So I've been looking around to see what people think of the Storm Talon in 6th ed now that it's an actual flier; in 5th it was basically a glorified land speeder, so wasn't amazing, though I can't seem to find anything.

So DakkaDakka, what do we think, is the Stormtalon any good in 6th ed?

Personally, I want it to be, but the without being able to switch the AssCans for something with similar range to the typhoon or skyhammer, it feels like it can't really take advantage of either.

Its great, the way it blows up hitting all the passengers and the dreadnought with a str10 hit they cant save against that also hits the rear armour of the dreadnought for an autopen!

I love killing 400+ points with a single shot.

That would be a Stormraven, then.

Well, it's a very cheap, mobile and hard to kill model that with it's assault cannon and lascannon, can handle any targets.

I use them as above for an anti tank and elite infantry role. Point for point, three of them do more damage than my two tactical squads with lasbacks and lascannon...

P. 37, BA codex, states it takes a rear armor hit if the vehicle explodes for embarked dreadnoughts.

Well mine is still on sprues in its box as I've not had time to put it together yet. I'm hopeful it will be a success. It has good weaponry and is not particularly expensive.

Fingers crossed and all that jazz

That same page also says it's a S4 hit, just saying.

which it still does if it is in hover mode. But if it is acting as a flier then it gets a str 10 hit.

The answer is...there is no answer

Dies in hover mode = S4 hit on rear
Dies in flier mode = S10 hit....doesn't say where

You could take the BA codex and hover mode as a precedence, or try to argue something else, but no argument is going to be correct because the transport rules are fairly vague and don't cover transported vehicles.

I've not played with a Stormtalon, but I've played against them.
I must say they are very irritating to face.
I have Marine playing friends who swear by them.

If the thought of something makes me giggle for longer than 15 seconds, I am to assume that I am not allowed to do it.

I like using my one stormtalon, its a good source of anti air and its very mobile

I feel its a little on the pricy side though, especially if your opponent has anti air or fliers to shoot it with.

I just like watching people trying to roll to hit and fail. also I had a very good experience against necrons, where it was pretty much an anti scarab beast

Are you referring to the Storm Raven? OP was asking about the storm talon which BA can't take.

No no, I don't like quoting.

I was referring to the post before the one you are referencing.

I've had a stormtalon in my army for a few months now and I've had good success with it vs. the heldrakes I frequently see. it's been a bit hit or miss vs. ground targets, but I run it primarily for air superiority anyway. I just finished painting up a second one

I've faced them several times and they've never killed more than three models before I shoot it down, my rune priest with living lightning single handedly takes them down with ease.

Can't field em as SW but to be frank I would not want to I think they are as worthless as speeders.

I run two at 1500 points with white scars bikes and I love them. Great for anti-air and bs5 on ground targets using straffing run. Super cheap using the assault cannon and sky hammer missile launcher setup.
