Been a while brothers and sisters, but after a 5 or so year break from GW games I'm back with a Dark Vengeance. And so begins the story of The STD.
Finished models ( updated as army progresses: )

Those look very nice, especially for a dip. My only suggestion would be to paint the rim of the bases, probably with the red (brown?) you used for the trim.

Models look pretty good (especially for a dip), but the whole "STD" theme is just lame and immature... Sorry, bad puns on words like molestation and AIDs just aren't funny.
But don't let my naysaying stop you... to each their own.

Indeed a comment like this was totally expected, however my mates found it very funny. A bit like half men half goats who play football, or green people who spawn from mushrooms and build huge trashcan looking battle robots. In a universe filled with sex-crazed robotic marines who worship a god of drugs and ecstacy, disciples of rage and killing and maiming, sadomasochistic elves who keep their females chained to the decks of their ships and use drugs a little STD shouldn't be a serious issue.

Just thought I would chip in. "STD" is an archaic term like "Brontosaurus" or "Planet Pluto." The more accurate, and medically proper term is "STI," Sexually Transmitted Infection.
Also, none of those other armies mentioned use blue humor, so there really isn't a correlation. Beast men playing football are ridiculous, sure. However, "ridiculous" and "juvenile" are not synonyms.
Nice paint job by the way. Personally I would keep the bases black around the edges, I like it.

I just feel that stuff of that ilk has no place on these boards, but it is not my decision on whether or not to allow it. However, I am glad you and your friends sat around laughing about AIDs, molestation, and vaguely racist mentions of space marines. That pretty cool man, I'm happy you are enjoying the hobby. However, using unrelated examples of questionable content as a means to justify a poorly thought out and juvenile "backstory" is just silly.
Again, I am in no way trying to be rude or tell you that what you are doing is wrong; you put your idea (which is borderline inappropriate) on this forum so I felt like giving you my opinion. Also, judging by the way you defended yourself, I can gather that somewhere in your mind you agree with what I said... Knowing that it was wrong, going on defense was a natural reaction.

The concept itself, while a little silly, can fit a Nurgle army nicely. (Though you could go The VDs instead of The STDs, or maybe The Venereologists to be a little more obscure)
It's also painted reasonably well so far.
HOWEVER - I think you need to be a little subtler with a lot of the names.
Chlamydius is fine, but Herpes and Aid's is just lazy.
Here's a far-from complete list of STIs to get ideas from - try using more obscure names, and be sure to sufficiently warp them.
Do it cleverly and it's almost satirical, do it silly and it's just childish.

LOVE the paintjob, can't stand the fluff. I don't consider anything sacred, when it comes to humor, but I do require a degree of wit lacking in the posted excerpt. Crank up the creativity, stretch those puns, and avoid tired memes - you might end up with a praiseworthy (to those with... more flexible sensibilities, at least) tongue-in-cheek army.
As it stands now, you have a batch of gorgeous models and a workable concept, but they're mired in middle school antics. Some folks will never be swayed, but the more clever and subtle you are, the less room there is for reproach. I'd hate to see a project with this sort of potential get its thread(s) locked, but I also see a very real possibility that it will be more than warranted, should it happen.

There is no fanboy rage here and I don't think there is anyone upset because the OP tried to add "humor" to the hallowed, grimdark setting of 40K. The issue lies with the tired, dim witted puns and the vague racism of the home-brew fluff. Go for tongue-in-cheek, please... it is difficult to do well and when done properly, it can be amazing. How this fluff stands now just screams preteen boys sitting around the lunch room making sex jokes after being inspired by watching an old episode of South Park when they sneaked downstairs after their parents went to bed.

Welcome to the internet. I haven't defended myself, just commented that you're trying to make a little humour about STD's sound so serious and bad while at the same time you're a fan of the game, which includes violence, murder, death, sex, and drugs. Just makes you a bit paradoxal. Besides, I'm fairly sure you laugh at jokes about similiar topics or even worse weekly, if not daily. Like I said, internet. Puns might not be funny to people who natively speak english, for the rest of us they might require a bit more thought to make up and figure out.
Homebrewn fluff can never be taken seriously, and the more serious one tries to make it the more it usually just makes people laugh. I choose another path. The path of Badgro Inrash.

Yes, I have a good laugh at joke about my great uncle dying at Auschwitz (He fell out the guard tower) and dead baby comedy etc.
But none of these things have a place in 40k. Take it to Sickipedia.

I have to say I'm getting real sick of the "this doesn't fit in 40K, it has no place, rabblerabblerabble" line
Let’s face it, anyone who makes these armies is fully aware that such a thing will not and does not exist in 40K and they are just doing it for a laugh, nothing more. Mostly because 40K is so farfetched it's hard not to poke fun at it every now and then and also because fluff isn’t a big deal to them seeing as it's, you know, a game. Commenting "that’s not part of 40K, that has no place, tsk tsk what childish humour" and so on really isn’t contributing to the thread what so ever so if you could all keep it to yourselves that would be great. If the OP wants to make STD and meme jokes then let him

Uh... You compare your made-up fluff with GW's, but tbh while GW has many ridiculous aspects in its setting, it's done in a muchmore subtle way (and that's saying something!).
As others have said, this theme would actually work if done in a satirical way. But this is just a lame parody.
Also, whats up with the "Black" Templars? You and your mates should grow up.
Your paintjob seems pretty nice though and I'm actually interested in how will you deal with the Hellbrute. Shame it goes all to waste with such a bad fluff.

I dunno, a wolf man riding a bigger wolf in an army of mutant wolves who also fight alongside wolves while using wolf weapons?, I would say the two are about level :'3
that being said I don't think there's anything else as brash as the OP's fluff from the rest of the 40K line.

I do marketing and graphic design for work, and I know even negative publicity is publicity. So I don't mind a few flower hatted grandmas going so crazy about something I did in 5 minutes as a joke to go with the army.
Someones personal issues regarding what is wrong in the world are also none of my concern. What I love is the age/grow up remarks though, its the most straightforward way to try and get under someones skin. Next to you being wrong, and having no idea what I am like as a person ( I feel pretty mature when reading some of the comments in this thread actually, mostly the ones made by these age-remark-people ) it will never work on me. So try something else boys & girls.
All I can say is internet again. How did this even turn into a discussion. Hahahah!
Cheers for the people who dig and those who don't, I dunno, leave or something.

Indeed, I'm intending to do this army in a stress free way purely for fun, so efficiency, speed, and acceptable results are key. Here are some miniatures I've painted more time consumingly:
