As you may or may not know my girlfriend and I are very much into the reptilian hobbyist scene. She runs a popular blog on Tumblr dedicated to the conservation and education revolving around reptiles and the hobby itself. Today she found something extremely disgusting;
Now, you may or may not know a lot about snakes however, it should be obvious that this is abuse. Not a single snake in the video is aquatic and they have just been DUMPED into this appearing-to-be freezing water where they are struggling to get out of the bin. As the singer is being lowered into the bin (which most of them are wearing high heeled shoes) they are kicking at the snakes which can easily cause broken bones. These snakes (if they don't drown, that is) can have respitory issues later down the road and even lead to death.
Now, here's the fun part--this show claims that not a single animal was hurt within filming. Now isn't that a load? You can see with your own eyes that this isn't right, that this is abuse.
If you're not a reptile lover but have other pets just think: what if they were taking 60 dogs, cats, birds, hamsters (anything really) and throwing them in that bin? How fast do you think that show would be cancelled?--Pretty fast. Help us do the same for our scaly friends.
Ps. They also threw in two small alligators WITH the snakes--smart, aren't they?

Now I'm not any kind of snake expert or anything, but arn't just about all snakes good swimmers? Aquatic or not. Those looked like pythons, which are IIRC a swamp snake.
The kicking is an issue for sure, although I would be shocked if they didn't have Vets and handlers standing by monitoring the situation.

Self-proclaimed evil Cat-person. Dues Ex Felines
Cato Sicarius, after force feeding Captain Ventris a copy of the Codex Astartes for having the audacity to play Deathwatch, chokes to death on his own D-baggery after finding Calgar assembling his new Eldar army.
Regardless of how well they can swim, that's ice water. With ice floating in it. Snakes have no innate ability to increase their body temperature, the shock could kill them, and they'd certainly be very sick afterward if they did live.

You are correct they can indeed swim, but not to that extent they are obviously drowning and sinking because the amount of snakes.
As policy Team Wienie believes that the only good snakes are dead snakes hanging from their jaws, but thats just stupid.

They sure as hell won't be able to swim if the icewater shuts down their metabolism. Not to mention the physical trauma they will receive from being kicked and dumped together in buckets.
This is absolutely vile. Our television really is starting to resemble the last days of Rome.
Signed your petition. What prick came up with this idea? I feel the need to visit them in the wee small hours of the night and reeducate them.
Do we even know what species of snake it is? Perhaps it is best not to jump to conclusions until you know 100% which species of snake it is, all we can tell for sure is that it is some sort of snake that is predominately brown.

facts about snakes:
-Snakes don't like being kicked
-Snakes are cold blooded, if it's cold around them they die, they need warmth to stay warm
-Snakes are quite fragile animals (see first fact)
Things seen in this show:
-Snakes being kicked
-Snakes in Ice water
-really bad taste in TV

Me being a vivid herp hobbyist will inform you.
Ball python ( Africa hot and dry, no deep ice cold water with people kicking here )
Boa constrictor ( Columbia etc hot and humid not cold )
Basically not very good for snakes.
ALSO!!!
Thank you very much for signing the petition. I inappropriate it very much.
Now you see thats pretty much what figured. Wheres the fun and entertainment in getting in the water if they are all sluggish and non threatening. I'd quite willingly get in the water with almost any snake if it had been chilled down to nothing before hand. Theres no excitment in it at all.
They should throw a pissed off tiger snake in there with her. Now THATS entertainment.
Couldnt even watch half the video before i was feeling sick and angrier than i have felt in a long time. Snakes need warmth to live hence why there are no snakes in the cold parts of this world. They are also quite delicate and no matter how good a swimmer you are you will drown if the surface is coverd with others trying to get out.
If i lived near this which sadly i do not i would do something forcible and extreme to the show.
ive signed you petition and consider it backed by MOO

I would have just assumed this was all controlled properly, the animals were safe and they had trained snake handlers there, had I seen it on TV (then probably flicked over because the show looks terrible). But going by what the people on this thread, who clearly know more about snakes than I do, have said it's clearly not right. As such I'd rather believe that this hasn't raised more alarm because people assume it's all kosha rather than because people don't care about snakes.

Out of curiosity, are these poisonous snakes?

I don't think Pythons and Boas are a threat to humans because of their poison, so much as the way they constrict their prey... They're definitely poisonous though. Otherwise they would never get around their prey in the first place!
I'd rather not watch the video, the description is enough, petition signed.
Doesn't sound right at all, why did they say no animals harmed? I assume they are saying these are real snakes, they only way they could say no animals harmed is by pretending the snakes are fake, hence deeming the desired fear factor, or they are just stupid and don't think snakes are animals.

No, ball pythons and boa's are not poisonous. They only constrict and even other snakes are not poisonous the correct term is venomous because poison is entered orally and venom enter through the blood stream
ALSO thank you all for the signatures ! i love you all
