Why there are so many 25mm round bases? I'm pretty sure I have more bases than I have minis. Atleast one third of my local gaming store's bitz box are bases. My workspace has bases sprinkled here and there, atleast 3 of my bigger bitz boxes have huge spaces dedicated to bases and I got couple unopened boxes of minis that propably have bases in them (if not I'm going to call gw for missing parts).
Where are all these bases coming from?

Every time I hear "in my opinion" or "just my opinion" makes me want to strangle a puppy. People use their opinions as a shield that other poeple can't critisize and that is bs.
If you can't defend or won't defend your opinion then that "opinion" is bs. Stop trying to tip-toe and defend what you believe in. |

I think you will find that GW kits that use 25mm bases tend to come with extras.
25mm bases come on a sprue of 4. And since most kits have models in groups of 5 or 10 you will always have some extras.

I can understand 1-3 extra bases per box but it seems I could add a base for all my unfinished minis and my finished ones could have another one (and I collect orks).

I had a few kicking around as I bought some laser etched bases from WarMill to base an army with. However, if I hadn't I would have used up all my "spare" bases long ago. I never seem to have enough 25mm, though I have loads of 40mm

They used to come 4 to a sprue, and you'd often get something like 10 men in a box with 12 bases. GW changed the bases not too long ago though, so you're generally only getting as many bases as there are figures. A lot of folks who end up buying secondhand models or custom resin bases end up with heaps of spares though. You'll need them eventually.

I use resin bases for my armies, so I often have lots of leftover bases.

There are male and female bases. If you do not separate them, they get offspring
Actually, as already said, for a long time, GW provided their bases in a sprue of 4. So if you buy a blister with one miniature, you get 4 bases including 3 left overs. Would have costed more to manually remove the excess bases than just give you all four. Nowadays, they produce 25mm bases as singles in plastic bags, so this problem is over (unless you use resin bases and don't use GW's plastic bases).

You can however sex your bases quite easily. Slotta bases are female.

Not quite true. They changed the bases, yes. But they now come in bags of preset amounts. From what I've seen, they're usually bags of 6 or 10. So a lot of sets still wind up with extras if the models aren't in multiples of those numbers.

It's because Fire Warriors come in squads of 12 per box, so you get 12 bases. That leaves everyone else who only gets 10 models or less per box with a bag of 12 bases.

This. It adds up over time. Also, I've been buying 3rd party resin bases, so now I have even more plain bases.

I have quite a few extra bases left over, too. I'm not even entirely sure where they're all coming from, though.
Now I just need to get more legs so I can do some kitbashing and get rid of the twenty power armor torsos I have...

I bought a couple of bags of round bases, for converting Fantasy models over to 40K units.
I like to keep a stock of them for whenever it's needed (second hand models needing new bases and fantasy conversions), so I'll generally have 20-50 25mm bases and 6-12 40mm bases just floating around.
But because of this, I have a surplus of Square bases that I generally don't need, so just sit there....

I have a few bases to spare, but that's because my Heavy Flamer team was sent with 4 bases instead of a 40mm and I got a few of them from the melta/heavy stubber pack.

Didn't know that! Most boxes only come with 10 dudes so I haven't seen much to the contrary.

Not to mention conversions, unbuilt minis, etc, leave extra bases. Automatically Appended Next Post: My problem is how many square bases I have accumulated over time. Ugh.

You're looking for 60mm if you are talking guard (assuming HWT).
