Take the nob, always. But I think a battlewagon is a better ride for the Big mek. It's sturdier, and wont be shot down as easily.

Remember Trukks are Armor (lol)
Battlewagons with Front Armor 14 with a 5+ cover at the worst is what's needed (Imo at least for a Mek to ride in)

Shoota boyz just seem better in 6th. Its all I'm running now and I started switching to them in 5th.
Deffrolla is all that and so much more.

If you're taking a battlewagon, may aswell put lootas or burnas in it with the deffrolla

15 burnas is my preferance, with 2 of them being meks with rokkit launchers.
Battlewagon with def rolla, armour plates, red paint job, zzap gun and 4 big shootas.
Along with a big mek inside with KFF for the save.

Can repair 3 hull points a turn on a 4+

Or lootas in a battlewagon, giving them the armour they need, and still having 48" range, and if something drop pods or deep strikes in, deff rolla them or run away faster tha tthey can chase, while shooting them with the lootas.

Shoota boyz are good, but imo keep them in trucks They're not worthy of a battlewagon

If irc, they are S7 AP4 guns. At the beginning of each shooting phase you roll a d3 and each Deffgun can fire that many shots. so you roll a 4 with a unit of 10 lootas you fire 20 S7 AP4 shots.

Sounds like you have a lot to learn. I don't know what to tell you man,

Ap stands for armorpiercing: How well the weapon pierces armor (cancels armor saves)
WS stands for Weapon Skill: How well someone hits and defends against cc attacks.
BS stands for Ballistic Skill: How accurate someone is with ranged weapons.
S stands for Strength: How easy it is to wound a model.
T stands for toughness: How easy it is to shrug off wounds.
Beyond that I'd say buy the book.

EDIT: how do you have over 300 posts on this site and not know the basics of the game?

Because he posted a gakload of threads, and replys to them often Builds the post-count no end.

My advice.

Buy a paper codex and a rulebook. You can't really do without either if you are going to play this game. Digital codexes are ok for reference, but paper is best, especially when an opponent wants to see your codex to understand one of your unit's rules. YMMV of course.

Read them THOROUGHLY, and then start thinking tactics.

Buy a small force to start off with, then build up.

Forget tournaments until you learn the rules. Nothing PO's a tournament opponent like someone having to ask what basic gaming terms mean all the time.

Play a few games, try a few things. Get some demo games in at the FLGS if you can.

Feel free to PM me or ask questions on Dakka if you want. We can provide you with considerable help for playing Orks. There's some damn fine Ork players on here.

That said, you'll not learn the game if you need to be provided with everything on a platter. We learn best by playing.

If you ask a question that is readily available in the rulebook or codex (like what certain units in your army's codex are or who Ghazgkull Thraka is ) expect most people to tell you to read your book or give you a page reference. Sure, it's not immediately helpful, but you really do need to read your codex and rulebook through a bunch of times to play this game properly and be fully aware of your units and what they can do.

This advice is not meant as an insult, in case you want to take it that way. Some of these were hard-learned lessons from my own experience that i'm passing on to you gratis

Welcome to exactly why i posted what I did on the first page... I wasnt just being a dick.

I dont know why you chose orks as your first army, and are trying to make an army list, if you dont even know what the stats are, or what they mean.

twice now you've asked what lootas are. You say you have a codex, and still havent looked and want us to tell you everything...

I'm all for helping new players, with legitimate questions, but not when they flat out refuse to help themselves.

Exactly don't answer if you can't!, and sorry I don't know what they all me jeez it's like I a repeat offense fellon, just thinking of leaving and forgetting this hobby of this is what I'll deal with, it's not worth it, and going of track not talking about the topic will get another one my threads shut down thanks to people constantly ripping on me

I couldn't be bothered with the rulebook when I started either.

Do you have a Games Workshop store in your area? The staff there would be more than happy to teach you the basics of the game. Once you get a grasp of it, reading the rulebook and the codex will feel much more fun and giving.

And don't care about the people ripping on you. If that's how they choose to spend their time, then it's their loss. Not yours.

I'm sorry to say that, but Dragonzord has a point.

I second angel of ecstasy, if you truly wish to start playing this game, go to your local gaming store and talk with people over there. Have them teach you how to play the game, and when it's done, come back here.

Right now anything people will say is useless to you since you obviously haven't got the slightest idea of what they're talking about.

Thats my exact point, right there.

I'm not ripping on the dude, i'm more than happy to help him and give him advice for orks. However if he does not know the basics of the game, like the very first page of the rulebook, then it all means nothing to him. Myself and others have been saying this in every thread he makes, to get the rulebook and read it so that he understands the answers to his questions.

Fair request, no? Why ask questions when you will not understand the answers.

If you're going to quit the hobby because people, like myself, are 'ripping' on you, then that makes me sad for it is trully a great hobby. But one that you must invest time and money into, neither of which you seem to have the ability to, or the interest in doing so..

Do you at least have a friendly local gaming store that stocks Game Workshop products? That'd be another way to find people to teach you how to play.

While some of the responses in this thread could have been a little more polite, I'm a little puzzled as to just what you are expecting from it. You're not going to learn to play the game over a forum thread like this... It's just too complicated. So if you don't have a rulebook, and don't have anyone who can teach you to play, you're nailing jelly to a tree.

If you're actually interested in playing the game, I would strongly recommend picking up the rulebook and giving it a thorough read before going any further with planning an army list.

If you're just interested in collecting the miniatures, and have no realistic way of playing the game (which is so far sounding like the situation you are in) then just buy what you like and ignore the army list. You can always tweak your collection later if you do get the chance to start playing.
