll up a hard counter (which is true for every army)

Seriously OP, check out Orks. They've got a guy who went back in time and killed himself so he could have 2 of his favorite shoota, a guy who jumped his bike off a cliff. rammed its way through a titan's voidshields (catching fire in the process) and then doing what you expect a 1/2 ton of flaming ork and warbike to do in a princeps bridge. They even had a Warboss lead a WAAAAGH! straight into the eye of terror because he couldn't find any good fights otherwise. I wish they had more fluff though, its always so much fun to read.

Cheers for the pointers.

I was looking at those 2 armies. I've played Orks before but I played a Kan Wall/Foot Nob list.

I had a quick look at the Guard 'Dex, they look fun, was thinking punishers, griffons, vendettas and Vets with flamers.

Orkwise many people I've spoke to seem to want to run bikers. But I'm not a terrible fan, what would you guys suggest?

Cheers

Orks are the true 'For Fun' army as halarity is built into them! (just read the story in the codex about 'Tuska da Daemon Killa')

Daemons are another really fun army and you get to roll tonnes of dice with them - especially for your deployment since you must always deep strike into play! Heck, a Daemonic deployment looks like;
a) divide your army into 2 equal halves.
b) roll to see which half deploys first.
c) roll to deep strike half your army into play!
d) roll each turn to see what units pop out of reserve, then roll again to deep strike them into play!

If you like rolling buckets of dice, a Tzeentch + Slaanesh mix of units will do just that;
- Horrors each get a S4/ap4 assault 3 'gun'. Meanwhile, Flamers get that same ability, or the Breath of Chaos template attack which can of corse pile up the hits pretty fast!

- Screamers & Daemonettes get 4 attacks each on the charge.
The Screamers attacks are ap2 and armourbane, while Daemonettes have the rending trait.

- Seekers & Fiends get even more attacks on the charge! Hell, a full unit of 6 Fiends rolls a stagering 36 attacks on the charge! Take that Orks!

- The new Slaaneshii chariots can roll silly amounts of HoW attacks. The 4HP Exalted Seeker Chariot can roll upto 4D6 HoW attacks if it's still at max HP's.

Would that be enough dice rolling for you?!

I third this with a might of a thousand sons. And I might add, that warboss who led a WAAAGH into the EoT, yeah he ended up in the chaos plane of Khorne, the Chaos God of Blood, Skulls, Hatred, and Battle. There he fought a daemon prince of khorne for days on end, before the beast struck him down. With his dying breaths, however, as the daemon prince was looming over him, he reached up, with his power klaw, and removed the prince's pride and joy, as a final act of defiance.

Just goes to show you, even if you manage to put a ork down, he still might chop your dick off.

I think Tyranids are fun, I like to run 60+ hormogaunts and when they charge....so many dice. plus nids get to roll dice to spawn new nids. thats always good.

i like playing as and agenced orks its funny when your oponent yells out WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH! or to do so your self also when some of your ork vehicles die you get to roll on a funny table instead of the regular one.

also playing agenced eldar beat this one eldar player once when he wanted to have a shooty battle with my tau fun part was at the end when i heard him say "just as planed" and did that mr burns thing off the simpsons

guard are also funny my brother kept having his commissar kill people.

i think alot of the fun is how you play along or react with your armys. i like to insult my orks in my best ork voice when those gits start geting stomped

ORKS! the enormous amount of conversions you can apply to converting models is epic. and they can take looted wagons, so you can take a tank from another army and make it Orky. I have Basilisk with parts from an Orc (WHFB) Chariot. No two Ork armies look the same, ramshackle everything. If you like being creative with modeling they're the way to go. Most sluggas (Boyz) just have a slugga and a choppa, so as long as you have a gun/grenade of some kind you can give them knives, spears, axes, swords, and even spare arms from biker squads. Unless possibilities

WAAAGH!!!

This is obviously just my opinion, but those armies are boring mainly because of their connection to the empire and the emprah. Their fluff is just... boring. Plus their play styles don't have enough versatility.

You haven't lived till you've played the 2,000pt foot guard list of doom with a 100 endlessly respawning conscripts.

I will admit, IG loses to Orks, but it's a pretty close matchup. I've found the key to having fun with IG is to find some sort of target type you REALLY want dead (aka I'm going to kill all his infantry on objectives, no matter what, even if it loses me the game) Then proceed to show up with 9 colossi, a few hellhounds, and some vendettas with the cover ignoring missiles and flamer vets.

Lists like that have a hard time winning obviously, but the look on your opponent's face when he realizes that yes, IG literally has a tank for every role you can imagine, it's pretty funny

Fun Army = Orks

However, by fun I mean goofy units with goofy rules that lead to goofy games.

some people equate fun to armies that stomp most lists, but considering you think GK are boring I don't think this is the case.

Necrons are the army I find to be the most "fun". I love the tricks they have. I love that the necron book has moves that make your opponent upset because they are "psychologically" broken. The rules for them are not overpowered in the least.

Things like the 2+ table wide dangerous terrain. Or forcing nightfight on your opponent. Mind shackle scarabs, and reanimation protocols. I love doing all of these things. not because any of them are overly strong. But because they are kind of "troll" abilities built into the game. It is the same reason I love taking saint celestine. Oh you killed her? k she is back. oh dead again? back again.

If you don't like trolling your opponent though with a grin on your face the entire time. I suppose something simpler like rolling lots of dice can be fun. I definitely enjoy rolling tons of dice. I love the sheer number of dice I get to roll when my daemonettes hit something. I also love rolling those "miracle" saves. The fact I always get my 6+ invuln save on my sisters is a lot of fun. because while unreliable, i love reminding my opponent I get it. When my opponent lines up that las cannon shot and gets a pen against my exorcist and throws out a "and you won't get cover" i love butting in "but i do get my invuln. oh look a 6" I can lose the game after that. That moment alone is worth playing that game.

When in doubt burn it, then burn yourself for doubting.

Hi,

Yeah I play against necrons, they're fun but they don't roll enough hopless dice.

I've made a list http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/490093.page in anyone is curious.

Thanks again
