Hello, I am going to be heading down into the US in a few weeks and I am really
hoping to get a break from gws pricing up in Canada, I was wondering if there are any stores in Detroit or Chicago or in between that sell 40k at 20% or so off? If so thanks for the help.

You should order from Miniature Market. 25% discount, and free shipping on orders of $99 or more.

Taking 94 or 96 through Michigan? Are you coming across the Blue Water or through Windsor?
Cant very well point you to stores that could be 45 -1:30 North or South of your intended route.
Either way you go there will be several that sell at 20-30% off.

Coming through Windsor yea, 94 or 96 time difference isn't that much, depends on where a store is we will take that route. Just most stores that I have looked on the map don't advertise prices online. Thanks again Automatically Appended Next Post: helium42 wrote:You should order from Miniature Market. 25% discount, and free shipping on orders of $99 or more.

I don't recall seeing anywhere that offers instore discounts of 20%, stores tend to have things like overhead to pay for.
Plenty of places that offer 10% but that's about as deep of a discount as you'll find around Chicago.
Games Plus is located in Des Plains and they have a discount feature of sorts that works out to be around 10%. (but then you get to pay IL's awesome 9.5% sales tax)
If you are staying in town for a bit your best bet is to place your order on a website and have it shipped to the hotel or place you are staying.

In fairness, Ontario's "Harmonized" Sales Tax is a yet more awesome 13%. And that's on top of an inflated MSRP.
Games Plus is a fantastic store, but it's quite a hike from Chicago proper. Like 40 minutes NW of downtown in reasonable traffic. And traffic is rarely reasonable.
I don't know of anywhere in the Chicagoland area that offers an immediate discount on GW. Those 10% discounts tend to be loyalty program type things (buy $100 worth of goods, get a $10 store credit).

I'd buy in Michigan if your looking to save the most. 6% sales tax. I'm not sure about up in Chicago, but down in this part of Illinois I pay a nearly 9% sales tax. I know that in this state each County can change their rate, so it may be differant up there, but seeing as it's Chicago I doubt it's much differant.

Chicagoland area doesnt have many gaming stores and I'm not sure any of them sell GW at a discount.
Though if your in the chicagoland area a trip to games plus is a requirement as its one of the best gaming stores in the country IMO

RIW in Livonia is right off of 96 coming through Detroit at 5 Mile and Middlebelt. They're pretty much what you're looking for.

If your on 96 RIW is where I'd go I'd also stop at Game Links in Fowlerville if the owner knows your coming he'll probably cut you a deal. If its fantasy your after there is a crappy little game store in Brighton mi that has nothing new but has LOADS of out of print fantasy figures. I mean loads of them still in the box.
If your taking 94 I'd stop at Get Your Game On, they offer an all the time discount on most GW stuff. Plus Ann Arbor is a super cool town.

If your coming through Sarnia, then taking I94 through detroit, then heading north on I275 to 14/96, then to middlebelt and 5 mile is your best bet for RIW.
Pandaemonium is in Dearborn 10 min from the highway, but they don't have as large a discount. They do carry a small selection of forgeworld stuff and have a large stock of GW stuff then RIW though.

Chicagoland Games Dice Dojo keeps a stock of second hand GW. Sometimes it's alot, sometimes it's slim, but it's usually a great deal and it's in the city limits of Chicago. No notable discounts on new GW though.
http://www.chicagolandgames.com/
I'd second the suggestion to visit Games Plus. It's not going to give you a discount on GW beyond their loyalty program, but it is one of the best stocked miniature gaming stores in the US.
All the odd and unique miniatures lines (and many of the bits lines) games and terrain companies that you hear about online... Games+ has many/most of them in stock so you can see the products in person. They also often stock the entire line, so you'll find more than an entire wall of Reaper and huge battletech and Privateer press sections. They also have quite a few bargain bins, though you're not going to see much GW stuff.
Also, it's only a 40 minute drive from Chicago. Also, if you're staying downtown, it's right on the train line.
