Thought i would turn this into a WIP thread as someone expressed interest in updates (also saves me having to open a new thread and further clog up the boards)

Spoiler:
I am looking to replace my Chaos termiantor Lord and quite like the idea of a single Cataphractii armoured model to lead my grand Company.

I have managed to get hold of a thunderhammer and bolter...but can't find a website that has any of the main bits in stock.

So far i have tried:

Let the Dice Decide
Bitz Box
Bitz and Kits

Can any body help me? I've priced it up and doing this actually works out cheaper than buying the plastic Chaos terminator Lord kit, depending on postage of course.

Kind of what i've done. I am buying the set and keeping the sergeant. The other are being sold to a couple of friends at a slight discount. Basically i will end up paying £9 for a Cataphractii terminator lord - still £6 cheaper than the platic Lord kit from GW and looks a lot nicer. one friend is gogin to put them with the kit he already has for a 6 man squad of Slaaneshi Cataphractii, plus a Lord. The other firned is intending to have a mixed armour squad of Deathwing terminators - i think he wants a coupe of Tartaros suits as well.

Will have to see what i can do to "chaos" him up without ruining the look of the armour.

You can always wait till the release of the chaos versions, justaerin terminators. If you already bought the one use it as a proxy until then? Im hoping to see them around Christmas as the sneak peak looked amazing

Justaerin aren't Chaos Terminators, they're a specifically Sons of Horus/Luna Wolves (and I guess by extension Black Legion) terminator unit.

They sell individual bitz and pieces from FW minitaures. They might not stock everything you want though, but they do Cataphractii bitz. Hope this helps

That is true, but with some tender loving and some icon removal they look a lot more traitor-is then the normal cataphractii. Would you agree?

They are certainly much more Chaotic than the Cataphractii. You can tell because they are covered in spikes.

Haha exactly a great addition to any army tho and I heard rumors of death guard specific terminators with hallblades but I'm sorry I can remember the name. But as for myself the normal cataphractii will have to suffice for my imperial fists...

I am goign for the normal ones as i am plitting the kit with 2 other people. I'm taking the sergeant for my IW army with a hammer (pointed up as a powerfist), 2 are going to my friends pre-heresy Emps Kids army, and 2 are going to another friend who wants to make a mixed armour pattern Deathwing unit.

Well you won't be disappointed! I bought 15 and the detail is incredible. I had a few cast issues but nothing a call to forge world can't fix ;-)
When the time comes I plan on ordering more! will we see him painted at all?

Oh i think so. I have ordered his weapon off a bitz site already. Standard Phobos pattern bolter and a Thunderhamme which i am converting into a pole-axe (so it has both a hammer and an axe head).

I had to convert it as Chaos termies can't have hammers and i wanted to give my lord the Axe of Blind Fury or a powerfist depending on the game. By havign a weapon with both hammer and axe heads it gives me a bit more lee-way.

I've got a WIP pic of it somewhere.....

EDIT - found one.

I still need to extend the handle a little to make it look like it could be a 2 handed weapon.

Ha, that could work. i was struggling to find a 40k weapon with a long enough handle.

To the bitz websites!!!

Ended up using the bottom bit of a CSm banner pole. It's just the right width!

Here's the progress so far. Need to have rummage for soem bits to make him look more chaos-y.

The pole-axe handle has been extended so it's actually a little bit longer and just behind him.

Getting the alternate head to fit was a bit of a mare. You basically need to cut it (or any marine scale head) from just below the jaw at an upward angle to about halfway up the back of the head. For some reason the space for the head on the FW model is built at an angle. I only noticed this after a couple of heads were ruined and i had a closer look at the bare head that comes with the kit.

I'm using Loctite Gel Precision superglue so no need for pinning so far. If you use the thin GW superglue for example you might need to pin the hands at least. the model is surprisingly weighty once you get it all together.

Did the base last ngiht. I wanted to make him a little taller to ake him stand out. When he's on the base his left foot will be on the rhino door and his right foot fits between the shoulder pad and marine helmet.

Just got the final highlights and detail work to do. Decided not to put any spikes and stuff on him as it might ruin the model.

Also, i'm never sure how to do faces. I did this one with a mix of Tallarn flesh and Vallejo "Dead Flesh" (about 1:1 mix). once that had dried i did a light coat of devlan mus wash, followed by a light brush over fo the same flesh colour as before to pick up the raised areas. It's not bad but i'm not 100% happy with it.

Looks great! Great job. I find I quiet ironic that you chose to adding dead imperial fists, as that's my army. As for the face though i cant really see it. But i would recommend orygn flesh wash instead of devlin mud, I find it make it far too dark. Also If you have a chance you should look at my Cataphractii terminator.

The face isn't great to be honest. i was going to try stripping it and repainting but i don't want to risk ruining the rest of the model as i am really happy with how everything else turned out.

Thanks for the tip though, i'll have to go and get some.
