This actually gave me an idea for some of my own terrain that I've been wanting to make. By the way, the foliage looks great. I can hardly tell that its for a fish tank because of how you placed it

man i dont think id ever have the patience for terrain painting, let alone of this caliber. You put my small models to shame, where detail should be easy since there arent any massive open spots to deal with

@Willnaut What sort of terrain project were you thinking of?
@Freytag93 The basic inspiration was partly some awesome WD terrain, but mostly the fact that with a green battlemat to play on, I felt that I needed a way to blend the buildings into the mat, without it being really jarring. Overgrown buildings seemed the way to go! I've a few more projects lined up, including a manufactorum, a landing pad, and a sort of research station / farmhouse. I still have enough aquarium plants to do the necessary merging, and I'd also really like to do a slew of scatter terrain, so the entire table can be jungly.
@Vineheart01 Thanks for the kind words! But all I can say is that you should give it a shot. The GW terrain kits are really forgiving, and full of detail. With a spray-gun and a dry-brush you can get a long way toward a cool result.
And thanks for all of the great comments I hope to have some more updates soon.

I was going to make a ruined Imperial warehouse, and after seeing this I am definitely going to have to pick up some fish tank plants. Also, my friend has some space marines from the Assault on Black Reach that he doesn't want so I think I'm going to use the captain to make a statue like you had.

@Willnaut You could do some really awesome things with plants poking out through rooftops! Also, think about picking up an Arcane Ruins set from GW - the pillars are just right for doing imposing imperial statuery. You can stick just about any old miniature onto the top, paint it grey and call it a statue!

yeah,
Nice work really likeing the overgrown look you have
I did a creeping moss effect on some eldar building by putting down a thick line of pva and pushing clump foilage and static grass from a railway model store.
Although I'm not sure it will match your vegitation I'll throw the idea out there...

Exalted.
Having read this, I broke out an imperial statue from my scatter terrain, discovered to my horror that I only had static grass in my supplies, but went for it anyways. I applied a streamer of meandering white glue up one side, across the plinth, and then up the statue itself. Then I mooshed static grass into the glue trail. This resulted in a rather more flattened out and wide creeper than I wanted.
Pics!
When the white glue had dried enough I went back and retouched and shaped the creepers to make them thinner, (basically, by shoving and prodding at the semi-congealed glue with the end of my drybrushing paintbrush) and then a little later, actually painted in a core of structure with a little Castellan Green.
I will definitely be applying this technique back across the other buildings, as it is both super-easy, and also gives a great effect for the time investment. I like both of these things. This technique really shows promise, and is basically just flocking vertically. The trick is obviously that you need a better blend of flock on hand than I did. I will retouch this when I raid the hobby store.

That is really cool. The work you have put into this deserves much credit.
I really like all the info about the plants, it is very good. I wish I had terrain like this to play over.

The plinth and column are a warhammer base, and a pillar from the Arcane Ruins set. The Astartes on the pillar is the captain from the Black Reach box. The column and the statue are painted with a dark grey undercoat and a quick and dirty drybrush to give it some texture.

Hi, First of your ruin is fabulous I am just getting back into the hobby and thinking about scenery and now having seen this got lots of ideas.
Can I ask you exactly what Textured Plastic Card you used?

@Vicia Check PMs for info about the plastic card.
I finally found some time to work the creepers. Quick picture:
I did pick up some flock, but I think I will stick with static grass with a painted core line, at least to finish this project. Or "finish".
What has been distracting my attention from it, though?
Well, here is a slight teaser of it. I call it "The Shrine of the Bolter"
I'll be starting a plog that will ink all of my terrain and wargaming projects together under the slightly pompous name of "The Ios Crusade" Stay tuned for quickly done projects of slightly questionable quality!
