Cuban Holiday Ham! Slice up an orange and a lime, then shank the ham like a prison snitch. Skewer the orange & lime slices with cinnamon sticks and poke them into the ham. Mix together salt, black pepper, cumin and 2 cans of Coke. Pour 1/4 of it over the ham. Put into the oven at 350, for about an hour, and baste the ham every 15-20 minutes with the remaining Coke mixture. Total prep time: 10 minutes. Cooking time: 1 hour

Ham is a traditional Irish christmas meal, at least my wifes family have routinely have it alongside the turkey. I am also not a fan of roast ham.
Lobster is something else that was very common in my childhood as I grew up next to the sea and my dad had his own creels.
John Dory may be a good idea although I'm not sure if you can get it in the winter.

It has been my experience that recipes involving Coke do not work well with beef.
However, I recommend any kind of cheap roast, and patting it down with thyme, garlic, salt & black pepper. Sit it in a slow cooker with 1/2 cup dry red wine and 2 cups low-salt beef broth for 4 hours.

well a ham is actually a traditional meal for Christmas, predating the turkey by quite some time. back in the day the serving of ham at the holidays was a test of faith. If you weren't a christian chances were you weren't allowed to eat pork, so as a test of faith ham was served and anyone who ate it was proving their faith. quite an interesting story and hey ham is quite good. (if only Jews and Muslims ate pork, then they would have something they agreed upon, then there might be peace in the middle east.)

Beef Wellington is a fantastic meal for special occasions. It can be a bit pricey due to the fillet beef, but one of my local butchers does individual portions that may help to keep cost down, perhaps you'll find something similar available where you live?

I never eat anything in particular. If I could have whatever I wanted, and eat it with my family around the table, I would want something good, like Cheese Blintzes, or Calamari. Or a big bowl of Flank and tendon Pho with green onions and sprouts. I wish I could drink. I'm glad you can order Saporro, Ichiban and Kirin at most bars and restaurants.

Lol, the only reason it's "premium" is because the people who charge ten times what it's worth want people to think that way. At one time lobster was fed to prisoners in Nova Scotia for so long that they rioted.
And back on topic, as has been said, you could always go for just a turkey breast or two. Done the same myself before when it was just the wife, a friend and I. Made a big pile of dressing in a pan and threw the breasts on top. Was delicious!

The wife's family do turkey, ham and other roast meats.
In summer, in 39 degree heat. With no airconditioning. I prefer to spend it at the pub, to be honest. At least the pub has aircon.
I'd rather have a salad and cold cuts - but my family was never big on turkey anyway.

Since you live in the uk (according to flag), get down to Aldi, they do a frozen five-bird-roast, but instead of it being 5 actual birds it's just the meat bits assembled, rolled and tied up with string (like they do with boned and rolled beef/pork/etc) which is plenty for 3 (with a bit left over for cold cuts) and is damn tasty.
Kind of keeps with the festive season as well...
