Hi all,

From previous experience, what is the expected sale that will happen? I know that

* Battle Foam is having their annual 25% off this year
* Reecus from Front Line Gaming seems to be taking more orders with extra % off
* GW is having their holiday mega force deals (probably better deals can be had by buying those via online stores).

What other sale am I missing? Any words from KR or KR distributors?

After Thanksgiving, it's called Black Friday because its the only "day" that the stores operate in the black and don't "lose" money... I don't understand that aspect. All I know is people get up at the crack of dawn for 78 USD flat screen tvs...

I believe it's actually the point when the Year To Date switches over from red to black. Otherwise they'd tank pretty fast!

Most retail stores operate close to break even until this point. The holiday sales allow retail companies to actually make money.

Yes, that's what I said, more or less. The point at which the year goes from treading water to making money. As opposed to the only day in which profits are made. That's an untenable business model.

This kind of stuff angers me. So glad I got out of retail.

GW Rules Interpretation Syndrom. GWRIS. Causes people to second guess a rule in a book because that's what they would have had to do in a GW system.

It's honestly a really terrible day that just tends to showcase people's greed and inconsiderate nature for other human beings(lots of stories about people getting trampled in the first rush through the doors, getting beaten up for cheap merchandise, etc).

That said, I'm all for online Black Friday deals, where you don't have to leave the comfort of your own home to shop. I believe Kenzerco is doing a big sale, they'll be announcing it tomorrow(Wednesday the 21st).

How good of a deal is Battlefoam's 25% off? I hear that shipping on those bags is horrendous. Are you actually saving a decent amount, or does the price with shipping still come close to the normal retail even with 25% discount?

Sabol's Army Transport bags are on sale.

Apparently the items are marked down on the site and if you use a special coupon code (gobble) you get an extra 10% off your order.

The War Store is also having a sale. http://www.thewarstore.com/blackfridayapproaches.html

Miniature Market is having an additional 8% off and 4 times reward points for orders from the 23rd to the 26th if you use the code: BLK212

Balance in pick up games? Two people, each with their own goals for the game, design half a board game on their own without knowing the layout of the board and hope it all works out. Good luck with that. The faster you can find like minded individuals who want the same things from the game as you, the better.

It's in stock items only though. And not GW products. And while Miniature Market has great stock levels, I expect some people won't get what they want at the extra 8% off.

I just placed a large order with Miniwargaming. They have 25% off GW & PP and 40% off Mantic and Spartan. Couldn't resist the deal for the Spartan stuff. I find it hard to find a lot of their figures in stock let alone deeply discounted.

In regards to the black in black friday, in fiscal terms tye year doesnt (usually) start on January 1st ;P

I did the battlefoam thing last year, not sure it was worth it... 25% off is great but youre paying 50 bucks in shipping for a decent qty of stuff.

MinatureMarket offers a standard 25% off of GW stock all year round. They have a Black Friday sale for their fairly extensive line of non-GW products that offers an additional 8% off of whatever their current price is that weekend. Check out the link:

The big two that are making recent news are Walmart and Target, both of which have stores that are starting sales on Thursday at 8 PM. Which unfortunately means that a lot of people will be forced to work instead of going to Thanksgiving dinner, because stores need to be ready to go a while before opening time.

Walmart employees across the nation are actually threatening to walk out on Black Friday/Thursday, too (mainly due to unfair labor practices, not specifically because of the Black Thursday thing). Should be entertaining...

Here is the text from Neal's email:
TheWarStore.com Newsletter
November 21st, 2012 Edition
In this issue:

•Black Friday Sale Information!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Black Friday Madness!
Once a year we descend into lunacy, and actually have a SALE...

The exciting clearance sales will be on our site starting at Midnight Eastern, but first check out some basic Black Friday Information.
Please read carefully!

•At its heart Black Friday is an extra 5% discount on everything we sell! Woo Hoo! I must be nuts. Anyway, when using the shopping cart just type the words "Black Friday" into the coupon section of the checkout screen. BAM! An extra 5% off the order total! It's like internet magic!

Please Note: YOU MUST ENTER THE CODE TO GET THE DISCOUNT!

•There is more to Black Friday than just the extra discount! Check out the website tonight for special purchase deals, overstock sales, our world famous mega bits bags and other gaming madness!

•Black Friday is more than just Friday! Black Friday internet hours actually extend from 12:01AM Thursday Morning the 22th to 11:59 PM Monday the 26th. Black Friday store/phone order hours are Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday 9AM-9PM. All times are Eastern US. No phone hours on Thursday (it's a US Holiday!).

•Help us out! If it is on the website please don't call in the order! We are going to be jammed as it is and my people work cheap. The site uses SSL (Secure Sockets Layer) protocol, and is SAFE! Please use the shopping cart! Help us keep the phone lines open!

•We can't add new shopping cart orders to shopping cart orders already placed! Normally we have no problem combining two shopping cart orders to save on shipping. However with the huge influx of Black Friday orders and the amount of packages and order pickers flying around over here, I just wont be able to get it together. Hopefully you will save enough with the sale to offset a second shipping charge!

•Try to keep bits orders separate from regular orders! Bits orders are now being shipped from our new bits warehouse/shipping point. If at all possible, please keep your bits orders separate from orders of non-bits items.

•Important Games Workshop Order Information: Please note the Black Friday discount is an extra 5% off the order total, NOT GW at 25% off (there is a slight difference in the math, even if it isn't immediately apparent). Our software doesn't change prices, it applies a 5% discount to the order total.

Enjoy the Black Friday Madness! It is the least we could do to say, "Thanks All" for a great year!

Sincerely,
Neal and Crew

I wonder how many people will be trampled to death at Walmart this year.

I'd rather just buy online during Cyber Monday than deal with the crazed soccer moms fist-fighting over the last Xbox.

In the Think tank that I meet once a month we call it "The Idiot Effect". Get enough idiots together thinking that they are going to get that "really good deal" and mayhem ensues.

Adam's Motto: Paint, Create, Play, but above all, have fun. -and for something silly below-

Also, how does one apply to be a member of the Ultramodrines? Are harsh trials involved, ones that would test my faith as a wargamer and resolve as a geek?

None of these things are true; and should not be repeated. Do you guys really think a business could operate with only earning profits from a single day, or that they lose money for nearly 11 months out of the year? Does that seem like it could possibly be true?

The true origins make a lot more sense and stand up even today, it was simply a reflection of how crappy a day it was with so many shoppers acting like cattle stampeding.

It's also not the busiest holiday of the shopping year, that's generally the last normal weekday before Christmas because as a country; we shop like I do term papers.

"Cyber Monday" is an even sleazier, made up, not-real thing made by a commercial marketing group to invent another stupid fake holiday. The pretenses of this are so flimsy I can't even be bothered to drop a url and sneered with disgust as I typed this.

Going on topic now I got a mondo bitz bag from the Warstore. Maybe this year I'll score the top half of that Baneblade.
