A raided with a mounted kabalite squad arre more potent than a ravenger. Why use them?

"Archon Yulliptidon sat apon a throne made of polished glass, which gleamed with magnificence in the rays of the dying suns, beautifully suspended above the the many razor sharp peaks that where Commorragh. The archon held within his hands a a delicate pyramid of sculpted crystal, from which emitted a faint glow, an echo of the soundless screams of pain belonging to countless tortured souls forever trapped within. The room in which the archon sat in was something like a throne room, but displayed apon the walls where helm of every color, but all the same in size and shape. Some bore eagles on their foreheads, and others still contained the decapitated heads of their previous owners. Two huge, beautifully carved iron double doors, engraved with intricate runes of pain and suffering, opened at the far end of the room, to reveal a tall, elegant dark eldar warrior, clad in armor made from bone and flesh. "lord Yulliptidon, you asked for my presence?" Said the arrival, " to what do I owe the pleasure?". The archon raised his elongated head, skin as pale as a full moon, eyes as vivid as a horrible nightmare. " I did not ask for you, Thrayon, I ordered your presence. Do not think to much for your self, for truly, you are not much past a feral that one would find on the streets. As for why I have ordered you to my palace, it is because their is a task that I wish you to preform. I wish you and you kabal to cleanse the imperial out fort of Sargosain Gastienagan." Thrayon was both aghast and interested at what the archon had just said. "Such a task would stretch my kabal to its limits, only a great reward would be enough to do a deed like this." Yulliptidon was outraged by the the proposal of a "great reward" by Thrayon, but did not let his anger show, hiding it with a cold smile that hid his evil intentions surprisingly well. The archon was was famous for never telling a lie in his life, but was very fond of veiled double speak, and this was no exception. "Do not worry, Thrayon, you shall receive what you deserve." Thrayon, happy with this outcome, left to carry out Yulliptidons task. Little did he know what was coming. Thrayon had done a thousand evil deeds, and what he deserved was a horrible death equal to to all those he had caused. Yulliptidons smiled. He was going to have fun."

Hahahah, what?

No.

Not even close.

A Ravager is a cheap anti-tank platform in the heavy support slot.

A raider is a dedicated transport.

They aren't... even remotely comparable. Never mind the fact that you'd need three raiders to get the same number of dark lances, ravagers have heavier armor, raiders are more expensive once you factor in the mandatory squad needed to purchase them, and so on and so forth.

I'm just curious what made you think this?

They fill two different roles. One is a transport that can have a 1 disintegrator or dark lance.

The other is a heavy support option with 1 higher AV and more antitank.

Maybe he confused the ravager for the venom?

That is my guess, out of the Raider and the Ravager? Those two are not comparable.

I'd like to think this, but the way it's worded.. Really don't think he meant anything other than Raider/Ravager.

Sorry. I did mean venom. You can only put 5 guys on a venom

Yep, and MSU was all the rage of 5th ed. Still worth noting in 6th people are de-meching a bit and the Venom gets a ton of poisoned shots if you go that route.

I ran 2 Raiders,5 Venom, 3 Ravager with a bunch of stuff in between before I sold off DE.

Raider carries either an anti-tank gun or a heavy-infantry/MC killer as fire support for the nit it carries.

It can take Aethersails, which a Venom can't, and has a larger cargo capacity. It doesn't come with flickerfields as standard though.

Venoms are a little cheaper, and come with flickerfields as standard. They can also pump obscene numbers of poisoned shots out (good vs light infantry, tough critters, MCs) which raiders have no options for.

They make good transports for small units, like Haywire wyches, where the anti-tank gun isn't really needed, and the extra transport room is a bit of a waste.

Both have a use, but different roles.

You will be hard pressed to find a 5 man transport that can shoot 12 BS 4 shots with 4+ poison at 36" range for 65 points. You would in fact be hard pressed to do it even if it wasn't a transport. People would buy them even as non transportable fast attack choises at 65 points of they could.

Even then, Venom / Ravager isn't really comparable either as they both have different roles.

Taking the post slightly askew but what are peoples opinions on taking Disintegrators on Raiders? I always took DLances in 5th edition and havent actually used the dissy in 6th yet but I think it has more crediibility in 6th.

I still load out my Ravagers with Lances as well as the Razorwing and Trueborn. I also now will only run my Wyches in bare 5 squad with Haywires so if anything my AT is even more potent than before. Having a nice smattering of AP2 shots to dish out seems quite tempting.

Thoughts?

Dissies are severely underrated.

Vs light vehicles they work about as well, and against infantry of all flavours, they're better.

Lances edge out against heavy vehicles and monstrous creatures though.

Personally, I love putting Dissies on raiders, as the 1 lance shot often did absolutely nothing, while the Dissies have been killing things happily.

Razorwing with Lances, Ravagers with Lances (though I've been debating 1 Dissie, 2 Lances), Raiders with Dissies is how I'll be running it.

Yeah my Raiders were usually pretty ineffective with their shooting, maybe getting the odd lucky shot here and there. They dont usually survive very long so putting out weight of fire at AP2 appeals to me far more than a couple of Lance pot shots.

I run a mixture of Raiders and Venoms (3/4 of each) between them all it is a hefty amount of firepower.
