Played Tyranids in 2nd ed, now i'd like to have some games again. Unfortunately, most of my stuff is now outdated. Well, at least I have an excuse to buy some more plastic kit
Anyway, thinking on starting a new army for scratch, and while I don't like the "one scheme fit all" philosophy that GW actually uses, I think I'll go for something more coherent than 2nd ed Tyr.
Also, time for toy soldiers has drastically reduced from school days, so the idea is to walk the AP Quickshade way.
So what I've opened this thread for?
Paint schemes. Tyranids paint schemes that would work well with Quickshade. If you have one (or some) to suggest, I'll really appreciate it.
I'd like to go to something purple/lila/darkblue, but I feel these aren't colors that match nicely with quickshade...

The purple should actually work fine with the quickshade, as seen here: http://admin.thearmypainter.com/files/galleries/Alien_Purple_1.jpg
That should give you some insight as to how the quickshade will work with that colour (or similar, I suppose).

I hope you kept your old 2nd edition models. When me and my cousin got into 40k together, he went tyranids and I think some of those older models ( particularly th carnifex and hormagaunts) were much cooler looking in the old days. Good luck anyways.

Yes I did. http://gabbigames.wordpress.com/2012/11/27/tiranidi-dipinti/
I am a big fan of the old Screamer Killer, too. Fantastic model. When it first was released I could not believe how awesome it looked ^^ Unfortunately seems that it is quite small, compared to actual Carnifex.
Never been a fan of old Hormagaunts. Nothing wrong with their look, but they were metal, a real pain to keep them standing on the table (to the point I used cavalry bases for some of mine).
Among older Tyr I like more than newer ones are the Biovores, way better than 2nd and 3rd versions...

Yeh, I remember the old falling over hormagaunts. You've got some old genestealer cult too, I see. Nice.

I don't know about Quickshade. But if you're looking for Tyranid colour scheme inspiration have a look through my gallery or my blog. Or even just search for tyranids in the dakka gallery, there's so much to choose from and it's not difficult to take one scheme and swap in different colours (so long as they don't clash).
Good luck.

I was looking for something very quick and simple. for the lesser creatures at lest (40 Termagant for start, probably more in the future ^_^;).

Thanks.
Fair enough, there's nothing quick and simple about what I've been doing.
Good luck with your little monsters.
